DD has also played "scottish dancer" in christmas play. Keep an eye on the Highland Games in years to come.

Marne · 09/12/2009 17:43

I was never Mary and i was useless at sport (never center of GK) .

Dd1 is Mary this year but is useless at sport and probably never make it to center or GK .

Mary isn't really a main role at dd's school though, narrator is the main speaking part.

I was always an Angel or sheep.

cornsilklikeshumous · 09/12/2009 17:44

wasn't even on netball team
never Mary but was an Angel once
Was once 'selected' by a (bitchy) nun to read a poem in front of the parents all about how I looked in the mirror and saw a very plain girl instead of a stunner. The older girls who were waiting to read their poems looked on at me in pity as I went up to read mine.

Hassled · 09/12/2009 17:46

I was never Mary. I was an angel once and got to wear a blue tutu. I have to say that was the highlight of my theatrical career to date.

And I was GA on the netball team. No idea what that says about me. But I did have a steady boyfriend, still referred to by my brother as Neanderthal Man, who did indeed give me padded Valentine cards.

poinsettydawg · 09/12/2009 17:47

no head girl nor prizes? What sort of screwy school was that?

cornsilklikeshumous · 09/12/2009 17:49

Hassled you were one of the 'it' girls.

EvilTwinsStoleSantasSleigh · 09/12/2009 17:52

I was Mary aged 8 but only because I was good at singing and had to do a solo bit in "Joseph is sad as he travels the way..." My crush on Joseph lasted right until my late teens.

Was GK in the netball team BUT there were fewer than 7 girls in my year at primary school so they had no choice. My best tactic was to chat to the other team's GS so she wouldn't notice if anyone threw the ball at her.

Went on to be rubbish at sport all through secondary school, so no more outings with the netball team. My school had no prefects or head girls/boys. All the girls who were good at sport had horrendous perms and were total bitches. I am still wary of sportswomen...

MrsJohnDeere · 09/12/2009 17:58

I was Mary because I was the teacher's pet, but was absolutely hopeless at netball and all sports. Always picked last for teams.

SCargot · 09/12/2009 17:58

i asked at work and they all nodded. cept one girl who is indie ish and dark was mary so that blew me theory

(then i told em the story of my mate's mate who sent herself interflora at UNive and ate chips wiht butter on in the loo at night)

Buddleja · 09/12/2009 18:09

Also a blond that was Mary - which is stupid considering the geographic location of the original Mary.

Can't recall at all about their netball position, I was one of Herod's bitches and wing defence

scrappydappydoo · 09/12/2009 18:18

Yep completely agree - it was always the popular girl who was Mary, lead in every other play/assembly, captain of all sports and clubs, straight A student and prefect and captain.
Then there was me who was always buried in the middle of a group and told to mouth the words when there was singing and was told there wasn't any point to me doing PE or sports cos I wasn't good at anything. Bitter moi??? Nooo but have massive self esteem ishoos

post · 09/12/2009 18:24

Narrator

Baffled by netball; every time I touched the ball a whistle blew and the game stopped, never worked out why.

Dh was apparently 'king of the universe'. Figures.

Hassled · 09/12/2009 18:28

Sigh. Friends Reunited tells me that Neanderthal Man is an accountant in the Home Counties now. There should be a "do you still buy padded cards?" option on there.

Cornsilk - I was a Peripheral It Girl. I had all the right friends, but was never quite there. I never wore the right sandals.

HugeBaublesWhatDidISayRoy · 09/12/2009 18:37

shepherd

goal keeper

HugeBaublesWhatDidISayRoy · 09/12/2009 18:38

DD - wise man

Goalkeeper

Poppity · 09/12/2009 19:05

I was

Mary

Goal Attack in netball

Goalkeeper in hockey

Reader almost every bloomin time in church stuff- I'm an atheist now

Prefect

No boyfriends though- prefered ponies.

DD is an angel- have we discovered what that means for her yet?

Poppity · 09/12/2009 19:09

I'm afraid I break the 'popular girl' theory though. I found school horribly intimidating and was always an oddball

PoppyIsApain · 09/12/2009 19:12

I as bloody good at centre but was never Mary at the nativity, i was either a King or a donkey and my grandma was in charge

Hulababy · 09/12/2009 19:14

I was Mary as a 5 or 6 year old, back in the 70s.

I wasn't the most popular, the most able or anything like that. My mum wasn't involved with school at all. Infact I was a very shy, timid dark haired, dark eyed little girl. I didn't go on to be top of anything, or best at anything.

My dark haired, dark eyed DD was Mary last year - again not the most capable child in her class. I have helped in school, but I am not the only one, and I am not in the PTA nor am I class rep. DD was selected to be Mary as she had a sweet singing voice and was expected to sing a solo.

She was Mary, Center, had soppy long-term boyfriend and played Eliza Doolittle in our final year play. She was also lovely (and not blond). She wasn't me.

SCargot · 09/12/2009 19:16

im sorry bt i find it hard to like a MAry.
i really do

OP posts:
Hulababy · 09/12/2009 19:17

boyfriend issue - no proper boyfriend until sixth form; just the odd kiss before that. Def nothing vaguely long term or serious. Had first proper, but not serious boyf for a month or so when first ins ixth form, then met boyfriend at Christmas who eventually became my DH - met some (almost) 20 years ago!

MadameMoe · 09/12/2009 19:17

Oh, and she was deputy head girl...
