Right terribly sorry for trying to hijack the other thread.
A cat up the road from us thinks it owns the street .
It scares away any other cat that lives nearby, and keeps jumping all over our car scratching it all over, and shiting in my garden which i have to clean up cos i have kids, its disgusting why the hell should have to put up with this, its caused a lot of damage which we should not have to pay for. What the hell do i do. Grrrr

Darkandstormy - no i am not, but i like to keep my things nice, and i cant believe you obviously find damaging someones things is ok, whether it be a cat or human i am just sick of it, its been going on for months. And as i said before this particular cat is always out day and night, maybe they should look after it better. Actually may call the rspca in case its being neglected

Tiredmumno1 - await with a camera for evidence and then approach the pet owner.

Failing that use a water spray - the cat is unlikely then to come back - if he does then spray again - he will soon get the message.

I have an indoor cat who uses a litter tray but when we lived in our last house she was able to come and go as she pleased and yes probably shit in other peoples gardens as well as ours. That's life - we used to get the fox crapping everywhere too.

And a cat lead - my cat would lacerate anyone who attempted to put one of those on her.

Check out the RSPB website for info re cats and birds - generally the ones they take are those who may not survive anyway but I can recommend a device called The Liberator which attaches to a cat's coller - as soobn as they start to pounce it emits a loud beeping and my cat's hunting activities are definitely curtailed by it.

Tiredmumno1 · 19/03/2010 17:26

Ahh my ol' mate northern, actually one of the scratches caused today is pretty damn bad

Can I ask a (genuine) question of the cat owners? I've never had a cat, so don't know much about them.

If a cat has its own dedicated cat litter tray, will it use that all of the time or will it use it only when it happens to be indoors?

It would seem to be the responsible thing for all cat owners to train them to use the litter tray to as great an extent as possible.

I do find some cat owners' attitudes annoying, like their cat's shit is something we should all just smile indulgently about and clean up. Most people would be pretty annoyed if my dog, myself or my child took a dump in their garden whenever we felt like it.

Tiredmumno1 · 19/03/2010 17:28

Will have a look ta jolly, and thanks to everyone for the other suggestions, i will try them one by one, except running it over or strangling it of course.

darkandstormy · 19/03/2010 17:30

tiredmum.damaging other peoples things is not okay.Don't you think you are perhaps over reacting? Are you sure it is a cat must have very strong claws must use sally hansen nail conditioner.

peggotty · 19/03/2010 17:35

cider, cats will generally always want to crap in the same place. So could be in your strawberry patch, or could be in a cat litter tray. I think it would be quite hard to retrain a cat that goes outdoors and has a usual spot for crapping, to start using a litter tray. Not impossible though. My 2 generally shit in my garden.

Tiredmumno1 · 19/03/2010 17:36

How many times me and hubby have both seen it scratch the car

OP posts:
claw3 · 19/03/2010 17:40

Cider, most cats would go back to the litter tray.

My cats stopped using the litter tray, because lots of other cats starting pooing in my garden. My cats have now entered the shit in my garden competition and have stopped using the litter tray.

Foxes seemed to have entered the competition too, you and your kids might as well join in, bring your dog too

feelikeflouncing · 19/03/2010 17:42

I think you should get a cat of your own for a counter attack on the car sitter, cat shitter

darkandstormy · 19/03/2010 17:52

feellikefloucing they are clean they just don't put the same emphasis as us on items such as lumps of metal and the like. They are slightly more in tune with nature. perhaps we should all take a tip out of their book, with regard to material items.

feelikeflouncing · 19/03/2010 17:52

Claw -

feelikeflouncing · 19/03/2010 17:55

OP posts:

tiredmum.that is a good point you should get your own cat.You never know it may make you happy

feelikeflouncing · 19/03/2010 17:57

See tired I can feel you are starting to love cat ! Sorry about the one who scratch your car tought !

messymissy · 19/03/2010 17:57

havent had time to read all this thread so apologies if i am repeating something..

lynexxx - try putting bicarbonate of soda on it,rub into all the crevices, leave it over night and hoover off. works with lots of odours - it sort of neutralises the smell.

yes, cats a real pest - worse that they cover poo - as you dig happily in the garden or go to pick up the leaves and yuk there is a cat poo lurking....

cat scarer for the garden fab idea will try one.

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 19/03/2010 18:08

Thanks for the info people, and for the kind invite Claw

We have such frequent shit-athons in our garden the animals (not sure of which variety - fox, cat or badger being the likeliest suspects) have literally worn a path across their favourite corner of the lawn.

darkandstormy · 19/03/2010 18:14

who is next for the firing squad? oh yes, birds, cause they shit don't they?all that white stuff everywhere blighting our beautiful and luscious landscape.

trice · 19/03/2010 18:26

I hate cats in my garden (lovely creatures in other situations). There are about four locally that like to shit in my garden. I would love their owners to come and scoop the poop but I imagine they bought cats so that they would not have to do any of the work that comes with pet ownership. Wild animals; birds/badgers/foxes; I am perfectly happy to accommodate and even encourage. Other peoples cats are a menace.

I'm getting a supersoaker.
