To think that freebleeding is a bit [envy]

I have just heard of freebleeding on here whereby no sanitary protection is used . I admit that i am open to most things but this The practicalities of it must be enormous you would never leave home. I know that it would not be for me as my periods are quite heavy, even with big sanitary pads I manage to leak over my trousers, on my legs. Once when i was out i leaked through my jeans, as i got off the bus i realised must have been on the seat aswell, imagine no sanitary protection.

How does someone manage outside the house where there is limited washing facilities, must be really uncomfortable and and messy. I will probably get flamed for my views but i am prepared and armed with my hard hat. I would try reusuable sanitary protection for later on in my period but no protection

um, why? what would be the point, and why would you want to advertise that time of the month anyway?

(related: after haqving started periods again after nearly 2 years pg/bf related absence - bliss - i want a mooncup. where is the best place to get them?)

onebatmother · 04/04/2010 19:39

But... WHY?

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 04/04/2010 19:39

Urgh.

pigletmania · 04/04/2010 19:40

Bertie how can someone who freebleeds have light periods . Anyway even with light periods its still to have it all over your underwear and trousers/skirt and down your leg. I would not mind a mooncup with an aplicator to help it inside or reusuable SP for later on in my period but none

i would have hoped she had a matteress protector but dp didn't have that much info, don't think she was a close friend, and she def isn't now.

To be honest when i did have periods (on injection so haven't had one for over a year ) i would bled on day one, nothing on day two and day three carrying on, day four barely anything, so in theory i could have free bled, but i have always worn something, as i am tooooo paranoid

onebatmother · 04/04/2010 19:41

And roffle roffle roffle at the word "freebleeding". A whole world of look-at-me micro-activism, right there.

pigletmania · 04/04/2010 19:42

JoeyB you are lucky, mine is dreadful, and at night its even worse, even with a coupld of pads on i wake up iwth soaking pJs and pants and down my leg if i did not use any protection

OP posts:
going · 04/04/2010 19:46

I only wear protection at night for the first night as I don't bleed over night. Don't consider it freebleeding as I don't actually bleed. WOuldn't do it if I ended up with blood on my thighs!

going · 04/04/2010 19:47

I feel I should add I do wear protection during the day!

JoeyBettany · 04/04/2010 19:53

I wouldn't doit if the sheets were going tolook like a butcher's shop I must admit.

Mind you, sometimes I wish I had heavier, more draining periods. All that looking after yourself, nice hot water bottles and snuggly fleece pjs and a comforting hot drink with a couple of paracetamol...

SpeedyGonzalez · 04/04/2010 20:00

By they way, I'm impressed by how many people on this thread have read The Red Tent - that's about 3 of us so far!

And I also remember my mum offering me sanitary belts - think I managed to avoid them by surreptitiously going out and buying tampons and sticky-backed towels instead.

BitOfFun · 04/04/2010 20:01

Why would a mooncup need an applicator? I didn't understand that bit.

I never used to bother with anything when I had my mirena, because it really was very light. Periods back witha vengeance now though, but the mooncup is excellent at minimising the hassle and inconvenience.

Mooncupflowethover · 04/04/2010 20:02

Just asked DH if it was OK if I freebled. He said 'I don't know what it is but you're not doing it'!!

Seriously though, what next free snotting? No I don't need a tissue thanks. Yes I know it's dribbling across my lips and off my chin, it's fine, all natural.

Actually, my 2 DS's are advocates of free snotting.

Rosebud05 · 04/04/2010 20:02

What's the underlying philosophy of freebleeding? Is it environmental, feminist, anti-consumerist? Or simply post-modern?

DH just read this thread over my shoulder and fistly barfed then said "is this an April Fools joke?" That'll learn him........

SpeedyGonzalez · 04/04/2010 20:03

catas - I got my mooncup from Boots online. Think it cost around £20, but then I'd have spent that much on tampons, etc within 6 months, if not less.

Joey - as someone who's had 'heavier, more draining periods' for most of her adult likr, I can assure you there's nothing to envy! I remember at their worst I actually contemplated booking myself in for a blood transfusion. Now that I've had my plumbing sorted out I will always appreciate my newfound lighter flow!

MisSalLaneous · 04/04/2010 20:05

at free snotting!!!

OP, I was a bit confused for a moment when I saw the title - thought I completely misunderstood you on the other thread and that you'd actually like it!

pigletmania · 04/04/2010 20:05

No no April Fools joke just type in free bleeding. I would need an aplicator BitOfFun as I would not know how far to push it and i am not keen on putting my hand up my fanjo, just me really.

BitOfFun · 04/04/2010 20:06

The blog I read about it a few months ago didn't seem to have a philosophy. I think she was just a bit of a slattern, tbh.

pigletmania · 04/04/2010 20:07

No MisSal it was meant to be the envy sign of the green face signifying yuck!

OP posts:
BitOfFun · 04/04/2010 20:07

I think the point of the mooncup is to get you more in touch with your own body really though. Honestly, it is fine.

MisSalLaneous · 04/04/2010 20:07

blog thing re free bleeding

BitOfFun · 04/04/2010 20:08

Plus, an applicator couldn't work really, as how far in it needs to be will vary person to person, so it couldn't be done for you, iyswim?

allegrageller · 04/04/2010 20:10

I really cnan't understand how it is in any way liberating to bleed all over yourself, clothing, bedding and presumably floors. Got nothing against menstrual blood, but omg the stains! And the cleaning! forget it.

hmm sitting on straw all day sounds quite good though...I remember the Red Tent very well, loved it.

Alouiseg · 04/04/2010 20:10

Good job men don't wander around "freesperming" ;-)

BertieBotts · 04/04/2010 20:11

I think people are possibly misunderstanding a bit - I don't think the idea is to jump around smearing your blood everywhere saying "HEY LOOK I AM BLEEEEDING!" (And if they were, OK, that would be strange and quite inconsiderate!)

I think it's more that you just keep cleaning it up as and when and don't worry if it gets on your clothes or sheets or whatever. I said about light periods because I don't think it would be possible or pleasant to do if you had heavy periods. (So I took the title of the thread to mean ooh, I am envious of her, I wish I could get away with using nothing on my period)

I don't see why everyone is getting so judgy about it! Fair enough to be bemused by it, but there is nothing wrong with it, I'm sure "freebleeders" wouldn't bleed all over someone else's chairs or sheets or train seats or whatever.
