to think that Ocado should offer me something different?

Just started using Ocado, after many good recommendations from MN! Love it so far, except one thing. After my first order they offered me a free bottle of wine with my next shop. We took the offer, even though we don't drink alcohol, with the intention of passing it on to a friend. They've done the same this time, a free bottle of wine. I've also noticed alot of the meal 'bundles' come with an alcoholic drink.

I feel like we're excluded from alot of the deals Ocado offer because we don't drink alcohol. I've spoken to their customer services who tell me that we "don't have to take them up on the offer" and that "there isn't a non-alcoholic substitution". AIBU to think this is a bit unfair, and perhaps even discriminatory? Expecially against people who's religion dictates that they shouldn't drink alcohol?

Well I would love oyster bay - I got a free fairy tablet for the washing machine. Does seem a little unfair!

OcadoAnnie · 19/04/2010 14:56

BattyKoda - Hi there, Annie from Ocado here. I agree that wine should not necessarily be a standard free gift, and am sorry that you're not able to make use of your free bottles. The system that generates the gifts is automated, but I have contacted the department in charge of this, and I believe this is definitely something that we can look into changing (also the ham issue).

Thanks for highlighting it! We can only improve things when customers say what can be better, so thank you.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 19/04/2010 14:58

Can I get sent the code instead Annie?

BattyKoda · 19/04/2010 15:01

Thanks OcadoAnnie! Don't get me wrong, my friends are very grateful, would just be nice if there was something for me . It would be handy to be able to substitute gifts/offers if they aren't suitable.

Free wine is always good wine IMO.

pigsinmud · 19/04/2010 15:46

Whatever you do don't get Ocado on Demand - all free gifts stop then!

MrsJohnDeere · 19/04/2010 16:01

Wish I got free wine with my orders.

Best I've ever had is a small things of chocolates. Usually it is a small sample of some baby food or other that goes stright into the bin.

OcadoAnnie - please could you ask the packers not to try and fit too many items into each carrier bag. I'm getting a lot broken and damaged stuff lately because of this. I know it gets refunded but it is really annoying.

Oenopod · 19/04/2010 16:11

Schilke! Is that true about Ocado on Demand? I just signed up to get the 15% discount - I think I might be able to cancel still.

I suppose you still get the 'free' delivery but I don't always need a delivery every week, so maybe I'd be better off waiting for the 20% offers they tempt you with if you havn't ordered for a couple of weeks...

pigsinmud · 19/04/2010 16:16

I took up their Try Ocado on demand free for 2 weeks and forgot to cancel before the end of the 2 weeks. Then realised I had to take it out for a year! I have to pay £9.99 each month and since taking it up I've not got any free gifts (apart from the Oh You've been shopping with us for 5 years bottle of wine) and you get no lovely discount codes.

I use it for one small delivery each week, but I could easily do without that and pop into town. I used to alternate between Ocado and Sainsburys, now I tend to do one big Sainsburys each week and a £40 Ocado later in the week. I have 4 dc and we get through loads of food.

If you don't use it much I wouldn't go for Ocado on Demand.

Oenopod · 19/04/2010 16:55

OK - I just checked - I have to cancel before lunchtime tomorrow... or I'm signed up for a year.

I signed up for the discount, and then was thinking it would be quite nice not to ever have to go into a supermarket again...

But is it worth it? I've never got free gifts before but they did send 15 or 20% off vouchers every couple of weeks to tempt me (have to spend min £85 though)

Anyone else with Ocado on Demand stories?

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 19/04/2010 17:00

I still get sent money off emails, they don't send vouchers though. The money off emails are normally things that I have brought before if this makes sense.

Ledodgy · 19/04/2010 17:03

I also did the 2 week trial with ocado demand. They sent me an email today (the 19th) to say if I want to cancel I must do so before 19th which is the last day of my trial. I have cancelled today and they had best not charge me or there will be trouble.

MrsJohnDeere · 19/04/2010 17:08

I have Ocado on Demand because I forgot to cancel the trial (twice ). The first time I pleaded ignorance, post-pregnancy hormones etc and they let me off. The second time not. I didn'tlike the way it was imposed on me and the onus was on me to cancel.

Tbh I use it because it is there but I wouldn't want to renew. I was always able to get a free delivery slot and often had money off vouchers too, so I'm definitely worse off with it. Was very annoying to be charged for Christmas delivery too.

Ledodgy · 19/04/2010 17:11

The 2 week free trial bit is bollocks as well because I signed up with a voucher and it didn't start on the shop I signed it up with though the two weeks did. I didn't shop at ocado the next week so got F all free and if I had done a shop with them for the second week that would have only been one week free until it expired today.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 19/04/2010 17:12

I didn't manage to get a christmas delivery so....... I had the last one availiable on the free delivery slots, ordered all the veg/cakes/stuff that wouldn't go off until after christmas and waited until christmas eve, went to M&S and brought a half price three bird roast!

MumFromMumAndDad · 19/04/2010 17:49

I read this thread earlier this afternoon, thinking, Why do I never get free wine? And guess what - Ocado have just given me a free (half) bottle of wine!

Whilst I love a nice glass of wine, I DO NOT like Chardonnay, so I'm off to ring customer services because they are discriminating against people who only drink nice wine.

Doodleydoo · 19/04/2010 17:54

I'm on ocado on demand, and yes I love it because I loathe the supermarkets near us, and the nearest ones are 20 mins away so it does make sense and it does get used.

However I never get anything free - oh apart from the lovely dishwasher tablet......... and it does kind of nark me that as a loyal customer (2 x £50+ per week start and end of week) I get bog all.

The other thing - sorry OcadoAnnie - is that I always order Kingsmill everyday bread because we don't use that much and when we do use it we like it to be "freshish" (ok bound to be filled with loads of chemicals I know but useful all the same!) all the time I get delivered the bread that is best before the day after delivery (usually I get an evening delivery) so when I get it it is a little "stale" already. I know this because I made the effort to go to waitrose the other day and didn't look at the label on the bread but that was friday and this morning it was still soft and squishy whereas the ocado bread never is.

Right rant over. Off to have a look and see if there is anything else that suits me for my next delivery!

P.S Can we have some better deals on ALL nappies, sometimes there are good ones on Regular Pampers but would like to see them on pull ups and active fit too like through other supermarkets.

glastocat · 19/04/2010 17:58

God I can't believe anyone would complain about free wine! If you don't want it give it to meeeeee!

Doodleydoo · 19/04/2010 18:01

But can we complain about not getting free wine

Oenopod · 19/04/2010 18:04

I suppose you have to weigh up never having to set foot in a supermarket again with no free gifts. Though i did actually get an Ariel tablet (just one mind). I've now got one batch of clothes that smell 'different' and it confuses me...

I also live in the middle of nowhere and the time I save by going online is precious. I hate driving into town 'just' to get milk and a few bits and pieces.

Maybe I will give it a go for the year.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 19/04/2010 18:08

You don't get free gifts when you go to the supermarket anyway!! Tesco etc don't give free gifts either, you lot just can't be pleased!!

mangoandlime · 19/04/2010 18:10

Doodleydo, isn't most bread BBF dated a day or two later? It's the use by date you want to look out for. So best before 21st April but Use By 24th. You'd be hard pushed to get better best before dates on bread.

And free wine....? There's just no pleasing some folk!

Oenopod · 19/04/2010 18:22

But I've never had free wine! Though I'm picky about my wine so I'd probably join MumfromMumandDad and complain about anything they did send

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 19/04/2010 18:25

It depends on how long you've been with them, I recieve a voucher for a free bottle every year in October as this is when I first joined, it's a sort of "yay, you've been with us a year, have a hangover on us" type thing.

June2009 · 19/04/2010 18:27

we had wine tw weeks in a row, next it was free ham (same as the one we ordered the week before), and the one is smoked salmon, same as the one we ordered last week.
we dont drink either, use the wine in some cooking (goes well with fish for example.)
