family changing rooms and nakedness......

i took dd and ds swimming the other day and spotted a family changing room which was good because ds is too young to go himself and i wouldnt want him to. Anyway obviously there were other families mummys and daddys etc in there and showers and changing cubicles etc. well after swimming i jumped into the showers with the kids and focusing on my business when i turned around and noticed the women next to me was innocently showering but completely naked. Anyway i came out of the shower to get my bits on the bench and the womens husband was also completely naked he's the oblivious to anyone else giving hiself a good old towel rub as if he were in his own bathroom at home.

Well i didnt know where to look or what to make of it tbh.Part of me thought well good on them for not being shy about their bodies but then i felt uncomfortable with another mans bits on show right next to me. Dd was mortified and so i quickly hushed them into the changing cubicles. I know its is hard to matain your modesty when getting changed but surely it can't be right to have it on display in a family area? what do you think?

"it isn't the norm in thsi country to be neckid. i think they were ponces showing how scandanavian they are "

I have yet to see a MIXED changing room in Norway, that is for sure...

Rhubarb · 10/02/2010 16:16

I like to in all hairy so bits of my hairy muff stick out from the sides of my cossie.

Hullygully · 10/02/2010 16:19

The images conjured up by "I like to in all hairy"....

I think the showers after are the best bit. I wait till there are lots of dads and then cover myself in shower foam and rub it all over my deeply personal bits while humming "love to love you baby."

That sorts the sheep from the goats.

Chillohippi · 10/02/2010 16:23

Hully I should have known that it was a MNer when I saw you in the shower!

Rhubarb · 10/02/2010 16:24

I forgot the word 'go' obviously!

I like to ask the dads to soap my back for me whilst I twiddle my nipples in front of their wives...

phokoje · 10/02/2010 16:24

mwhahahahahahaha!!!!

hullygully have just snorted tea out my nose

pigletmania · 10/02/2010 16:26

Chillohippi at swinging cocks and huggygully at swinging your breastulences. I personally dont mind espcially if a guy is there swinging his big cock in the shower but other people might not like it, though i personally would use a cubicle and shower with my cossie on or in a cubicle shower like our new simming pool has.

thedollshouse · 10/02/2010 16:27

Ooh Rhubarb you are "modern" as my mum would say.

pigletmania · 10/02/2010 16:31

I remember going swimming when i was about 7 and eyeing up the mens packages in their tight speedos in the 80's (out of curiosity as my parents were such prudes and i never saw them naked.P

Hullygully · 10/02/2010 16:35

I like to twiddle the wives' nipples while the dads practise DIY.

thedollshouse · 10/02/2010 16:36

I didn't see any naked males when I was growing up either. I was quite shocked to discover that penises don't have hair on them. Very relieved though.

pigletmania · 10/02/2010 16:38

I think that i would have been a bit shocked to see a real one at that age especially if they are hung like donkeys lol.

Rhubarb · 10/02/2010 16:40

I like to twiddle mens cocks whilst munching...........................................................................................a Gregg's sausage roll, naturally.

Rhubarb · 10/02/2010 16:41

piglet - you mean as opposed to a false one? Ooh err! I'm now wondering about your childhood!

Hullygully · 10/02/2010 16:43

Don't they get a bit squidgy in the showers?

GibbonInARibbon · 10/02/2010 16:45

nipples and cocks?

you dirty hoors

pigletmania · 10/02/2010 16:45

No Rhubarb ones covered with swimming trunks he he he. Never saw any naked males in my childhood, thats probably why i love them so much now well my dhs anyway.

pigletmania · 10/02/2010 16:46

hmmm a lovely big salami

Rhubarb · 10/02/2010 16:54

I quite like them all wet hully...

It's precisely because I have body hangups piglet that I don't want my kids to go through life never seeing a cock before. It's just a cock. You piss out of it and it's used for sex. It can't run off and attack you! Same with flanges, although most people here seem more concerned about the huge swinging cock than the hairy muff.

I'll bet those poor parents had no idea that their bits would be discussed at such length on Mumsnet!

SkaterGrrrrl · 10/02/2010 16:56

Cant get over how uptight the British are about bodeis and nudity!

I think its healthy for kids to see real naked people of every shape and size (in a non sexual context obviously, like a changing room or sauna). That way they might be able to break through the tyranny of advertising and the media pushing the message that only one kind of body is acceptable or beautiful.

Way healthier for kids to realise that real adults are every shape and size and that people can be considered beautiful even if they dont look like Page 3 girls or aftershave ads.

YABU.

SkaterGrrrrl · 10/02/2010 16:58

bodies rather.

WeddingDaze · 10/02/2010 16:58

OMG Naked people in a changing room, i hope you phoned the police...

I bet they could have done with the laugh

FFS!

Rhubarb · 10/02/2010 16:59

If he was hung like a donkey I would have marched dh over and said "Now that's what they should look like!"

WeddingDaze · 10/02/2010 17:04

PMSL Rhubarb i like your style!

5Foot5 · 10/02/2010 17:12

When DD was much younger she went to swimming lessons at a local pool. There was a "family" changing room but the sign made it clear that this was just intended for parents to change young children. Since the ladies changing rooms allowed boys up to the age of 6 we always assumed that room was for dads with daughters or slightly older boys who needed a bit of help.

Mostly I took DD in to the ladies to help her get ready. However, occasionally DH had to take her and naturally he went in to the "family" room to get her changed.

On a couple of occasions he said it had been quite embarassing because there was a girl who must have been at least 13yo, quite developed and also unaccompanied who would get herself ready in there - presumably because her younger brother was also changing for swimming. The girl's mother was usually gassing with friends in the viewing area but she must have known where her children were going to get changed. DH said he felt very uncomfortable about this and seriously wondered whether he should report it to reception.
