in being cross at the girl on the very crowded commuter-stuffed bus who decided to peel and eat a satsuma?

Two reasons I am pissed off at this. One is, I do think that eating something very odiferous in a confined public space is anti-social....there is no escape from it...(even healthy foods)

second, and I do know this shouldn't really come into it, but its an hour long bus journey for ds who has dyspraxia, and he has trouble with travel sickness AND is a supertaster....literally throws up in the presence of oranges being peeled and eaten. She was sitting right opposite him.

I saw how he was trying to control himself, but it was clear he wasn't going to make it. So I manage to get him off the bus, for him to throw up all overhimself, and poor wee lad has to walk 25 mins in the freezing cold without his top layer....

Possibly IABU.

Ynbu but then I'm weird and can't stand the noise of food being unwrapped or eaten when I'm on a train. No idea why it's just a pet hate, so someone eating an orange opposite me would have made me disproportionately angry Grin

LoudestRoar · 07/08/2017 19:58

Love that Mommy2times has waited over 7 years to use that pun...

missiondecision · 07/08/2017 19:59

School?? It's the holidays?
Yabu and ridiculously self entitled.
You need to teach yourself and your son how to cope. Sick bags in your handbag sounds necessary.
My child is allergic to nuts even if they are being eaten near her..... her solution is to move!

IloveBanff · 07/08/2017 20:04

missiondecision it wasn't the school holidays when the OP was posted!

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 07/08/2017 20:05

Yabu
Sorry 😐

Neutrogena · 07/08/2017 20:07

YABVU

your son is going to have a very hard and miserable life if you are as intolerant as you write. What a shame for the lad.

potatoscowls · 07/08/2017 20:09

Argh its a zombie thread

insancerre · 07/08/2017 20:14

Ops son has probably graduated from uni by now
Jesus why do people do this with threads

CheeseAndOnionIcecream · 07/08/2017 20:14

YANBU. I'm one of those rare people who hates the smell of oranges, satumas etc. If someone on a bus or train starts peeling and eating one,it makes me feel nauseous. I don't care if it's healthy,it still smells horrible.

peppep · 07/08/2017 20:17

YABU. VU.

Citrus is a smell added to cleaning solutions because it's a 'nice' smell. If it was smoked mackerel pate, I'd have possibly agreed with you......

peppep · 07/08/2017 20:17

Oh FFS. Where has this zombie come from? Balls.

Notinmybackyard · 07/08/2017 20:19

ZOMBIE

user1489675144 · 07/08/2017 20:20

I agree with the poster who finds strong perfume offensive... much worse (IMO) that an orange

Now B.O very offensive...

I imagine lots of people have lots of different smells they don't like so difficult to find oranges offensive when compared to the other smells that occur...poor boy though....can he get help for throwing up at a smell of an orange..?

user1489675144 · 07/08/2017 20:21

LOL... the zombie smell is much worse...
it showed as top thread...odd

Redglitter · 07/08/2017 20:22

Ffs how do people even come across these threads to resurrect them

Woopzies · 07/08/2017 20:25

YANBU.

Usually bus companies have signs that say "please do not bring strong smelling foods or foods that may spill onto the bus" so she probably should've followed the rules.

Zarah123 · 07/08/2017 20:28

Zombie, but...

So its okay to stink a bus out with food smells?

YABU, long gone OP. Oranges do not stink. They are lush.

GoldTippedFeather · 07/08/2017 20:31

I don't think you are mad. I do not understand the need to eat on public transport (long train/plane journeys withstanding). Just wait until you get off the bus. A woman on my train home had a full portion of lasagne the other day, train carriage smelt like school dinners Hmm

PencilsInSpace · 07/08/2017 20:33

I would prefer to sit next to a zombie on the bus than someone eating any sort of orange.

TeamCersei · 07/08/2017 20:35

YABU
Satsumas and oranges smell lovely and fresh.
What's not to like.

user1498911589 · 07/08/2017 20:36

YABU because the satsuma would have gone mouldy by now if she had peeled it and hadn't eaten it....

Decaffstilltastesweird · 07/08/2017 20:40

I know it's (another) zombie thread, but just HAD to say, my friend at school was afraid of oranges. She ran out of the room if she saw one and she really wasn't normally a drama llama or anything, so I think it was a genuine phobia. I think it was the peeling in particular she hated and also just the peel.
