family changing rooms and nakedness......

i took dd and ds swimming the other day and spotted a family changing room which was good because ds is too young to go himself and i wouldnt want him to. Anyway obviously there were other families mummys and daddys etc in there and showers and changing cubicles etc. well after swimming i jumped into the showers with the kids and focusing on my business when i turned around and noticed the women next to me was innocently showering but completely naked. Anyway i came out of the shower to get my bits on the bench and the womens husband was also completely naked he's the oblivious to anyone else giving hiself a good old towel rub as if he were in his own bathroom at home.

Well i didnt know where to look or what to make of it tbh.Part of me thought well good on them for not being shy about their bodies but then i felt uncomfortable with another mans bits on show right next to me. Dd was mortified and so i quickly hushed them into the changing cubicles. I know its is hard to matain your modesty when getting changed but surely it can't be right to have it on display in a family area? what do you think?

When did she put them on the bench? Or is she going to put them on the bench after shwoering? Do they detatch? Must they be dried seperately and is it entirely sanitary ? I don't even want to contemplate the theft threat - can you imagine the insurance forms?

I was going to try and comment in a "well if you want me to respect your wishes not to see nakedness then i expect you to respect my wishes to not to have to tie myself in knots trying to dry myself at the same time as keeping my ample bosom/arse/fanjo covered up with a measly hand towel" but I got side tracked by detachable bits and wondered if the best thing would be if we all have tiny detachable boobs/arse/fanjo/moobs/todgers as appropriate that we could wear purely for swimming purposes so we can all do aforementioned towel contortioning without anyone seeing a scrap of flesh then the OP would have nothing to be horrified about.

It's a swimming pool. People are taking off skimpy lycra, washing and putting on less skimpy (we hope) clothes. Somewhere along the way, towels will slip, bits of flesh will be revealed. You've got to expect it, but you don't have to look at it.

(I speak as someone who is a bit of a naturist at heart and has been known to strip naked on beaches when 6 months pregnant, so hell I probably was the woman in the shower )

I think it's quite bizarre to have signs up saying not to shower naked. I hate the current trend for pools to have poolside showers only, I want to have a proper wash afterwards, not to have to go home and wash again, what a waste of water.

It's the complete opposite to Scandinavian countries where it is compulsory to shower (in the communal showers) and wash naked before you get in the pool. They even provide a diagram that shows which bits to concentrate on washing :-)

Scandinavians who come over here think we're disgusting for not showering before getting in the pool.

Having said that, it's still separate male and female changing.

There is certainly a problem with naked bodies in the UK.

Go to germany and swim suits are frowned upon in some pools...let alons the changing areas

I'd love detachable bits! I would have huge tits down to my ankles for swimming (no need for swimming aids see?) and a huge hairy muff for frightening small children with and prudes.

I personally wouldn't have too much of a problem. This was a family unisex changing room after all.

I see the threads moved on haha however I went swimming the other day and the cubicles were all full of school girls, so I had to get changed in the communal bit, twasn't fun lol just wrapped my towel round me at the more naked bits.

Modesty isn't just about you not wanting to be seen: tis about respect for other people.

Im all for showering naked in the swimming pool and changing naked providing they provide separate male/female changing and showers and shower cubicles.

This thread reminds me of when dh took ds aged 3 swimming for the first time.
