I am very

When I was out for a walk today I counted the number of dog poos on my street after feeling like I am constantly dodging them.

I counted six within about 100 metres! I am out with the pram and with a walking DS1 all the time and the other day he stepped in poo, it makes me so and if I see an owner allow their dog to crap all over the street I will rub their nose all over it.

AIBU? I think not.

Was this on Siddons Road in SE23, by any chance?
If not, snap!

what do guide dogs do?

AgentZigzagDoingAYuleLog · 13/12/2009 17:34

It is absolutely disgusting I agree, if I can manage an undignified scoop of my dogs shite when we're out, and I'm 37 wks preg, there's no reason the bloke who I saw pretending to go and get his dogs shit but walked off before he did it, can't.

Saying that, there's just no way of 'policing' it, or worth getting really pissed off with it cos what can you do? Yeah, you can make a cutting remark at someone who you see not picking it up, but then you risk them getting aggressive with you.

Equally as disgusting, but I do sometimes pick up other peoples dog shit if it's on the path outside our house (there's nothing worse than picking up cold shit IMO ) we've got a lot of older people on our street, and I don't want them or us to accidently step in it. You could do your neighbourhood a turn if you're feeling particularly brave?

screamingskull · 13/12/2009 17:34

I hate seeing dog poo on the street v annoying.

although i must admit its not as bad as it used to be where i live.

so lazy not too clean up after your dog.

AgentZigzagDoingAYuleLog · 13/12/2009 17:34

That is such a good question Ivy, I've never thought about that!

People just don't care. Around DS's school, I am VERY careful, but this term I have stepped in it twice as it is so hard when there are lots of leave on the ground.

I just can't understand the mentality of letting your dog crap outside a SCHOOL of all places!! 100s of kids walk through it, it's totally filthy and these people are not fit to own dogs.

OMG I don't think I could pick up another persons dog poo, it's bad enough wiping my DS's bums!

As for guide dogs, I'd imagine if they have been trained to lead a blind person about they will be trained to at least poo on the road? That would be a bit better than on the pavement anyway?

In fact I have this fantasy that all dog owners should have licences and all dogs should have their DNA in a database .

So all dog shit could be traced back and if you let your dog shit and don't clean it up 3 times, your dog could be rehomed.

PS I adore dogs, just can't stand people who let them crap everywhere!

ilikeyoursleeves · 13/12/2009 17:41

No I'm not being sarcastic. Yes I am very careful anyway, I tend to walk watching the ground all the time after several times having to scrape poo off the pram wheels . But I shouldn't have to go out for walks watching the ground should I? Not if owners pick up after their dog. There are lots of 'poo bins' about here so there is absolutely no excuse for owners to allow their dog to poo and not pick up and bin it. Or at least get the dog to poo in the gutter, not the pavement!

YANBU, someone had left the biggest pile of dog poo ever right in the middle of the path outside ds's school last week.

It's not the dogs fault i agree but the filthy owners, there was a dog shit bin right next to it as well.

DS likes to run ahead of me to school & i have to steer him away from the piles of shit. its bloody disgusting & why should people have to walk looking down at the ground?

screamingskull · 13/12/2009 17:50

another vote for oldwomans suggestion that's a great idea .

RubyRubyRuby i thought you were joking too can't believe you honestly think its up to the person walking on the path to be more careful!!

NellyTheElephant · 13/12/2009 17:52

YANBU. It actually drives me to the edge of insanity!! I have a 4yo, 2yo and 8 month old. So school run often with 2 scooters and a push chair.... The endless dog poo on the pavement is like an obstacle course. I get so irate sometimes when the girls have again scooted through a pile - they do try and look and shout to each other watch out for that poo!! But they are little and there is so much and so poor things often go through it - so pooey scooter and shoes aaarrrggggg!!

I get equally furious by the millions of people who bag it up into little nappy type bags then LEAVE the bags on the pavement... WHY????? If I was having a picnic in a park would I change my baby's nappy in the park then leave the dirty nappy in a bag on the grass????? If you have bagged it then take it to a BIN. Oh... I am all hot under the collar and cross just thinking about it!!!! We are all longing to get a dog, but not until we move out of London next year I think! If I did have a dog in London there is no way I would be as selfish as all these dog owners seem to be.

ABetaDad · 13/12/2009 17:56

I do not get why dog owners cannot put their dog in the gutter to do its business rather than let it do it right in the middle of the pavement. The gutter is literally 50 cm away how hard can it be to drag the dog into the gutter.

Been away for a day and there are now two piles each side of my gate. I know it is people who take their dog out at night and think it that because it is dark they will not be seen and just feel it is OK to walk away and leave it.

My kids are bound to step in it on their way to school. I will have to clean it up.

What is even more annoying is the people round us have such airs and graces about opposing undesirable planning permission and even trimming of overgrown trees yet think nothing about letting their dog dump on the pavement.

Disgusting people!

Vallhala · 13/12/2009 17:58

Its not just dog poo, its broken bottles, discarded cigarette packets, thrown-away crisp wrappers, humans who spit on the pavement, bubble gum... the list is endless and all are equally offensive. YANBU.

screamingskull · 13/12/2009 17:59

nelly because these are the same people, most likely, that live in a close and take the black rubbish bags down to the bin recess then leave it on top of the bin lid instead of opening it and putting the bloody bag in.

arghh drives me mad just thinking about it lol.

Ivykaty44 · 13/12/2009 18:00

the gutter is just as bad, you still get your prams wheel or cycle wheels when the poo is in the gutter then smear it all over the garage or hall floor.

DoingTheBestChristmasICan · 13/12/2009 18:02

ABetaDad you are so right, one of our neighbours has seven dogs & they always clear up after them, their dogs are very well behaved & we hardly ever hear them, then we had new neighbours move in with one dog & they take it out at night & allow it to shit in the unlit path down to the primary school.

These were the neighbours who knocked on another neighbours door & asked them to saw down their very old willow tree as it was blocking their view of the mountains behind us.

confuseddoiordonti · 13/12/2009 18:03

Of course you aren't being unreasonable, but you know that anyway.

I have a dog and always clear up and threads like this are upsetting as it makes people dislike dogs due to their owners terrible attitudes towards picking up. I too would welcome a DNA system where it could be traced back as I've been tutted at by people who've trodden in some even though it's not my dog. Shame it is very unlikely to happen though...

Please don't tar all dog owners with this brush!

whifflegarden · 13/12/2009 18:04

YANBU. I've threatened many times to set up cctv on the path outside the house to catch the culprits. It's one of those things that drives me absolutely crazy with rage

What sort of people ARE these? The number of MN members, I'm sure there must be some that do/have done this. I would really be interested to hear "your side of the story", maybe there's something I'm missing. Feel free to name change.

morleylass · 13/12/2009 18:04

I'm a dog owner and think it is totally irresponsible to leave the dog mess, I can't bear other owners who don't clear up. However I do often leave a full poo bag and pick it up on the way back, that way I don't have to carry a bag of sh*te with me for an hour or so. Saying that it is always left out of the way and as I live in the countryside probably noone will walk past it anyway.
