Cats grrr

Right terribly sorry for trying to hijack the other thread.
A cat up the road from us thinks it owns the street .
It scares away any other cat that lives nearby, and keeps jumping all over our car scratching it all over, and shiting in my garden which i have to clean up cos i have kids, its disgusting why the hell should have to put up with this, its caused a lot of damage which we should not have to pay for. What the hell do i do. Grrrr

I agree - cats are pointless pets imo. The majority of them are put outside to wander the streets, shit in other people's gardens, kill birds and small mammals, and damage property. Cat owners have no idea what their pets are up to in the main - drives me mad, having just weeded my garden and come across more cat shite than weeds.

MyMamaToldMe · 19/03/2010 11:41

I think all you can do is chase it away each time you see it and hopefully after a while it will have got the hint and won't come back. I believe orange peel is a natural cat repellent if you want to try that in your garden?

Tiredmumno1 · 19/03/2010 11:45

I may give the orange peel a go. I still think the owners should pay for the damage, hubby had to chase it off our car this morning, and i am forever doing that, but it still comes back

Get a water soaker and soak it whenever you see it or put a cat scarer in the garden?

Are you sure it's the cat scratching your car?

WkdSM · 19/03/2010 11:46

We have just moved and our old neighbours have said they are missing my cat because she kept the mouse / rodent problem down (lived on edge of village with pheasants etc in the woods and rabbits - lots of small wildlife!!)

If the cat is upsetting you that much, I would keep a water gun / bowl of water by the door and either shoot it with the water gun or throw the water at it. There are also various 'anticat' devices you can buy - plants, sensors etc.

Cats are very clever and willl soon learn to avoid your garden

Re the car - you need to be able to prove it ws this cat - photos of cat on car maybe? - you can then approach the woners as they may have a clause in their home insurance to cover pet damage / 3rd liability.

Another thing - some of the excrement may be foxes as they are becoming more prevalent in towns, especially after a hard winter.

Tiredmumno1 · 19/03/2010 11:51

Ta for the link, and yes it is that cat i have seen it doing it, but my first reaction is to chase it off. Will get pics next time just to prove to them, and i have never caught any other cat near here, as i said this cat dont like the other cats hanging around. And i am sure its cat poo i have caught it doing that too, foxes would not be able to get in. Its just gross and makes everything stink

I bloody hate cats. The other day I left my double buggy outside at my mums (it doesn't fit through her door) and her neighbours cat peed on it. Seriously all over my buggy. It was absolutely stinking. Even despite washing it all down three times, putting the cosyotes in the machine twice, washing all the hard bits with bleach and spraying it with frebreeze my buggy still smells awful and stinks my house out.

I tell you, that cat better watch when crossing the road in future....

SilveryMoon · 19/03/2010 11:58

Moth balls are a better repellent than orange peel. The orange peel will only work while it smells of orange.
My dad put moth balls in his plant beds and the cats won't go near them.
I use them in the house for my cats. They like to get behind the washing machine, but there is a big hole in the floor there so I've put moth balls down which have kept them away.

TheCatAteMyGymsuit · 19/03/2010 11:59

yabu

"I tell you, that cat better watch when crossing the road in future.... "

what an unpleasant post.

SilveryMoon · 19/03/2010 12:06

lynn get a bowl of warm water, put some washing up liquid in it and a couple of spoons of bicarbonate of soda and that'll remove the smell.

I'm sure the cat didn't pee on your push chair just to piss you off

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 19/03/2010 12:10

If people wouldn't stick their cats out all day long then they wouldn't get run over when they run out in front of cars though, would they? I'm sure that Lynne has no itention of purposely running over an animal, tempting though it may be.

A woman in our neighbourhood posted 3000 leaflets through every single door in the area after her cat was run over - apparently, we all need to watch our speed . Erm, no - you need to accept that a cat will run in front of a car, keep it inside or get a hamster.

displayuntilbestbefore · 19/03/2010 12:13

Try these lion urine pellets

ExplodingBananas · 19/03/2010 12:23

I should stop clicking on cat threads, I can't beleive how negative people are about them. Why are they any different from wild animals coming into gardens etc, I don't like cleaning bird poo off my windows but I share this planet with them and want clean windows so I do it.

Why are your wishes as a human so much more important than the rights of animals?

Northernlurker · 19/03/2010 12:27

Oh it's another lovely tiredmumno1 thread. Seriously woman - is there anything or anybody you do get on with?

TheCatAteMyGymsuit · 19/03/2010 12:30

Me too Bananas, I can't fathom the depths of hatred towards animals on this thread. Some people are taking things alarmingly personally.

I mean, I don't especially love dogshit in my local park but I still love dogs, and don't think they should all be run over (for example).
These are people's much-loved pets.

Tiredmumno1 · 19/03/2010 12:31

Oh shut up northern and go back to your sheep, if you dont wanna read my posts then DONT, but in my eyes its criminal damage, if i keyed your car its the same thing bloody damaged.

OP posts:
Tiredmumno1 · 19/03/2010 12:34

Why are my rights anymore important, hmm of course they are we pay hard earned money for our stuff, i do not expect a vermin dirty cat to ruin it. And btw a cat aint human, its an animal

OP posts:
Clarissimo · 19/03/2010 12:36

Criminal damage? P

Tiredmumno1 · 19/03/2010 12:41

I never said i would run one over, that was someone else

OP posts:
Northernlurker · 19/03/2010 12:42

Eh? Sheep? NO idea what you're groping towards there.

But regarding damage - you keying my car would be intentional and criminal. Cats doing what cats do isn't either of those things.

shakingmyfattybumbum · 19/03/2010 12:44

I hate cats too - well actually I didn't but my neighbour acquired FIVE in the last couple of years (despite living in a small council house with a paved garden). Guess where they were coming to shit? Oh yes, our newly laid lawn. We sprayed them with a hose so my neighbour called me for everything and now the whole family refuse to speak to us... Mind you, the cats learned very quickly and no longer shit in our garden.

I deffo recommend the water thing (btw I rang the RSPCA after our neighbour swore at me and the man on the phone said it was absolutely fine to spray them). If I see them considering entering our garden I narrow my eyes at them, stare and hiss and they run a mile. I am the big cat round here! So do spray them - it'll make you feel better too.

In answer to all you cat lovers, I would not recommend ever hurting an animal but the attitude of 'my cat comes before your nedds as a human' is seriously irritating. No one NEEDS a cat and it is very very unfair to ask other non-animal lovers to have to clean up YOUR cat's shit just so that our gardens are safe for our kids to play in. (Also I was pregnant last year at the height of the cat wars and my son has eczema so cat shit quite dangerous for us too).

Cats - grrrrr!

Tiredmumno1 · 19/03/2010 12:44

Exactly so if someone harms a cat on purpose they need to get in trouble, the same as a cat harming my car someone needs to answerable to that, especially as the owners are barely there, ane the cat roams the street constantly. Makes you wonder why they have it

OP posts:
TheCatAteMyGymsuit · 19/03/2010 12:44

Well said Clarissimo, I too would do what I could if somebody approached me in a civilised manner to discuss any issues with my cat.
However, referring to a 'vermin dirty cat' [sic] and bleating about criminal courts probably wouldn't cut the mustard.

displayuntilbestbefore · 19/03/2010 12:45

It's not an animal hating thread IMO. It's an animalshit hating thread.
If someone lets their dog defecate and doesn't clear it away then they are liable for a fine, but for some reason, cat owners can let their cats roam free and not bother about where they do their business. How is being angry at that the same as being an animal hater?
As someone who doesn't own a cat, I get angry at having my garden covered in catpoo.
If there's something we can do to stop them doing it then what's wrong with that? No-one is advocating shot guns FGS, just measures to minimise the amount of catshit we have to clear away before we can even let our DCs play in their own garden.
I've seen loads of similar threads and don't see anything wrong with offering tips to keep cats out of your garden.
Accusing posters of being capable of animal cruelty is being OTT.

Clarissimo · 19/03/2010 12:45

Yes tiored soory I should have put other psoters anme in tehre, you certainly did not say that
