WasIBU to change my DS's nappy in seat on plane...

rather than the 2 inches allowed in aeroplane loos.
Okay first thread but, I recently went to Cyprus with DP, DS and DP's family (oh, it seems like light years ago). On the way out I checked out the loo on the plane and decided not to change DS's nappy there as there is no room. He's nearly 1yo and honestly there is no space for it. Anyway, no one said anything on journey, I thought nothing of it.

On the way back the plane was practically empty, loads of room, DS slept like the baby he is and then needed a nappy change, so I did it on the seat again. When I took nappy to loo to bin, I was given a right old lecture by head hostess - unhygienic, have to serve food, perfectly adequate facilities in loo etc. I said that they weren't adequate and if I couldn't safely do it loo, what was I supposed to do. No answer just severe looks.

After telling DP he did the next nappy change in loo. Turbulence meant that DS nearly fell off table and DP agreed that the facilities were far from adequate for a bigger baby.

Anyway, what I want to know is your thoughts - was I UR for changing DS in seats? Or was head hostess UR for making a fuss (no-one had on my outward journey)? Or should planes have proper baby changing facilities to make it all safe and hygienic?

Dr once told me that fever is NEVER part of teething (might get hot spot on cheek, but not hot brow/actual high temp). We were booked to fly to family for Xmas, but DH and I chose not to go at last minute (very unhappy grandparents, we felt rotten, and lost £600) because DS has had a run of croup and chest infections this autumn/winter, and we just felt the risk of him catching something was too high, he seems very susceptible to chest infections and there's a lot of them hanging around just now.

hellabell, that is useful to know, cos his temp was extremely high (39.4 at one point) yesterday but no other symptoms NHS direct said it could be teething or fighting off a bug. I think he is fighting off something and was a lot better today. Useful to know that teething does not cause fever.

That is v high temp, I would not think it teething! (but I'm not a medic). DS's temp was 39 at some point, and GP told me he was at risk of febrile convulsion then; it didn't happen but it did have me panicking for a bit! She also told me that temp would often peak in evenings; we dosed with ibuprofen and gave frequent drinks, even through night. Glad your DS is better, it's always a worry when they're poorly.

nancydrewrocks please don't assume that you know my viewpoint on the issue when I clearly didn't give my viewpoint on the issue of whether or not is unreasonable to change nappies outwith the toilets. My point was to another poster who was asking what the relevance of the state of the toilet floor was.

Quite frankly, I've never tried to change a nappy on a plane as my baby isn't due for another 5 weeks so I'm not going to wade in with my opinion on this until I've walked a mile in some of these people's shoes.

I have however flown all round the world on both business and pleasure and I still think the most annoying and anti-social thing you can find on an aircraft is people who constantly kick and shove the back of your seat which can disturb you for an entire flight whereas surely a nappy change, whether you agree or disagree with the location of it, is going to be over quicker than the time it would take you to alert a stewardess and complain about it.

Only read the OP but I don't think you were unreasonable.

Would I be unreasonable to change a WET nappy on my lap on a bus, plane or train?
