??? What is this all about? Especially as it means that they cannot climb and play unless they want to look like mermaids!

How do skinny jeans go over nappies? How odd.

damnedchilblains · 05/04/2010 13:50

my dd wore skinny jeans at 18 months. I bought from next when she was still in a nappy and she could climb and play was always hyperactive and never looked like a mermid.

What is your problem YABU!

livviloo · 05/04/2010 13:52

oh I forgot to add . Girls jeans on a boy.

My DS wears skinny jeans and leggings, though he is out of nappies, and I think he looks lovely in them. They are very stretchy, and don't impede him in any way

livviloo · 05/04/2010 13:55

To kaloki with difficulty hence the mermaid legs!
I have had to let my nephew play in his PJs all day!

I think that "fashion" items can look a bit tacky on babies. I prefer them in more traditional-looking baby clothes.

remotecontroller · 05/04/2010 14:01

My DS wears skinny jeans because he is skinny and looks ridiculous in those flapping clown shaped trousers that seem to be the favoured cut of the high street baby clothes. He can climb and play fine thanks. What I don't get is those stripey Tombliboo-style organic cotton playsuits - you must have to wash them every 5 minutes.

I am a bit tacky. Thanks.

LOs in skinny jeans give me the heebie-jeebies. Same as LOs in heels/knee-high boots/mini-skirts. I'm sure I'll get flamed for this but if you dress your LO in clothes geared towards teenaged girls, you risk courting unwanted attention.

Or maybe I'm just old-fashioned.

livviloo · 05/04/2010 14:07

Its not the fashion thing. Every item of clothing available submits to someone's taste in fashion and it certainly wouldn't be my right to judge anyone.
Maybe they are just too small for him, his legs are too fat for the style or a girl cut just doesn't sit well on a boy who has more "bulk" up front especially when the nappy is full!
My SIL tells me there is no shop at all that does a skinny enough boys jean so I'm guessing all of you with jeans from other stores must have your kids in a "looser" variety!
This child is unable to part his legs from the knees up!

"Fashion" on babies makes most of them look like chavettes, tbh. The child isn't your accessory, it is a real person!

whippybamboo · 05/04/2010 14:11

I don't like skinny jeans on LO's. I would rather my DS was comfy and had room to move. Fashion items are more for the parent anyway not for the child.

traceybath · 05/04/2010 14:12

DD is 8 months and wears white trousers that are slim fitting but uber stretchy - she can crawl and play in them.

And she most certainly does not look like a 'chavette' - hardly when teamed with a liberty lawn smock top.

PrammyMammy · 05/04/2010 14:15

My niece had some skinny jeans when she was in nappies, she seemed to deal with them fine, they were quite soft denim, like jeggings type. BUT i don't really like kiddies in adult/teen clothings. I have a dd of my own now, and find it so hard finding nice traditional baby clothes for her.

pigletmania · 05/04/2010 14:21

I dont know undecided, imo skinny jeans on a toddler/child ok, if the rest of the clothes are 'childrens clothes' iyswim, if they are teamed with tight t shirts especially the logod variety, crop tops and heels and make up than than it is a bit inappropriate. My dd has just turned 3, I went to ASDA and go her a lovely ITNG outfit so cute, but wondered whether i was dressing her a bit babyish, but hey she is still little and she loves ITNG so there you go.

livviloo · 05/04/2010 14:46

These are not soft denim. They are of the thick, like adult denim, variety. Not jeggings (although that too would be odd on a boy maybe ok with a tunic dress on top on a girl)
Anyhow thank you for letting me get it off my chest!
Just need a secret stash of trews here so when we take him out I don't feel bad about his difficulty on the play equipment.

Hmm, I think I agree with you but what really bugs me are the people who put little girls in pretty frilly dresses when they're at a messy play group, for example.

I know someone who always dresses their one year old in dresses and takes her to a messy play group and tries to keep her away from the messy things . She also takes her to a group that is a bit like Tumble tots and I feel sorry for the child trying to climb etc in skirts and dresses. I always think FGS let her be a child!

I've yet to see skinny jeans on a baby - will keep my eyes peeled though!

livviloo · 05/04/2010 15:27

H&M sell them in the girls section if you are looking!

But, unless you live in Mao's China, all clothes are 'fashion' - they are all an expression of your personal tastes and the tastes of the group you hang it with or aspire to belong to. It's pretty disingenuous to say 'children should dress like children' and I don't like 'fashion' on children - what your children dress like is totally an expression of you...you pay for the clothes and choose what they where. If clothes don't fit or restrict movement or are dangerously impractical then that is a different issue.

Skinny jeans are hardly arseless bejewelled PVC chaps.

remotecontroller · 05/04/2010 15:35

WEAR

remotecontroller · 05/04/2010 15:36

Move to Camden, lovechoc

Longtalljosie · 05/04/2010 15:36

If I had my way, all my 8 month old DD would wear would be leggings / dungarees and long-sleeved cotton tops. But like most first time mums, 90% of her wardrobe is gifts! Mind you, the dresses don't often see the light of day - usually only when visiting the giver...
