And more to the point, queueing through the night to wait for the shops to open.

Next/Debenhams/many other sales start tomorrow

I just can't believe that anything is that great that people are prepared to go to such lengths..

given that you can get most of the stuff in online anyway it is ridic

emkana · 25/12/2009 21:59

yanbu

frankly it makes me quite sad to think that people have nothing better to do with their time than go and shop again

Southwind · 25/12/2009 22:08

Meeeee, I do ....me and my sister have just had babies and it will be nice to spend some time with her.....havent shopped for ages.

Certainly wont be queueing through the night though just popping down to our local Next at 7am to buy the babies some clothes, and we are going that early coz the OH's can only cope with sleeping babies LOL

Online Next sale is rubbish, you get the best stuff in store first thing.

Enjoy your lie-ins everyone

sherby · 25/12/2009 22:09

I must be missing something because the baby clothes in our next look like the same baby clothes you could get anywhere, why go get them at 7am!

expatinscotland · 25/12/2009 22:11

I can barely get out of a bed before 7 at all.

Southwind · 25/12/2009 22:15

I will be up at 6:00 feeding anyway....once Im up, Im up.....

wannaBe · 25/12/2009 22:18

"it will be nice to spend some time with her.....havent shopped for ages." Can't imagine how fighting one's way through the shop door, rifling through the racks and racks and racks of clothes trying to find one or two things worth buying and then queuing for a minimum of 45 minutes to pay for it could every be considered to be "spending time" with someone or a pleasurable experience.

When ds was tiny DH did go down to next two years running and bought some baby clothes. He used to go down at about eight, but next is within walking distance of our house. He did get a few things but said it was a hideous experience..

NEXT is just a hideous experience any time, IMO.

wannaBe · 25/12/2009 22:26

couldn't agree more. It's the one shop in the retail park near us that I avoid going to alone because their help is just totally rubbish.

YABU.
You can get loads of bargains that do add upo when you're on a budget. Some people like the thrill of a sale.

Although I am opting for the online option due to being pregnant, grumpy and lazy.

expatinscotland · 25/12/2009 22:29

i see i'm not the only one.

last time i went there, about a year ago, i was trying to find shoes for dd1, and although there were several staff members there and hardly any customers, no one came round.

so we bought them elsewhere.

WannaBe - our local Next is honestly never like that, I just walk in, no queues, take a bag from the smiley greeting lady, go to the baby section, pick up everything in my babies size and then if I dont like anything I will take it out of my bag in the queue which also isnt too bad.....but while in the queue, I catch up on all the goss with my sis.....I personally love it

cece · 25/12/2009 22:49

Me! My favourite part of Christmas is going to the Sales. I love it when they open the shop and everyone runs in! Even if I don't buy anything, it's just great fun.

LynetteScavo · 25/12/2009 22:57

Southwind...you must live somewhre posh. I've noticed there are no ques at Next sales in posh places.

cece · 25/12/2009 22:59

Oh well I don't go to Next - can never find anything I want to buy in there. I am planning Debenhams tomorrow... as my first port of call.

Smithagain · 25/12/2009 23:03

Next emailed me to encourage me to come to their sale. I replied to their customer services dept expressing my disgust at the fact they are open at all. Their reply has been to unsubscribe me from their system - so presumably they aren't too interested in having feedback ..... just money, and the sweat of their workforce

GoddessRidingSantasSleigh · 25/12/2009 23:06

if i had the money i would definitely be going to my local next, they have everything for £2! TWO POUNDS an item ladies!! but i am poor after xmas and have my car tax and insurance to pay by dec 31

YanknChristmasCrackers · 25/12/2009 23:09

I don't like shopping even when shops are quiet, so pushing through loads of people and racks of clothes at 7am is my idea of the 7th circle of hell.

pigletmania · 25/12/2009 23:20

Nah I m in bed total madness imo, go shop later.

andirobobo · 25/12/2009 23:26

I do not visit shops on Boxing Day in a sort of revolt against the poor staff who have to work and have had a shit christmas. This includes my DH who works in a large retail store. He worked late in 23rd Dec after hours to get the sale in for Christmas Eve and has spent today being knackered and fed up and unable to drink too much as he has a 20 mile trip to work at 7.30am and doesnt want to be stopped by the police.

So I dont go shopping at all on Boxing Day and certainly wouldnt be that desparate of a bargain to be standing in a queue outside Next, Debenhams or the like!

famishedass · 25/12/2009 23:42

spare a thought for the poor next employees who have to be in work at 5am on boxing day or be sacked. They have been treated disgracefully by management. They worked until 5 or 6 on xmas eve for God's sake.

AND

they always used to get their taxi to work paid for on boxing now but this year that has been stopped. If you don't drive, you can't take public transport at 5am on boxing day coz their isn't any, so staff HAVE to pay for a taxi, wiping out the minimum wage they would have earned probably.

No, i wan't be going to the shops tomorrow, I feel sorry for the retail staff.

tethersjinglebellend · 25/12/2009 23:53

famishedass, that's terrible.

As if NEXT wasn't shit enough as it is... another reason not to go in there.

Meglet · 26/12/2009 00:14

I would rather stick pins in my eyes than spend Boxing Day shopping.

TigerDrivesAgain · 26/12/2009 00:18

oh Meglet you just pinched my post
