to exclude the very elderly from my wedding

I am getting married for the first time the spring after next and am so excited! I have not been married before although my df has been married twice before, and so am possibly being a bit bridezilla about it, but we have chosen our venue and menus, band, outfits etc and it comes to so much money that we are going to have to restrict guests.

I know people are anti excluding children, and I can sort of see that, but what about the really old? Not horribly, but just because a lot of our relatives don't really know where they are IYKWIM and wouldn't really benefit from it. AIBU?

Thank you Chicken. You see, I do feel that too - it is MY day it really is the one day of my life that's all about me and I do want to be a special sort of shiny star in it, not worrying about Great Auntie Denise and the gravy like at my sister's wedding. Great Auntie Denise has a zimmer too and they are just so ugly (sorry but it's true!!!!!!)

Paggy, I think you can get help for that. Or take up charity good works. Just ask, darling, you don't have to live in a twilit haze. Choose life!!!!!!!

You say that as if it is a bad thing. Who are you to judge until you have walked a little in my Louboutins [hrrumph]

I do feel your pain though hun. At my wedding several people turned up....

badly dressed

TisTheSeasonToBeHully · 22/12/2009 13:21

Don't get me started on the dress code. There have been rumours of unhappiness and dissent - but as I keep saying, just who is this day about? Hmmmm? Yeah, ME!!!!!!!!!

But that is a whole other thread.

Hully, if your so-called 'guests' are being this rude, perhaps you should uninvite them all and just hire some beautiful people to look good in the pics? Not too beautiful, of course, but maybe with faces which compliment your own? Just an idea, hun x

TisTheSeasonToBeHully · 22/12/2009 13:25

Offer surgery, do you mean? Hmmmm.

don't bother darling. Your dp is not likley to hang around for long so I'd save your money!

TisTheSeasonToBeHully · 22/12/2009 13:31

I'm so sorry, Romany, what are you infibulating?

oh ignore her she's just being mean
I completely agree, the well chosen guest should complement your style in face, make up, hair and clothes. Maybe have some X factor style auditions to select your guests. Make sure you do this well in advance of the day, and make them sign a contract stating that they won't put on/lose weight, have any surgery or engage in any dangerous sports which may temporarily or permanently spoil their good looks. Pay double if you expect them to be bridesmaids / best man / mother of the bride / groom

ITS YOUR WEDDING
Invite or don't invite who you like

Hassled · 22/12/2009 14:46

I agree completely that the wedding should be all about you. As long as it's also all about your DF's Ukrainian heritage. I've been googling furiously on your behalf and think I've found the ideal wedding fascinator.

ChickensHaveNoTinsel · 22/12/2009 14:51

I can't see the fascinator, and I need to.

GrumpyWhenWoken · 22/12/2009 14:55

have you made sure there are no FAT people too? They eat so much more than everyone else... worth a thought

Hassled · 22/12/2009 14:56

Here?

BouncingTurtle · 22/12/2009 15:03

I banned ginger people from my wedding. I thought their hair would clash with the colour scheme I chose.

I did think about banning anyone with the same hair colour as well as any woman who was taller than me, but then DH pointed out that there would be very few people at the wedding.

{Disclaimer - I am joking)

I do wear them but DH has to carry me. I am on a show off bingo thing here. If anyone finds all my twenty squillions refences to them I have to give them one of my children

I agree about the beautiful people thing. I had my four under 5 nieces and i looked like a toad next to them in the photos. Actually next to quite a few of the guests....

A backdrop of howlers would make one look pretty good.

ChatterClausIsComingToTown · 22/12/2009 15:15

What a mean spirited person you are. Do enjoy your first wedding. Something tells me that if your husband to be is a sensible, sensitive type then you will be onto your second wedding soon.....

GrumpyWhenWoken · 22/12/2009 15:22

here all ready to photoshop into your wedding pics

Casserole · 22/12/2009 16:05

Fascinator,
Fascinator,
It's just the way we feel. (yeah)

We love this fascinator (woh-oh, o-o-oh)
We want the ukraine fashions (woh-oh, o-o-oh)
They're like a revelation (woh-oh, o-o-oh)
We love those fascinators!

(I am available to sing at the signing of the register if required. I am aged between 30 and 35 with no obvious signs of mental deterioration, and am just the right blend of moderately attractive so as not to repulse or spoil photos but not too attractive so as to steal the show.)
