YANBU - I agree

My youngest DS (autistic) lives off the stuff. We have loads of little glasses now from the Nutella jars so cuts back on buying drinks glasses at least.

ThePinkOne · 16/03/2010 23:26

When I first saw the advert that says it contains hazelnuts, cocoa powder and milk, I thought it was giving the impression it contained just that. When I looked at the label it isn't!!

This is from Wiki

'According to the product label, the main ingredients of Nutella are sugar and vegetable oils, followed by hazelnut, cocoa solids and skimmed milk, which together comprise at most 28% of the ingredients.'

Awful advertising. Very wrong!

claw3 · 16/03/2010 23:29

My youngest ds (autistic) lives on the stuff too!

stillenacht · 16/03/2010 23:30

how funny claw3!! We get through a jar of it a week (well he gets through a jar of it a week!).

JustAnotherManicMummy · 16/03/2010 23:31

I always chortle when they say "each portion contains 2 whole hazelnuts". As if that's what's important!

claw3 · 16/03/2010 23:34

I dread to think how much we have got through over the years!

Nutella sandwiches for lunch and dinner and not much else, all he has eaten on a regular basis since he could eat.

Unhealthy as hell, but it has kept him going and his weight up

stillenacht · 16/03/2010 23:35

Yes know the feeling.

Mine will eat marmite on toast as well and spag bol - thats it

SpeedyGonzalez · 16/03/2010 23:41

JAMM - quite! Like, that makes up for all the fat and sugar!

Honey hoop breakfast cereal with no milk, ready salted crisps, vanilla ice cream and thats it.

Nutella on bread is the healthy option for us

stillenacht · 16/03/2010 23:44

Its a funny thing this autism!

claw3 · 16/03/2010 23:54

It certainly is, we can live in hope of a roast dinner one day!

Good luck.

stillenacht · 16/03/2010 23:56

and you too {smile] xx

stillenacht · 16/03/2010 23:56

even xx

elliedodger · 17/03/2010 00:23

I get very annoyed at this sort of misleading advertising. I do love Nutella on pancakes but it's so sweet it makes my teeth hurt. No way is it healthy.

BertieBotts · 17/03/2010 00:54

One of my friends gives it to her one year old on toast for his breakfast "because it's sort of healthy, isn't it?"

This is a perfectly intelligent educated woman.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/03/2010 11:36

agree

it is a spread made with nuts and chocolate and sugar

hardly healthy stuff for breakfast

fine for a treat every now and again (as with all foods)

morningpaper · 17/03/2010 11:38

but it is SO DELICIOUS

I agree with Emmmmma. Chocolate is from a tree therefore it is a fruit or veg and therefore a bar of chocolate or a spoon of nutella is one of you 5 a day.

leavingonajetplane · 17/03/2010 12:01

I think it is unreasonable that healthy food doesnt taste like nutella.

Wasnt chocolate nut spread invented post wwII as something healthy to bring up the weight of malnourished children in germany? In the days when people were in blissful ignorance about sugar not being that nutritious (sigh)

myfaceisatomato · 17/03/2010 12:03

I hate this sort of thing too. I remember reading the back of a Rice Krispie pack once that suggested combining RK and a melted packet of toffees would constitute a healthy flapjack-style snack! Er I don't think so!

Have never bought Nutella - we get through loads of peanut butter but a dietician told me that's good for ds1 so I don't feel too bad about it.

pigletmania · 17/03/2010 12:04

Love Nutella it is so yummy

thedollshouse · 17/03/2010 12:12

I agree. We have Nutella on holiday for breakfast and very occasionally I might buy it for a special treat. Its about as healthy as a Kit Kat and Rowntree don't go around advocating Kit Kats as a healthy breakfast for our kids do they?
