... AIBU to think Mumsnet is really AMAZING

My DD is in a hospital in London, in the middle of nowhere, with just DH for company and an infected foot, tied up to drips, and within hours of letting my mumsnet chums know, Mner Renderedspeechless arrives with a "MASSIVE bag of books and LOADS OF OTHER STUFF" (I am not quite sure of the details) AND an ipod charger.

DD is very sad to be in hospital so to be surrounded by books will cheer her up a LOT.

So big big BIG thanks to Renderedspeechless and also to others who offered help including Alexw and LazyJourno and lots of others - you are GREAT and Mumsnet is a fab community. Me and my family are very grateful indeed. XXX

(did you see how I ego-centrically sneaked my name into the subject there )

A quick update

DD is still in hospital on IV a/bs

we now have a diagnosis of infected pompholyx, which is good in that there is a diagnosis but bad in that it is not easily treatable and she is up all night writhing with the itching - she's only slept for six hours in the last 24 and it is horrible to watch her suffering

she is a trooper though - the infection is clearing up nicely and she is so cheery. Last night I took her for a midnight race through the hospital in her buggy to take her mind off the itching - I ran as fast as I could pushing her through the deserted corridors and she was laughing.

Ah, that's (mostly) good to hear, MP. Hopefully the itching will settle soon as well as you can have her home. Glad she is cheery and hope the rest of you are coping ok.

That midnight trolley dash sounds ace! I want one!

Buda · 19/02/2010 09:50

I was a bit worried when you didn't update yesterday.

Glad you have a diagnosis but bloody pain tht it is not an easy fix.

Midnight race sounds fun! And that is probably what she will remember when she is older!

GibbonInARibbon · 19/02/2010 09:55

That midnight race will be a cherished memory

Hope she is fully recovered soon and home with you all.

Flightattendant · 19/02/2010 09:58

Oh gosh MP I hope she is well soon, proper well I mean and no backsies

I hope it continues to respond well...off to google and see what it is. Poor dd.

Flightattendant · 19/02/2010 10:02

Ah I see, now. Looks like antibiotics are the way forward, they could give IV steroids but this means it might recur, so good they aren't doing that. There is also a UV treatment they can use, maybe ask about that one.

Lots of love xx

bratnav · 19/02/2010 11:45

Glad you have a diagnosis and treatment for DD, progress at least

MayorNaze · 19/02/2010 12:02

sorry to hear this MP

but glad things seem to be on the mend

TigerFeet · 19/02/2010 13:48

oh mp poor dd and poor you
fingers crossed for a speedy recovery

foxinsocks · 19/02/2010 15:41

ah MP, you may not believe me but I was going to suggest pompholyx as I get it on my hands and it was your description of chicken pox and the possible allergic reaction to the spray that made me think of it. I get it on my hands when I've been exposed to something harsh - it is unbearably itchy, poor poor dd.

I found keeping it v cold helps it stop feeling so itchy. I don't know why but it seems to take the extreme itch out of it. You know those Mr Bump cold things you put in the fridge? I found those v soothing (anyway, don't do this if it's against medical advice or if it doesn't seem to help her).

I have to take an sedating antihistamine to sleep when I have it so I hope they are prescribing dd one if she is struggling at night.

Give her a big kiss from me - it's a horrible thing, especially to get it infected. Hope she's over the worst of it soon.

(ps I smother my hands in Epaderm to keep them moisturised and help ward it off. Try and get them to prescribe you a tub of it before you leave as when her skin starts to heel and the infection has gone, you'll need to keep it moisturised so it doesn't get itchy again)

foxinsocks · 19/02/2010 15:42

heal not heel ffs!

psychomum5 · 19/02/2010 18:34

thank goodness for the DX.

lol @ the midnight racing, sounds much fun.

as it happens, my DH gets that on his hands (he gets it from bricklaying and an allergy to certain cements....typical!). He has various creams and AB's when bad, but in between he uses boots intensive foot moisturiser. Might sound bizarre but it seems to be the only thing that helps his hands. that said, his hands are rough from bricklaying so that might be why he needs something quite so more intense IYGWIM.

hoping that she is better soon and home, and that normality resumes in the MP house.

for you

morningpaper · 20/02/2010 13:43
