To be out of my mind with worry about a cat?

Let them out at 6.30 this morning, had the backdoor adjar so they could pop in/out as they wished. Was working in the study, one cat came in and out etc, now dozing. Other one hasn't been seen since, despite calling, leaving food just by door etc. He'd normally be coming in every 20-30 minutes and jump all over my computor. I'm so so so worried, he's only seven months old, only started going out about six weeks ago, always comes when I call. To make matters worse, heard rumour that our next door but one neighbour has a pitbull!

I can't concentrate on work or anything, just so desperately want to see his little face.

any sign of puss yet?

wannaBe · 20/03/2010 14:26

cats are inconsiderate little sods.

One of mine went missing when she was about seven months old. I went round the streets calling her and then heard her crying. Turned out she'd managed to climb up on to the roof of a (two story ) house. Have no idea how she got up there. The RSPCA told me she had to be up there for at least three days before they'd help so when I went round to inform the owners of the house that she was up there the man got his long ladder out of his garage and dh was able to climb up and get her down.

My other cat went missing the first day we let her out after we moved house. I spent the next two days calling and calling and calling her but with no result. My mum went round to the old house to see if she'd gone home but nothing. Then on the 3rd morning I got up to find her there on the landing. She was covered in oil and I think she'd been shut in someone's garage. She's practically agorophobic now and doesn't stray beyond the garden.

My friend's cat went missing and she was so upset - the kids missed him too, but it was her cat really. She also knocked on loads of doors, put posters up, and tried to think of where he'd been shut in. A whole week later, someone said they thought (not sure, but thought) they'd seen a cat in the window of a garage, so she asked the owner - who'd been away - to let her look. Called out for the cat and heard a tiny meow, and there he was! All thin and weedy, but still fine.

Keep looking and asking people, got fingers crossed for you!

Mine went missing for 9 hours once and when she came home I was so happy so I can imagine how you must be feeling so much worse.

Come home all your naughty cats!

Ripeberry · 20/03/2010 18:13

Sympathies to all of you who are missing a cat or lost a cat . My Bengal went missing last July and has never come back.
It's the NOT knowing that upsets me most.
I keep coming accross photos of him and I miss him so much.
He is microchiped, so if someone did steal him, then maybe one day he might turn up.
I wonder if they check before they put new microchips in ?
And would they query it with the new 'owner'?

Hey everyone.

Sad news regarding my little cat, I'm afraid. He was found this afternoon, not in a good way. Took him to the vets, reckoned he'd been dead about 48 hours .

At least we know. But I'm going to miss him so much. He wasn't even a year old.

Worst part is, was my six year old neice who found him .

oh how sad

I am so sorry to hear this

Let yourself have a good sob. They are sweet little creatures whom we take to our hearts - even if we aren't always aware of it until they go absent.

Some un-MN hugs coming your way

I'm so sorry.

NorbertDentressangle · 20/03/2010 18:40

Oh so sorry to hear this.

If it helps at all, my DC (10 and 5) found our neighbours cat after he had died.

I expected them to be really upset and distraught, especially DD(10) as she is a 'delicate soul' (to put it mildly!) but they coped really well. In fact, I would say that they almost took it in their stride. Its as if seeing him helped them come to terms with the finality of it IYSWIM -so hopefully your niece will not be affected too badly by it.

darkandstormy · 20/03/2010 18:43

TheCatAteMyGymsuit · 20/03/2010 18:45

IHeartKittensAndWine · 20/03/2010 18:47

Thank you Norbert, it does help. Poor thing, it was billed as a Saturday afternoon adventure for her ("let's go and find Aunty IHeart's naughty cat"), and then we were talking to these people, begging permission to go into their garden and she went running down their side entrance in, peering under the hedges and things while we were yacking and then heard a shriek... but she did calm down very quickly.
