to think that advertising Nutella as a healthy food is just WRONG?

TheBM'sonMe (and others, who I can't be arsed to name) - you've clearly not understood my point...I'm criticising the advertising, not commenting on whether or not it's an unhealthy food. So there

In any case, to respond to your post, you'd NEVER slather on Marmite like Nutella, so the salt issue is irrelevant. We all need some salt. And peanut butter is made from a healthier fat than Nutella. [hoitycon]

And for what it's worth, I bite my thumb at Ferreros.

This is ridiculous. Its spreadable chocolate, if you think its "healthy" because of the advert you aren't the sharpest knife in the drawer are you?

Of course the advertising is trying to make you buy it, thats the point. If you are so easily fooled by the advert, then more fool you.

Green and blacks version is faaaar nicer anyway.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 19/03/2010 11:07

I was speaking with my tongue firmly in my cheek (stuck there from Nutella).

GrimmaTheNome · 19/03/2010 11:17

I got the Green&Blacks version instead of Nutella last time, and I'm disappointed - its just not as chocolatey. It does spread a bit easier though.

I always have found it hard to come up with a halfway sensible breakfast for DD - she doesn't like milk or 'sensible' cereals, wont eat wholemeal toast... till at grannys, she was given Nairns oatcakes with Nutella (which granny has always claimed was healthy long before the ads because her mum used to get it from the Health Food Shop).

DD wouldn't eat the oatcakes (low GI, surely healthier than most kids brekkie foods?) without the nutella, and theres probably only about a teaspoonful in total on 3 oarcakes. A lot less than the amount of butter and marmalade most people have on toast.

The problem is of course, me eating it by the spoonful. But thats instead of choccies.

Thinks cotedazurmust be quite young to think 60 is good age to give up on her weight

CoteDAzur · 22/03/2010 13:29

CoteDAzur is 39 and training for her first 10K race. She probably won't be keeping up the health diet and exercise at age 60. Yes, that's a shocker

Interesting cultural differences here. We spend a lot of time in France and there a recommended government breakfast for children is a cup of hot chocolate, a toasted piece of baguette with nutella and a glass of orange juice.

PeedOffWithNits · 22/03/2010 14:00

never have nutella, occasionally have a dairy free chocolate spread (soya based) to top a cake with

DS keeps asking for chocolate sandwiches - he is in reception. his friend has chocolate sandwich, chocolate bisciut and crisps for lunch everyday - no fruit or veg

DS gets ham sandwich, pot of salad, biscuit/cake/scone , 2 pce fresh fruit or mini raisins, friend says he "doesn't like any of that stuff"

don't know what he drinks probably froot shoot

Portofino is right in that in Belgium nutella is a basic food stuff. Along with chocolate sprinkles on buttered bread bleugh. DH only allowed to buy the DCs nutella etc on holiday though. (He then says but what about marmalade on toast? - sorry but toast without marmalade is unthinkable )

My DSs love nutella but wont eat it every day as they dont think it is a very healthy brekkie (they are 8 and 6)!! [Halo emoticon]

TiggyD · 22/03/2010 21:59

Nutella ads are hilarious the way they go on about the nuts and the milk but completely forgetting to mention anything to do with chocolate! It's chocolate spread. Chocolate is the entire point of the stuff.

SpeedyGonzalez · 23/03/2010 21:40

Lizcat - interesting, that. I also noticed that they have a lower recommended daily calorie intake in France - 100 calories less than ours per day. So that's 700 cals less per week - a whole meal's worth. Maybe that's how they justify recommending Nutella for brekkie!
