to exclude the very elderly from my wedding

I am getting married for the first time the spring after next and am so excited! I have not been married before although my df has been married twice before, and so am possibly being a bit bridezilla about it, but we have chosen our venue and menus, band, outfits etc and it comes to so much money that we are going to have to restrict guests.

I know people are anti excluding children, and I can sort of see that, but what about the really old? Not horribly, but just because a lot of our relatives don't really know where they are IYKWIM and wouldn't really benefit from it. AIBU?

I think I have entered a parallel universe where this is viewed as humorous.

RainRainGoAway · 21/12/2009 22:23

Oh thank the lord the perma-tanned-dayglo-teethed-hairplugged entertainers are here to share the festive season by making a bunch of leopards sit on enlarged stools.

LastOfTheMulledWine · 21/12/2009 22:23

hully, norty.

memoo · 21/12/2009 22:24

Hully I've had the most rubbish of days and you're the first person to make me laugh all day!

Will go to bed with a smile on my face

GrumpyWhenWoken · 21/12/2009 22:30

lol @ Terry Wongan too! I've added in the cast of Hollyoaks too, just to be more glam.

(I'm carrying on, on the assumption that this is NOT real)

GrumpyWhenWoken · 21/12/2009 22:32

but with the lion tamers and lions it's beginning to look like the Hair Bear Bunch, is that the look you're after too?

TisTheSeasonToBeHully · 21/12/2009 22:33

I am pleased to see so many smiles, after all it si a wedding!!!! But am slightly puzzled as I haven't made any jokes or wisecracks. Why does everyone think Siegfreied and Roy are funny? They are lovely men who have been through a lot and been sadly mauled.

OP, what exactly is the more gaga end of the spectrum? My beautiful, glam, very bright, once dynamoc mum is 'gaga'. - well no she's not, she has alzheimers disease. She needs help to get ready in the morning and she forgets her words, and she can't cook the most amazing christmas meal like she once used to, and she knows it, and it hurts both her and me and her family, cos I and she wants it to be like it was and she was, for her, and for her amazing husband. What she can do is love and enjoy her family and friends, and relishes these times, and enjoys parties, weddings, get togethers etc, probably just like your gaga end of the spectrum relatives. Get real.

DaisymooSteiner · 21/12/2009 22:35

Well, duh, don't play with lions if you don't want to get mauled. Fair game for a giggle if you do something that dumb.

DaisymooSteiner · 21/12/2009 22:36

Sorry, tigers. They're much the same, big tabbies with huge fecking teeth.

galletti · 21/12/2009 22:36

'dynamic'. Sorry I posted whilst extremely amgry

Hassled · 21/12/2009 22:36

I'm still getting over the revelation that Aslan has left Narnia. Can't focus on the mauling of the lycra-clad wonders.

But if you were going for the Hair Bear Bunch look, you need a celeb who looks like Penelope Pitstop. Have you given that much thought?

TisTheSeasonToBeHully · 21/12/2009 22:36

Daisy - they are professionals, they weren't playing.

galletti - you are right. That sort of thing makes me really aggrieved.

Haven't read the whole thread, but just wanted to say a heartfelt 'I agree with bran'.

I agree with bran.

tethersjinglebellend · 21/12/2009 22:55

Not sure how you'll square the whole Siegfried/Roy invite with the no geriatric theme though....

DaisymooSteiner · 21/12/2009 23:51

If you've got Siegfried and Roy coming then you could probably sell tickets to the other guests and use the proceeds to invite the poor unfortunate old folk who couldn't otherwise come.

this thread is hilarious. Although did give me a moment of anxiety in the early stages!!

ginormoboobs · 22/12/2009 09:00

Oh , it's a piss take. Not a very funny one.

porcamiseria · 22/12/2009 11:31

how many people of this ilk do you actually know!!!!????

fuck em, why not not invite anyone? cheap as chips that way

Casserole · 22/12/2009 11:40

You are so NOT thinking this through.

If you exclude them, then how will you ever build up your stock of doileys and teatowels?

At least invite them to the evening only

AccioPinotGrigio · 22/12/2009 11:41

YANBU - don't invite the elderly or the very ugly. What kind of wedding pictures do you want to end up with FFS.

GreensElves · 22/12/2009 11:42

rofl at this

you are cheering me up on a regular basis atm hully
