Here

It's just so annoying - would people really buy this. The "boys" version is your typical type of globe - it's worse than the pink vets costume.

that's hideous! Pink vets' costume? I do wonder who buys this stuff.

TheCrackFox · 18/01/2010 17:15

YANBU

What sort of idiot would buy it?

borderslass · 18/01/2010 17:17

bloody awful a globe is educational so the seas/oceans are supposed to be blue. The whole girl's have pink theme's gone to far on this one.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 18/01/2010 17:17

Surely girls don't need to know about the world and all that boring stuff, anyway. They'll be too busy dieting and painting their nails.

porcamiseria · 18/01/2010 17:18

sweet jesus, who the fuck designs this SHIT

reikizen · 18/01/2010 17:19

oh christ. How depressing

Sassybeast · 18/01/2010 17:20

Want one

MrsMattie · 18/01/2010 17:20

YANBU. That is horrendous. I feel a MN petition coming on!

belgo · 18/01/2010 17:21

lol at sassybeast - I'm not going to let my girls see it, they'll want one!

clayre · 18/01/2010 17:22

ohhhhh thats the perfect pressie for my dd's birthday!

Sassybeast · 18/01/2010 17:26

Clayre -you do know that if you buy one you'll be sentancing your girls to a lifetime of subjugation to men and sexual discrimination. They'll be wanting to put on lipstick next. Or be a housewife

TigerFeet · 18/01/2010 17:27

i bought a globe for dd from elc for christmas

i had to ask in the shop as i couldn't find one

i was asked if it was for a boy or a girl ( I thought) and was shown the pink one

I bought the blue one - which is actually just a normal globe

I rather suspect dd would have preferred the pink one but tough it is horrible

Jacanne · 18/01/2010 17:28

Or they may just get confused about the colour of deserts - perhaps expecting them to be more "angel delight" in tone than they are? More dessert than desert in fact.

I like the caption underneath that says "how does this help my child?"

clayre · 18/01/2010 17:33

lol, maybe i should remove every pink item from the house, which is quite a lot as i am a huge fan of pink!

TigerFeet · 18/01/2010 17:37

DD1's a huge fan of pink too.

I don't mind in principle but being of a non-pink persuasion myself I don't really get it.

I do try and draw the line somewhere though and the pink globe is so far over it that it aalmost meets itself coming back.

I am clearly joyless and a mean mother

Jacanne · 18/01/2010 17:42

I have 2 girls and they like pink and I am quite happy for them to like pink, wear pink if they want, have pink in their bedroom. I just think that producing pink versions of things that shouldn't be pink (like globes, sand, vet uniforms, batteries - I was actually asked if I wanted pink ones once - for example) is just taking it too far.

Hello
I work at ELC (though am currently on maternity leave) and have noticed we have brought out our new Gardening range for the spring/summer season and it is now in generic red and green colours. Im hoping this means we are dropping the pink/blue colourways on the other ranges.

shallishanti · 18/01/2010 17:55

that is truly apalling
and pink batteries?????

thank goodness my dds are too old for this nonsense

TheFoosa · 18/01/2010 18:01

there must be 1000's of threads about that globe

I don't care what colour it is

megapixels · 18/01/2010 18:09

Oh I expected something horrible when I saw the first few reactions.

Wait a minute, why are the oceans in pink??

belgo · 18/01/2010 18:11

exactly megapixals! It's very appealing to pink loving little girls, very pretty in a way, and that's the problem!

Pink oceans is just so wrong.

shonaspurtle · 18/01/2010 18:16

I saw this in our local ELC yesterday. My main problem with it is it just doesn't work very well as a colour scheme.

Because it all has to be sodding pink there's very little contrast between the pink oceans and the pink continents. So it's fine as a pretty pink light for your child's room, but rubbish to use as an actual globe.

You could probably get a pink plastic night light for less than £18.

megapixels · 18/01/2010 18:21

Yeah, it does look more like an ornament for a pink-themed girl's room rather than a functional toy that they can learn something from.

BadGardener · 18/01/2010 18:29

Does it have proper countries on, or is it, like 'Fairyland', 'Princessland', capital 'Handbagville'?
