to buy the baby swing i want and tell dh it was alot cheaper than it really was?

ok... Dd is 12 weeks and a real pain with daytime naps, unless she lies on you she wont sleep and even then she has now started only taking 10-20 mins at a time, nightimes are good...

I would really like to get the fisher price smart swing which would last through toddler years but its around £90! Dh would have a fit at this price but all the cheaper swings end by 9 months or dont have music etc so to me it makes sense to get the fisher price one... aibu to get it anyway and tell dh it was half price or something?

I've been looking at ebay etc but none closer than 30-50 miles from me and all say pick up only... Wwyd?

ask them if they would box it up, courriers only £8. worth the saving as they are only in them a few months!

if you buy for £30 you can resell for £30

if you buy for £90 you can only still resell for £30!

I don't think many toddlers would be interested in sitting in a swing tbh, so I'd go with the cheap one.

buy a cheaper one - most toddlers wouldn't be interested in something like that, so just get a standard swinging one.

you won't believe how much your baby will have changed by 9 months....a rocking swing is unlikely to work for a 9 month+ old in the same way....honestly I would get a normal baby one. I agree with it's worth whatever to pay to get some rest/peace without having to hold your baby but I don't think the toddler option is worth paying for.

I'm very of you lot that can sneak things past your DP's. My DH is a Bank Manager and think he must have some kind of flashing light that goes off at his desk if I so much as think about using the switch card.

cool, thanks guys for reassuring me that its 'normal' to spare dh the pain if knowing.... Am torn though about getting a cheaper one, does anyone have any recommendations as to which ones are worth getting/ work getting stubborn madams to sleep?
I did look at the link a doo one but theres a safety warning about the babys head lolling to the side and still swinging so that put me off that one.... Suggestions welcome!

Also, re the courier - who would you recommend? Are they all likely to be that cheap?

But YANBU if you think it's really the one you want. After all you are the one at home all day going nuts with non-napping baby, it is a snip at whatever price if you get some peace.
(My DH says we don't need a double pushchair for when next baby is born, when DS will be 19months, he has gone away on a conference, he will be back to see a Phil and Teds in the lounge that I just bought off gumtree ...haha...he might not need it...I DO!)

I had the Linkadoos one for DS. It was FAB. I remember putting DD in a Fisher Price rainforest one at a friend's house and she fell asleep straight away so was determined to get a swing when DS was born.
Agree that they will only use it for a few months however fancy it is.
I got mine second hand (but was unused) off a local classified website. Have you looked on Gumtree?

good for you summer! My dh has an idea that dd wont need a buggy at all when shes 1, or 1 and a half at the latest! I've told him to bog off but if he wants to carry her everywhere he's more than welcome! Men! i really wonder where his head is at sometimes, when i got a changing unit from ebay he said it was a waste of money (mamas and papas for £27!) and swore that the floor was good enough as that was all he used for his first dd who is now 14.... 1 cs later he can see the benefit!

My friend had fisher price rainforest swingy one, her DD seemed to love it. However, my nephew had one of the ones that doesn't swing but vibrates, I think depending on baby they may get them to sleep easier (sorry to confuse you!)
We had a swingy one and a laid back seat thing that didn't swing as well (both were second hand so can't tell you what make exactly), he loved being in the swingy one but was less likely to sleep in it.
Gumtree seconded if you have one near you, there are always baby swings on there.

i still have 15mnth old stubborn madam who dislikes sleep and i actually cried for days when she out grew her mamas and papas starlight swing at 10mnths, although i kept her in it a few more weeks feet dragging on the floor lol!

If i had found this i would have brought it at 10mnths let alone 12wks!

My dds swing was my best friend!

You just need to use the immortal phrase "There was a sale on" when you come back with it.

You don't need to specify that whatever you bought was actually in this sale or not. DH still hasn't worked that one out.

the rainforest one is awful!! GPs had it at there house, it has no reclines so poor dd was hunched and uncomfortable and if like me you have a clumsy toddler around the seat tips forwards and the useless waist belt does nothing to save baby from a face first flight into the carpet!

A bit of advice from my late Nanny, who would buy dresses that Grandad didn't begrudge but just (probably rightly) didn't see that she needed. Nanny would buy, put the dress in the wardrobe for a couple of weeks and then wear it. Grandad would compliment her on it and say that he didn't think he'd seen it before.

Cue Nanny's stock response, "Oh, it's been in the wardrobe for ages!".

They had a blissfully happy marriage for nearly 60 years. What the eye doesn't see....

YABU. Lying to your husband isn't at all okay. How would you feel if he lied to you? Besides, it's a lot of money for something with a very limited use, time-wise, as (whatever it says) I don't see something like that really being useful for a toddler.

Of course lying about money is considered acceptable. Cannot believe how my marriage has survived otherwise!

I would freecycle for a swing before buying one. We've got (and given) some amazing things through freecycle.

If no luck after a couple of days, buy one in the sale
