To just not 'get the 'daily flying' lists which include things like "Had a shower.." ?

Firstly, yes, I know IABU, but seriously, can someone explain why people make these long lists of things which include "put the dishwasher on" or "ate breakfast" or "cleaned teeth" as if they are some kind of major achievements on a to-do list?

Surely these are just things you do automatically, as part of living, non?

Surely it takes as long to type these things down, as it does to do them?

So what's the point? Seems a sort of self-delusion of leading a busy, productive lifestyle?

Isn't it all a bit, well, meh?

OP posts:

Well, yes, I have once or twice clicked on the threads in question but decided not to join because I did not want to get involved in listing and checking off the minutiae of my day. Nor do I want to read anyone else's lists of the same ilk. Ergo they are not for me. As I said before I would find a place to list one significant list item and get it done more helpful. I think where you have gone wrong Chablis is in questioning the modus operandi of your fellow mumsnetters who have a different approach.

bibbitybobbityhat · 08/02/2010 20:21

Oh gracious, crossed posts with Flamingo.

What have I done to annoy you?

compo · 08/02/2010 20:22

there have been other threads though saying 'why do peple feel the need to do this'

those were asked by well known mumsnetters though and were humorous
this has turned into a right slanging match

FlamingoBingo · 08/02/2010 20:23

Sorry, Bibbity. I have to say that was more directed at Chablis, but I noticed a few agreeing posts of yours and have thought a few of your recent posts on other threads to be a bit 'sharp' with other MNers. Shouldn't have dragged it here though - I apologise I was mostly cross with Chablis!

DorotheaPlenticlew · 08/02/2010 20:27

Lots of posters on this thread are not users of the fly/slatterns threads. Objections to the OP's nastiness have come from a wide range of people, not just those whose "modus operandi" she questioned.

I think where she's gone wrong is in picking on a bunch of perfectly inoffensive MNers in a deliberately hurtful manner, all the while claiming to simply be "interested". But that's just my opinion ...

PAGS FLOWERY CUNT

bibbitybobbityhat · 08/02/2010 20:30

Ah well, I guess I am giving the op the benefit of the doubt, rather than jumping on her from a great height as an easy target.

See, I knew I was too nice .

Hullygully · 08/02/2010 20:31

For Gibbon, in the interests of variety

TrinityIsFallingApart · 08/02/2010 20:32

snigger

DorotheaPlenticlew · 08/02/2010 20:33

"easy target"

How? Who has done this? Am genuinely quite surprised that you see it this way.

Seems to me the people on slatterns are more of an "easy target" really.

Anyway. Pag's flowery cunt, all.

Hullygully · 08/02/2010 20:33

Oh fuck it, back to old Paggy's floral nethers

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 08/02/2010 20:33

Dorothea - exactly.

thatsnotmymonkey · 08/02/2010 20:37

Bibbity didn't you post a while ago about how to be be less short with others and more empathetic? Or am I mistaking you for someone else? there were all these zen responses, was that you? i thought it was?

Hullygully · 08/02/2010 20:41

Bibs

thatsnotmymonkey · 08/02/2010 20:43

that's the one Hully, well done

bibbitybobbityhat · 08/02/2010 20:44

Yes, that is me, monkey, well remembered. Have I posted on here in any way that is contradictory to what I said on that thread?

bibbitybobbityhat · 08/02/2010 20:46

Rofl, hully, you are a little tinker. Funny thing is, that lady is about 10 15 years young than me and a couple of stone lighter, but I sort of look like her!

thatsnotmymonkey · 08/02/2010 20:49

Nope just checking 'twas the same one....

I cant remember the last time I got all those things done IN ONE DAY.

chegirlsgotheartburn · 08/02/2010 20:52

When I first saw these fly lady things I just thought 'bloody bonkers'

And they are in a way. You have to get past the quasi religious language and all of that stuff.

But the basics are very helpful for lots of people. The most important bit is right at the beginning. I have often been so overwhelmed by the task infront of me that I just dont do anything.

Fly says 'get up now and go an clean your sink' Sounds stooopid but makes a lot of sense. All you got to do is make a start, they call it baby steps (ick) but its true.

This sort of regime thingy is not only for people with depression but it is certainly very helpful when you are.

Not everybody cares that much if their house is a mess. Thats fine if you can live with clutter and dust. Its not a crime and its not going to hurt you or your kids.

But I really cannot cope with it. It makes me feel down and I cannot get organised if my house is a mess. That doesnt make me a stepford wife. Its just the way I function.

But lots of us who cannot cope with mess are just not naturally organised - we need help.

I have a theory that some of the most fearfully organised people with the tidiest houses are the ones who, left to it, would be the flakest on the planet. Its cos we have to try so hard.

If you have a naturally organised mind you may find it easier to ignore the inconsequensial (sp) chaos around you?

droitwichmummy · 08/02/2010 20:52

Hewasmytwin hello! I thought it was just me - have you seen the Worcestershire thread?

GibbonInARibbon · 08/02/2010 20:53

Popped back still gobsmacked at the OP and am pleased to be smiling now @ Pag's flowery cunt

The links are sublime.

thatsnotmymonkey · 08/02/2010 21:01

I am now going to

Pack bag for tomorrow
Wash dishes
wipe down sides
mop floor
clean high chair
pack lunches
lay out clothes
vacuum

I feel good writing it all down, and I love love love making lists, really get me motivated. Two fingers to you Chablis!
