for a fortnight at Christmas and for them to have come back having gained a huge new Abercrombie & Fitch wardrobe and 4kgs apiece?

kids being distraught at a little bit of weight gain after a holiday sounds very worrying.

What awful self esteem they must have.

Most normal 12 and 15 year olds would barely notice.

No doubt they are terrified that their shallow weight obsessed step mother will start commenting on it the minute they get back.

Perhaps they put the weight on on holiday because they relaxed

If my imagination is running wild, it's because, through what you are posting, you are coming across as a complete and utter mad woman full of bitterness and hatred.

scottishmummy · 06/01/2010 21:22

their mum is clearly a great cook, lots of bonhomie and no one forced them to eat they obviously loved it,and her.

Bonsoir · 06/01/2010 21:22

He'll get an eating disorder if he carries around extra weight and fails to lose it, not if he loses it quickly and can forget the whole sorry incident.

IsThatTheTime · 06/01/2010 21:22

Bet they're thrilled about their half term weigh in. What happens if they haven't hit their target weight? Is it half term boot camp?

Are you MENTAL?

TidyBush · 06/01/2010 21:22

So you haven't said a thing but the poor kids been given a deadline to lose weight with weekly weight ins

Just how much do you (or your DP) want to screw up this poor lad's body image?

SoupDragon · 06/01/2010 21:23

"DP has told him he has to lose it by the Feb half-term (five weeks from now) and will do weekly weigh ins to check."

That is appalling and shocking parenting. your DP should be utterly ashamed of himself.

coppertop · 06/01/2010 21:23

"DP has told him he has to lose it by the Feb half-term (five weeks from now) and will do weekly weigh ins to check."

This is one of those threads where you sincerely hope it's a wind-up but have an awful feeling that it's not.

It reminds me a little of Lavender's threads where she was convinced that she and her dp were completely sane and rational.

Bonsoir · 06/01/2010 21:23

Ha ha ha their mother cannot cook anything - they ate out all holidays. That's a large part of the problem.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 06/01/2010 21:24

No, what your DP is doing is the way to give your DSS an eating disorder.

HerBeatitude · 06/01/2010 21:24

Your DP sounds like a total bastard quite frankly.

This is a terrible way to treat a child.

You are setting him up for a really bad relationship with food. There is NO NEED to stress about weight gained on holiday, FGS I am 43 years old, I gained weight at Christmas and I know it will all be gone by the end of Jan as I return to normal eating and stop eating mince pies for breakfast. A teenager who is doing sport and eating normally again, will lose it easily.

Ingles2 · 06/01/2010 21:24

Can you honestly not see that your Dp is trying to control any effect their mother has?
They've put on some weight with her, so he has to eradicate all evidence of this...
This is deeply shocking, disturbing and I'm disgusted with you for allowing this

Georgimama · 06/01/2010 21:24

"DP has told him he has to lose it by the Feb half-term (five weeks from now) and will do weekly weigh ins to check."

If I were the exw I'd be applying for 100% residency on the basis of that. Ridiculous. Everyone knows that even if a child is overweight (which I refuse to believe he is, as I previously stated 9 stone is between 50th and 75th centile for a 15 year old) you stabilise the weight so that they grow height wise into the weight. You don't try to reduce the weight of a growing child.

muffymk · 06/01/2010 21:24

PMSL

Sorry but this has to be the funniest thread ever!!! (but i havent been a member long)

Mad as a box of frogs!!! -oops

scottishmummy · 06/01/2010 21:25

maybe being free from such austere and judgemental environment, they cut loose ate spontaneously, had fun.before returning to tuts and gloomy warnings about ulcers

Strix · 06/01/2010 21:25

Actually, I think the DP is as much to blame. He clearly also has some food issues.

LibrasBiscuitsOfFortune · 06/01/2010 21:25

"DP has told him he has to lose it by the Feb half-term (five weeks from now) and will do weekly weigh ins to check."

omg until now I have just regarded this thread with amusement but this is horrendous, your DP is being a complete twat.

Longtalljosie · 06/01/2010 21:26

Anna - it's half a fricking stone! It is nothing!

And no - he will not get an eating disorder if he is carrying an extra half stone. How did you even notice? Did you march them to the weighing scales the second they got home?

TheFallenMadonna · 06/01/2010 21:26

You know sometimes Bonsoir, your DP does not come out well in your posts. Are there any consequences to not meeting his ultimatum?

SoupDragon · 06/01/2010 21:26

Please tell me why, since the mother is so useless, incompetent and a terrible mother, why your DP doesn't just go for full custody/residency instead of behaving like a bully and threatening her with it?

HerBeatitude · 06/01/2010 21:26

There is no problem Anna.

Teenagers put on weight wwhen they over-indulge, then lose it when they get back to normal.

People develop weight problems as a result of obsessive dieting.

Ingles2 · 06/01/2010 21:26

how do you know Anna?
Really?
come on explain exactly how you know their mother can cook nothing ?
Is it becasue you've had countless meals lvingly prepared by her?
or is because that's what your dp has told you?
or the boys?
FFS people eat out on holiday that is the bloody point!

Strix · 06/01/2010 21:27

It is normal for a person'd weight to fluctuate. It is not normal for it to remain always constant.

Bonsoir · 06/01/2010 21:27

DSS2 does not lose weight easily (DSS1 can do). He overeats/gains weight very easily indeed - and he knows that at our house/on holiday with us he never puts on weight and that there is always a risk with his mother. He is perfectly well aware of all of this. Why not?

OP posts:
WorzselMummage · 06/01/2010 21:27

Your Dp sounds like a twat.

Those poor boys are prime candedates for an eating disorder.

4lb extra is a lot healthier than stavting yourself to death.
