(I shall not be here the rest of the evening to defend my honour...please keep me chaste!
and no giggling! I am pure and virtuous lady )

GibbonInARibbon · 29/01/2010 21:27

widow

Perhaps some form of employment?

Or there is always...pamphleteering..

Umami · 29/01/2010 21:32

My lord Sheikh, what dost thou in the kitchen? Cook will not be impressed if you leave imprints in the pastry again.

MadameDefarge · 29/01/2010 21:32

you fools, have you not noticed my entrepreneurial efforts in this narrative? to date I have set up a falafal stall, impressed the Prince Regent with my delicacies and have just been offered a splendid chop house in which to pursue my culinary dreams!

Think you I need to be a wife to achieve greatness? Pah!

And while I mourn Miles, I am greater than that!

Umami · 29/01/2010 21:36

Well I for one have made marriage my business! As you know, the Sheikh and I are to divorce so that I may continue to do so!

Hullygully · 29/01/2010 21:38

That is as maybe, Mimi, but you cannot tatt like I.

(And how was the singing by the mini Mimi? Still enquiring politely, despite being ignored earlier. A true lady, never mind your falafel.)

Umami · 29/01/2010 21:39

She is a prize tatter, 'tis true.

Hullygully · 29/01/2010 21:39

And what line shall I pursure? There is little call for tatting these days. Can it be a post as governess?

Perhaps you could sell MAIDEN JUICE? Dr Hully's Patent Pending MAIDEN JUICE! Made only from bone fide maidens!

Hullygully · 29/01/2010 21:42

Or I could put my experience to wider and indeed profitable use and open this Hall to other distressed married ladies. We could have a programme, perhaps Eurythmy on Thursdays and lacrosse in the spring. They could come to rest and escape their odious husbands and find sanctuary in the gentle arms of womenfolk.

And were they to need divertissement, par exemple of a Friday, why, we have a very cellar full!

Hullygully · 29/01/2010 21:44

And very true Widow, I might also patent my splendid MAIDEN JUICE, although it must needs be kept exclusive to guarantee price. I think personal recommendation only, with possibly a Papal encyclical testifying as to need.

Umami · 29/01/2010 21:44

Ooh, yes! That is a fabulous idea! Mimi can cook - this is better, surely, than a chop-house?

Hullygully · 29/01/2010 22:01

We must ask Ms Mary to design us some leaflets/pamphlets. She mayhap can take the opportunity to proselytise whilst they reside with us. We will need a name..

Oh MmeHully, many thanks for your kind interest - ds sang and danced with his classmates quite happily! which he has never ever done before.

A vindication for moving him to a small (eek, private) school in order to sort out his SN. Finally he is coming out of his shell.

Okay, Sheikhy, we've done: the drawing room, the billiard room, the large dining room, the breakfast room, the winter parlour, the summer parlour and that funny little cupboard under the main staircase. If we can convince Cook to take all the girls out to the kitchen garden to gather herbs or some such, we can probably squeeze in the kitchen and the scullery before we break our fast, and we can work through the outbuildings in the late morning.

PrincessFiorimonde · 31/01/2010 10:18

Umami, are you and the lovely Sheikh playing Cluedo?

Umami · 31/01/2010 10:21

Er.....yes...yes, Cluedo, that's it!
