Cats grrr

Right terribly sorry for trying to hijack the other thread.
A cat up the road from us thinks it owns the street .
It scares away any other cat that lives nearby, and keeps jumping all over our car scratching it all over, and shiting in my garden which i have to clean up cos i have kids, its disgusting why the hell should have to put up with this, its caused a lot of damage which we should not have to pay for. What the hell do i do. Grrrr

Thanks Clarrisimo, I will try that.

Claw3, I don't really think there is anything cat owners can actually do. Short of keeping the cat indoors all the time (which isn't very nice for the cat) they will go out, and pee and poo everywhere.

We all understand that, but please understand that it pisses off the non cat owners when they do it on our property.

poshwellies · 19/03/2010 13:55

'It seems the height of selfishness on the part of a pet owner.'

Oh Fuck it,let's just kill all the cats

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 19/03/2010 14:02

No, I wouldn't sanction killing all the cats - I'm not in the habit of killing any living thing (apart from wasps. I make an exception for wasps).

Can you really not accept or understand that foisting your pet, it's excrement and the damage it can cause onto your neighbours, whilst bearing none of the responsibility for it's actions, is selfish?

claw3 · 19/03/2010 14:02

Maisie, i remember reading somewhere that in a State in America (i think), cats had to be kept on leads.

Personally i got my first cat, as our house backs onto woodland and we had a real mice/rat problem. The smell alone of a cat in a house, will stop mice/rats coming into your house. Seemed like the kinder option than mouse/rats traps, poison in the long run.

claw3 · 19/03/2010 14:05

Lynnex, I totally understand as i said in my earlier post, my garden is the local litter tray and i dont think its unreasonable to take measures to deter cats from pooing in your garden.

poshwellies · 19/03/2010 14:06

I don't foist my cat on anyone,as I stated in my previous post,my feline is a indoor cat and uses a litter tray.

I really can't understand the big outcry,ok it's not nice to have cats shit in your garden, but unless you have multiple cats just using your garden and your garden only as a toliet-you aren't really having major issues.

You simply are a cat hater.

Damage? What damage are these cats doing? jumping on a few bonnets? ripping opening the odd binbag? I'm sorry but it's hardly a criminal offence

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 19/03/2010 14:12

Yes, the 'you' was a general 'you', which I accept was incorrect given that you'd already said that your cat is an indoor cat.

If you have to go out to your garden and clean cat crap off a lawn before your children can play, or if you spend your time pulling shit from your flower beds then it is a major issue - I'm amazed that you can be so dismissive of other people's concerns.

The damage mentioned on here has been scratches to the paintwork on a car and a pram which still stinks of cat wee even after several washes. Again, I'm that you are being so dismissive - if you're trying to defend cats and cat owners then you've just shot your arguement to pieces.

Tiredmumno1 · 19/03/2010 14:14

Erm posh they have nails and everytime they jump up and clamber over the car, its leaving scratches, and as i said before i dont have a cat or a dog so why should i clean up after them, its disgusting not only does it stink to high heaven but i thought that cats poo carries some sort of disease or something harmful, therefore i dont want it near my kids. I wouldnt expect any cat owner to change my sons pooey so why should i do it for their cat, if wanted to do that then i would have a cat then

Our next door neighbours poured used engine oil from their car all over our cat.

Maybe that approach would satisfy some of you.

Shodan · 19/03/2010 14:21

Yes yes. Let's get rid of all the cats.

Then we can all have lovely rats and mice running all over the place. Far nicer.

poshwellies · 19/03/2010 14:21

I'm not being dimissive.

I find dog owners that allow their dogs to crap on public highways and paths and parks more frustrating than the odd cat shitting in my flower beds.My children don't play or walk in my flowerbeds but they walk to school side stepping dog excretement.

displayuntilbestbefore · 19/03/2010 14:23

ROFL that objecting to feline fecal matter in our gardens, where our children play, is apparently completely unreasonable and must mean that we are capable of malicious plans to cull all domestic cats!

ImSoNotTelling · 19/03/2010 14:27

Thing is that I agree that domestic cats have a lot to answer for with the decimation of the bird population, and next doors 3 cats shitting in my garden drives me mad.

But equally I have been bitten twice by dogs when just out and about, intimitated by other dogs, and there is piles of dog crap all over all the pavements just waiting for someone to step in it/a buggy wheel/a falling toddler.

All pets have their positives and negatives. Cats and dogs have both been domesticated for thousands of years, both bring a lot of pleasure to a lot of people. Cats are v good for elderly people for example, if they are not able to take a dog out for walks. The beauty of them is that they are independent, and appeal to a different sort of person to those who want a more demanding pet.

Some of the comments on here are just nasty, and as for labelling everyone who keeps a cat as lazy, well that's just not on.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 19/03/2010 14:28

Agree re the dog owners. However, the difference is that dog owners choose not to pick it up, and can (in theory) be prosecuted. Cat owners don't know what the heck their cat is up to, and bear no responsibility.

Most of the cats in our street would run a mile from a rat, but it's a nice thought. They tend to focus more on fouling lawns and beds, and dismembering birds.

Talking of gardening - I'm off out to pick up the leaves (and cat faeces, no doubt - lovely).

ImSoNotTelling · 19/03/2010 14:29

At least no-one buys large muscular cats with big teeth and then teaches them to attack on command, and then takes them out onto the streets and uses them as a weapon.

Both dogs and cats have good and bad points.

ClaireDeLoon · 19/03/2010 14:30

My cats sit on my cars all the time and never ever scratch them, they are so well trained [smug]

They also rush in the outside to do their poos in the litter tray and the crazy lady living nearby loves them so they are in fact cats that do a great service to the community simply by existing.

My cats are great

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 19/03/2010 14:31

No - I didn't label everyone who keeps a cat as lazy, only the ones who stick them outside and then don't know/care where they are crapping. Far easier than having an animal that you've actually got to muck out or pick up after.

Tiredmumno1 · 19/03/2010 14:31

Well these neighbours are either lazy or stupid, who in there right mind gets a cat if they are hardly ever in. Cruelty in my eyes

"The beauty of them is that they are independent, and appeal to a different sort of person to those who want a more demanding pet."

Hmm...sounds to me just the same as wanting the perks of a pet without the responsibility.

poshwellies · 19/03/2010 14:33

We still talking about cats????

TopSop · 19/03/2010 14:34

I have two cats - they are indoor cats except in summer when they come out in the garden to play (they are long-haired nervy pedigrees with no street smarts at all so would wander out in the road without a second thought, and I don't want them killed out there!). We do have other people's cats come in our garden though and poo in my veggie patch - not pleasant for me, having to clear up my own cats' litter tray and then go out and sort out someone else's cat's poo as well (esp. as pg with no. 2). The mothball suggestion is one I may well be using!!!!!! along the back fence behind the shed where the cats come into the garden :-)

Clarissimo · 19/03/2010 14:35

Tired they are the ideal pet if you work all day if they have a cat flap or access to a safe warm outbuilding.

poshwellies · 19/03/2010 14:36

'Hmm...sounds to me just the same as wanting the perks of a pet without the responsibility.'

You cannot change an animals natural behaviour!!!!!

Should we take them out on leads for walkies?

Tiredmumno1 · 19/03/2010 14:36

Dont even get me started on bloody dogs and there inconsiderate owners, i would say about 5% of owners round here pick up the crap, the other 95% are just disgusting and lazy. They take over the local fields and parks this place is covered in shit, its like one huge outside toilet. Yuck

OP posts:
ClaireDeLoon · 19/03/2010 14:40

They also rush in the from outside
