... AIBU to think Mumsnet is really AMAZING

My DD is in a hospital in London, in the middle of nowhere, with just DH for company and an infected foot, tied up to drips, and within hours of letting my mumsnet chums know, Mner Renderedspeechless arrives with a "MASSIVE bag of books and LOADS OF OTHER STUFF" (I am not quite sure of the details) AND an ipod charger.

DD is very sad to be in hospital so to be surrounded by books will cheer her up a LOT.

So big big BIG thanks to Renderedspeechless and also to others who offered help including Alexw and LazyJourno and lots of others - you are GREAT and Mumsnet is a fab community. Me and my family are very grateful indeed. XXX

(did you see how I ego-centrically sneaked my name into the subject there )

Can I add in how wonderful I too am finding MN at the moment and have been since being in hospital myself.

I have been spoilt by lots of MNers, with DVDs, books, chocs, sweeties, cards and flowers

mumsnet ROCKS!! (so take that and stick it up ya bums all you nasty journelists bitching in the papers)

MP, am glad she is home but about her still being poorly and maybe having foot and mouth being missed at hosp.

lots hugs and hope she conitnues mending.

LongtimeinBrussels · 16/02/2010 19:59

This is a lovely thread! I don't understand all the negativity about mumsnet. Of course if you look you can find some not too nice threads but, on the other hand, you don't have to look too hard to find other wonderful examples of support on here.

Get well soon mpdd!

Bumperlicious · 16/02/2010 20:02

Aww, MP I missed this, glad DD is better and well done rendered and everyone else who volunteered to help out.

What a worry for you MP, glad they are back home safe.

bubblerock · 16/02/2010 20:10

Aww, bless her, I had cellulitis when I was about 11 because of a blister - it hurts like hell, my foot felt like it was going to explode!! Hope she starts feeling better soon & glad you are getting lots of support

Elasticwoman · 16/02/2010 20:25

Is this the thread on which to ask did any one read Isabella Oakeshott slagging off MN in the Sunday Times?

She seems to think that any one not agreeing with her is bullying.

LazyJourno · 16/02/2010 20:26

Awww I've just seen this. How wonderful your DD is now home and on the mend! And you DH is back.

Rendered and Alexw were proper heroes. I just accidentally offered MrLJ up for "manly activities" with your DH. I will instruct him to stand-down forthwith. He was greased you know

LazyJourno · 16/02/2010 20:32

And the bullying stuff? I say "pah!"

Some people will talk hog-wash. Had a bit myself the other day - but in the main we're a good old lot. Just like in real life.

Now, I'm off to slip into something a bit more comfortable... this temporary name is making my skin crawl and I need to be me again.

Ciao!

How lovely for you.

morningpaper · 17/02/2010 13:15

DD was re-admitted this morning as the infection is spreading

I know there are lots more things to try... but basically I am starting to shit myself

serenity · 17/02/2010 13:19

I'm sorry to hear this MP Has she been admitted where you are?

Anguis · 17/02/2010 13:19

So sorry to hear this MP. Is she in a hospital near you, or in London again? Do they know what the infection is?

My nephew had awful illness as a result of bacterial infection of his severe excema. He recovered very well.

morningpaper · 17/02/2010 13:22

admitted to the hospital by us, which is good

she has confirmed Hand Foot and Mouth - will she be in isolation or on the ward do you think?

The bacaterial infection is so far unknown - the swab result has not come back.

Anguis · 17/02/2010 13:23

Is it a question of trying one anti-bio after another until they find the one that does the job?

JustAnotherManicMummy · 17/02/2010 13:26

Thinking of you MP. Is there anything we can do? Get some shopping delivered or something?

Tell us what you need.

morningpaper · 17/02/2010 13:27

I don't really need anything, I just want my dd all better

largeginandtonic · 17/02/2010 13:30

Oh no MP. I hope she is ok.

Massive doses of antibiotics iv should help.

Fingers crossed for her.

Buda · 17/02/2010 13:31

Oh no MP. How worrying. I am sorry.

However - she is in the best place. Much better to be in hospital where they can chuck all sorts of antibs at her.

I am off to Dublin later - 4 trip in as many weeks due to ill parents. Have finally managed to get internet at my Dad's so will be checking in for news.

Hassled · 17/02/2010 13:31

Oh I'm so sorry - what a bloody nightmare you've had. It sounds like you've been very on the ball, acting quickly etc. - all you can do is tell yourself she's in the best place for now and they will sort her out.

Will be thinking of you.

cluckyduck · 17/02/2010 13:33

Oh Morningpaper - I am so sorry to read this thread. My son was in PICU over xmas so I know how scary it is. One of the mums there gave me a teddy-bear sewing kit, just to keep my hands busy (as I was freaking out a LOT) I know it wont make you feel any better, but would anything like that help? Just to keep your hands busy, something mundane to think about etc

Sorry, I know its a fairly rubbish suggestion

Thinking of you all

serenity · 17/02/2010 13:34

When DS2 had Hand, Foot and Mouth we were never told to isolate him (still went to Toddlers) but obviously a hospital is different.

morningpaper · 17/02/2010 13:34

thanks all

Cluckyduck I AM freaking out a lot but think I am going to have a housework plurge now in a similar vein...

Have got a chicken in the oven that I was roasting for her lunch which is now making me feel sad

Tillyscoutsmum · 17/02/2010 13:35

Your poor DD Thinking of you all

megonthemoon · 17/02/2010 13:35

Thinking of you mp.

I work for a pharma company - and despite all the scares about resistance and MRSA, my experience is that antibiotics are generally bloody brilliant at knocking things out of your system provided they match the right ab with the right infection as different ones are better for different things. I am sure it is just that they need to find the most appropriate ab for your DD's infection - so it's good that they are taking swabs etc. as that will help them pinpoint exactly what to use rather than it being trial and error.

FWIW I had a horribly infected insect bite a couple of years ago. My whole lower leg, from ankle to knee, swelled and turned purple within 3 days. The doctors gave me antibiotics and within a day it was receding and I was right as rain within a week. The quick spread of an infection can be scary, but the abs can work almost as quickly at halting and reversing it.

Best wishes to you and your family.
