Firstly, yes, I know IABU, but seriously, can someone explain why people make these long lists of things which include "put the dishwasher on" or "ate breakfast" or "cleaned teeth" as if they are some kind of major achievements on a to-do list?

Surely these are just things you do automatically, as part of living, non?

Surely it takes as long to type these things down, as it does to do them?

So what's the point? Seems a sort of self-delusion of leading a busy, productive lifestyle?

Isn't it all a bit, well, meh?

Couldn't post earlier as at work but have to respond to this for the fledgling flyers!

I haven't read each and every post so apologise if I'm going over old ground here.

For various reasons lists work for some people. Some are v detailed, some are not, some are wish lists.

Some fledglings don't post lists every day/ever. Posting lists just lets us focus on what we need to do - it really doesn't matter what we each put on them but it does make some of us feel a real sense of achievement when we can look at the list to see what has been done and get some motivation and support if we've had a bad day.

For the record, I am not aware whether any of the fledglings are depressed, I'm not, but I do have days when if it wasn't for the fact that I have advertised what I set out to do I would probably veg on the sofa and do nothing! For that reason alone, it works for me.

If you are one of those people who doesn't need motivation from others then great, I'm really pleased for you but please leave those of us who do need this support alone.

And breathe, carry on!

Having looked again at hunland the slatterns thread I can see that it is indeed an unexplained parallel universe, and best left well alone...

I had naively strayed there originally assuming that a thread under Good Housekeeping might include lists for sorting old crockery, or polishing the windows, but clearly not.
