in being cross at the girl on the very crowded commuter-stuffed bus who decided to peel and eat a satsuma?

Two reasons I am pissed off at this. One is, I do think that eating something very odiferous in a confined public space is anti-social....there is no escape from it...(even healthy foods)

second, and I do know this shouldn't really come into it, but its an hour long bus journey for ds who has dyspraxia, and he has trouble with travel sickness AND is a supertaster....literally throws up in the presence of oranges being peeled and eaten. She was sitting right opposite him.

I saw how he was trying to control himself, but it was clear he wasn't going to make it. So I manage to get him off the bus, for him to throw up all overhimself, and poor wee lad has to walk 25 mins in the freezing cold without his top layer....

Possibly IABU.

YABEU (extremely) firstly what if this woman needed that orange due to medical reasons? It's public transport for a reason. If you expect special treatment hire a chauffeur driven limo taxi.

YABU. It's unfortunate what happened to your DS but the lady was not to know. Like you I don't think its appropriate or other to eat hot or smelling foods on public transport, however things like fruits I think people usually consider to be okay - there was no way for her to know. Also whilst I agree that it's a bit anti-social, on public transport you never know what you're going to get so you have to make do i'm afraid.

On the tube one day a Japanese girl and her boyfriend sat next to me and immediately opened up some sushi. The smell was overwhelming and had me reeling. I said to her "Don't even think of eating that next to me." She immediately put it away. We need to stick up for ourselves when people act anti-socially next to us. Most people would not think they were being anti-social eating a satsuma but, if someone opposite is clearly showing distress we'd be pretty thick-skinned not to notice.

I just would have said to her I'm very sorry but the smell of satsuma will make my son vomit - do you mind waiting until we are off the bus? She prob would have waited and saved you all the drama you unfort had. Hope your son is ok.

@Mommy2times how did you even find this thread????

ThinkOfTheHorses · 07/08/2017 21:51

Oranges aren't that strong ... and to most it's a pleasant smell ... far better than the usual BO smell of buses in rush hour
