Right terribly sorry for trying to hijack the other thread.
A cat up the road from us thinks it owns the street .
It scares away any other cat that lives nearby, and keeps jumping all over our car scratching it all over, and shiting in my garden which i have to clean up cos i have kids, its disgusting why the hell should have to put up with this, its caused a lot of damage which we should not have to pay for. What the hell do i do. Grrrr

Yes posh you should if all they do is cause hassle, as i said before they do cat leads. And clarissimo thats the problem you say that but you dont really know what they are up to, but this particular cat is a fecking pain its out day and night. And the other half is seriously miffed bout the car damaged, as he had it resprayed already, but it is now damaged AGAIN. Why should we keep paying out for something that has been done by somebody elses pet?

Wow, it's CatGate.

I think we are all prob agreed that nobody likes shit, cat, dog or toddler?

For the record, one of my cats barely goes out (old, lazy, 3 legs after being struck by a car, no doubt my fault?), but he will go in the garden and then make a point of coming in to use his litter tray.
The other is a rehomed stray and I couldn't keep him in, he would howl at the moon and spray all over the house (despite being neutered). It would be cruel to do so.

And cats do catch birds, true, it's their instinct. They also catch mice and other (so-called) vermin. We can't judge them by human standards - they are animals. Albeit beautiful ones, and anyone who disagrees with that fact is simply barking.
But how sad to think of a world without cats! I may start catsnet .

ImSoNotTelling · 19/03/2010 14:45

So old women who are too doddery to walk a dog, and have a cat as their sole companian, are stupid, lazy and cruel.

Well fuck me what a nasty nasty attitude.

TheSugarPlumFairy · 19/03/2010 14:47

haven't read the whole thread. Am an animal lover myself. Cats, dogs, the whole nine yards. Cats are territorial though and will try to scare off other cats in the neighborhood. Especially if they are unneutered toms.

Never heard of a cat scratching a car though. Worst i have ever seen are delicate paw prints all over the windscreen and bonnet. annoying but not likely to damage the car.

I can totally recommend the lion urine pellets/spray through. The scent of an even bigger predator in the area will keep them off your property.

poshwellies · 19/03/2010 14:48

You can buy car protectors.

Don't think a domestic moggy will take to kindly to a nice walk around the park amid all the local dogs.

The only cat I've seen going for walks was a siamese but they are very doglike in character.

Tiredmumno1 · 19/03/2010 14:49

Who the hell put down old people did i miss that? Although maybe they would be better with a gerbil as old people would still have to clean after cats, which must be gruelling. And yes cats are lovely to look at.

ooh I once saw a seagull (in tesco car park in Aviemore) sliding down someones windscreen like it was a playpark game and it scratched the bonnet, I've been wary of seagulls since I do admit.

But they don't have retractable claws. never seen a cat do damage either, agree with TheSugarPlumfairy on that.

Clarissimo · 19/03/2010 14:53

Loads of reasons people prefer cats

many a rented house as a basic allows cats not dogs, and from there we get to us witht he SN kids benefit from pets but not allowed dogs (or gerbils) thing

DH much prefers dogs but we can't so its that easy; I alwys had both, I care not

poshwellies · 19/03/2010 14:55

Tiredmumno1's neighbourhood cat

Tiredmumno1 · 19/03/2010 14:57

Claire i have seen it with my own eyes, and hubby saw it do it again this morning it tried jumping up the side, and as it did so it left scratches behind.

FFS. These 'I hate cats' threads appear on MN every few months and everyone gets their knickers in a twist. I remember one from ages ago when a posters husband put down poison because a cat was shitting in their garden. Or the one where someone advocated kicking a football at a cat 'trespassing' in their garden. They really seem to bring the worst out in people! Cats are always going to be around, wandering the streets and shitting in other people's gardens. Get over it. There are people out there who really hate cats. Get over it.

Tiredmumno1 · 19/03/2010 15:01

Ahh now peggotty, did i say once i hated cat or ever used violence against one. No i didnt

ClaireDeLoon · 19/03/2010 15:05

Tiredmum I don't doubt a cat jumped on your car and that your car has scratches, but seriously I think it would be a seagull that did the damage. Hopefully the number of cats in your area will increase and the seagulls will stay away as a result.

Mishy1234 · 19/03/2010 16:23

I'm not going to comment about my feelings re: cats and their shit in my garden, but I do have experience of scratches on my car.

I discovered some nasty scratches on the bonnet during some very cold weather. Basically, it looked like an animal had jumped up and lost it's balance on the ice, causing the nasty scratches.

So...I went next door to ask them if their cats go onto our car (I had never seen them, but lets face it they do sometimes do it for warmth) and they thought not. I didn't cause an argument, but was fuming inside.

Anyway, the next day DH came through the front gate only to come face to face with the neighbourhood fox who apparently has a regular circuit which includes jumping over the fence onto our car bonnet! Now we park our car much further back down the drive so he has clear access.

Just wanted to point out it wasn't the neighbours cats, although it was easy to blame them. I did go round and apologise btw.

Anna99 · 19/03/2010 16:23

"Why are my rights anymore important, hmm of course they are we pay hard earned money for our stuff, i do not expect a vermin dirty cat to ruin it. And btw a cat aint human, its an animal"

Ahh, because humans have money they are more important than animals.

darkandstormy · 19/03/2010 16:55

cats are fantastic imo as are dogs and all animals .Those who get a bit precious regarding scratches on a car a lump of metal ffs, need to get a life. Now there, is the real nuisance in our society bloody cars, far more lethal than a spot of cat shit. So cat haters all go and brasso your bonnets, as I am sure it will be the highlight of your day.

ilovepiccolina · 19/03/2010 16:58

Water guns are supposed to be effective and humane. And satisfying

MorrisZapp · 19/03/2010 17:00

Cats are lovely. Stop moaning.

Tiredmumno1 · 19/03/2010 17:08

Erm cars cost a lot more money than a cat, so just to those of you who think its ok for your animal to damage our car need to get real as they are causing expense to others so stand up and take responsbility, what if someone proved to you that they damaged their vehicle, would you pay for it? They are not my bloody responsibility so i dont expect it to go on our belongings, funny thing is, it doesnt go on their car, just everybody elses. Next you will be telling me to buy a shitheap just to please cats!

OP posts:
gerontius · 19/03/2010 17:08

I like cats but can't quite reconcile that with having a pet that spends its days without you knowing where it is, often pooing in other people's gardens.

Tiredmumno1 · 19/03/2010 17:10

And a few of you are asking what makes us more important than cats. How about you answer why you think cats are more important than humans then?

OP posts:
darkandstormy · 19/03/2010 17:15

tiredmum.why don't you get a shitheap, then you won't have to worry,or are you one of those sad cases who defines themselves by the car they drive?

Northernlurker · 19/03/2010 17:23

Tiredmum - we are talking cats here not tigers! I bet you can't even see the scratches unless you are absurdly close.
