and said errr your a girl your a ballerina because he was dancing to mary poppins at mil's........ He was really upset and just sat down and didn't want to get up and play anymore..... she is a twat.....

It was her pfb 1st birthday party and she really made him feel stupid... I love it when he dances and he has said to me and his dad that he would like to start dancing classes, but then because someone at nursery had told him that dancing classes are for girls he changed his mind. Then she just makes it so he feels stupid even dancing in front of us and the rest of his family.

I just told him well you can dance better than your aunite anyway, I think your dancing was great, but he was still quite upset.

YANBU, what a cow!!!

My nephew is always dancing around to songs from Oliver! I think its so cute. Perhaps she didn't want the limelight taken away from her PFB.

SlartyBartFast · 23/12/2009 09:00

how horrible of her
on your behalf.

did she look embarrassed when she realised how upset he was?

QandA · 23/12/2009 09:01

Your Sil sounds delightful

With family like that....

GossipMonger · 23/12/2009 09:02

This makes me so cross

Have no words for you at all but I know how you feel

I was working in the school nursery for a few weeks before the end of term and a little boy, Archie 3yrs, dressed up as a blue mermaid with pink ballet shoes.

He comes from a real hardnut sort of family who would never have let him dress up like that at home and it was lovely to just let him 'be'. No one laughed at him and he was so happy.

for your ds

HumphreyCobbler · 23/12/2009 09:04

what a shit thing to say
Your poor little boy

Pineapplechunks · 23/12/2009 09:04

What a bitch.

Poor DS. Take him home and a have a big ol' danceathon, put on some cheesy music-really loud and dance with him and tell him she was being a misery guts because she can't dance as well as him.

She really didn't care that he was upset, she just hates it when anyone pays any attention to our dc's and not her ds.

Someone asked me at hthe party what size clothes/shoes dd was in (so they could get her an outfit for xmas) so I said 9-12 clothes and size 3 1/2 shoe.... she then butted in saying well my ds is 4 months younger and he is in size 12-18 and size 4 1/2 shoes..... I never knew that clothing and shoe size was a competition??

OP posts:
SlartyBartFast · 23/12/2009 09:07

all thigns are a competition with some people.

good idea at tellingn him she can't dance.
encourage his dancing.

didnt billy elliott make any difference at all?

Poshpaws · 23/12/2009 09:07

This really annoys me.

DS2 (4.5) loves nothing better than dressing up as a princess and so does DS3 (2.5). They love dancing as well.

DS1 is always dancing and singing. He did a street dance course when he was about 5. Would your DS like something like that?

Anyway, does not matter what type of dancing he wants to do - my brother is a qualified dance choreographer and director at college and has been dancing (all types) since the age of 12. Tell SIL to think of all the great male dancers (Gene Kelly, Rudolf Nureyev, etc). Then tell her to shove her opinions

There is no excuse for belittling a child. Whatsoever.

YANBU.

Get on to You Tube and find lots of videos of men/boys dancing.

edam · 23/12/2009 09:13

Your SIL is a right cow - poor ds. Suggest you get some DVDs of musicals and show him that men and boys dance.

Oblomov · 23/12/2009 09:14

sil is stupid.
makes me cross this kind of thing.
ds(5) loves the YMCA, Queen 'we will rock you' and 'Rudolph'.

RainRainGoAway · 23/12/2009 09:15

My DS does the best Rhumba infront of Strictly Come I have ever seen. He is like a tiny Ola (except minus the boobs etc)

She is an arse. And WTF with the clothes comparing. Next time she says anything like that I would say 'If you put my child down like that again, we are going to have serious problems about meeting with you again.'

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 23/12/2009 09:17

Youtube 'stomp' they are very manly dancers! And who were that group who won britain's got talent? There are loads of very butch dancing men.

bogie · 23/12/2009 09:22

rainrain - She is still living at MIL's and I doubt she will move anytime soon so we have no way of cutting off contact unless we stop the dc's seeing MIL.
A few weeks ago we asked if mil would just pop round and look after the dc's at our house for a couple of hours while me and dp went to see Micheal Mcintyre... and when she turned up she has sil and her ds with her? I said oh why have you all come and SIL said well you don't expect us to sit at home on our own do you?!?!? of course I fucking did No I suppose not

What a total bitch!!! Obviously very very jealous over the attention that your DS was getting. I hate it when people say things like this to boys. I am going to see Diversity soon. I think they are fantastic and such great role models for children. Show your son them and how popular they are!

bellissima · 23/12/2009 09:39

She sounds like a four year old herself. YANBU.

RainRainGoAway · 23/12/2009 09:39

Your poor MIL bogie... Just think of the sheer hell she has to go through living with your SIL. She may need another sherry to get her through Xmas.

RainRainGoAway · 23/12/2009 09:40

Was Micheal Mcintyre good?

BornToFolk · 23/12/2009 09:57

She must have really low self-esteem if she gets her kicks by putting down a four year old.

biggirlsdontcry · 23/12/2009 09:58

she sounds like a jealous cow tbh , for your ds though , my sil is like yours , compares everything about our dc's , and no matter how much money we spend on her dc's Christmas presents (she has 5 dc's so we budget £20 per child) she will phone us up to tell us that someone her dc's hardly know spent more on her dc's .
rise above it op & encourage your ds in dancing

ilovesprouts · 23/12/2009 10:01

take no notice of her
