to feel pity for the mum who killed her kids?

Obviously it is an unforgivable thing to do..

But sometimes when I see these parent kills kids stories, part of me nods and thinks: There for the Grace of God.

I've never been in the position where I've wanted to do something so terrible. But I have been involved in a horrible, bitter break up, been stuck in the house with a screaming child, been driven to the edge of my sanity by all the responsibility and depressive feelings...

I can see why someone, who IS of a deranged mind, who doesn't have any support can do this.

She'll get villified now and all she needed was help. Those kids were obviously well cared for, for years beforehand. When a good mum turns bad something has gone horribly wrong and it's a shame more people don't help in these situations.

MrsSantosloves2010 · 28/01/2010 10:56

YANBU - poor kids, poor woman

fernie3 · 28/01/2010 10:56

YANBU but another part of me finds it hard to understand and forgive this.

2shoes · 28/01/2010 10:57

yabu
she killed her children.
so no pity here except for them

MitchyInge · 28/01/2010 10:58

should probably wait for some facts to emerge first?

It's absolutely tragic. Imagine living with yourself after doing that.

Tragic for all family members, including the father and the older children.

I don't know because when the story breaks of a man doing it everyone is baying for his blood so I can't really understand why we should all feel sorry for a woman who decides to kill her children.

ImSoNotTelling · 28/01/2010 11:00

comewhinewithme was just about to post that.

When I saw this story yesterday I was interested that my immediate gut reaction was "poor woman, she must have been terribly ill", but when I read that men have done this I immediately think "what a total bastard".

thedollshouse · 28/01/2010 11:01

I agree with 2shoes and MitchyInge. How can you possibly feel sympathy for her when you are not in possession of the full facts.

There are double standards applied when it comes to parents killing their children. When a father kills his children there are cries of "hang the bastard". Men can have mental health problems too.

Tragic story.

Nancy66 · 28/01/2010 11:03

without knowing the story it's hard to judge.

But I'm struggling to feel much sympathy at the moment. Bizarre thing to say but I think I would feel more sympathy if she had also killed herself.

ToccataAndFudge · 28/01/2010 11:03

Comewhinewithme - those are my exact thoughts as well.

MrsSantosloves2010 · 28/01/2010 11:03

Isn't it much much rarer for a woman to do this? And an average of 2 women a week are killed by their partner/X?

PuzzleRocks · 28/01/2010 11:03

What comewhinewithme said.

pagwatch · 28/01/2010 11:03

given thatthere are no facts available it is astonishing to me that, ascomewhinewithme says, the woman inthis case is the object of sympathy when a man in this situation would have been pretty much hung on here by now.

We know nothing.
I can't believe why people attribute guilt or blame when no info is available yet.
Talk about knee jerk....

Comewhinewithme · 28/01/2010 11:05

Double standards? .

There are no excuses in any circumstances.

Sparklyblue · 28/01/2010 11:07

YABVU.

I cannot feel any pity for this woman.
We nuture our children in the womb for 9 months, give birth to them and then love and protect them from harm.
This woman is a freak of nature.

thedollshouse · 28/01/2010 11:07

Why the ? I agree with you.

Comewhinewithme · 28/01/2010 11:09

I wasn't aiming it anyone TDH I was just generally ing.

Northernlurker · 28/01/2010 11:09

'She'll get villified now and all she needed was help.'

Well yes - but we don't apply that same reasoning to men who kill their kids. They just get villified.

This is a tragedy - but that doesn't mean persons involved avoid culpability.

MrsSantosloves2010 - not quite as rare as some people would like to think.
