GetOrfMoiLand · 09/12/2009 16:40

I have never met a netball player I could warm to.

Hockey players, yes.

WeThreeNinks · 09/12/2009 16:40

LOL at sockmonkey's description of GK

lucykate · 09/12/2009 16:41

when dd was in the infants, the same girl was mary in reception, and again in year 1, and in year 2, the same girl was mrs claus. the same kids were also narrators for each play. none are in the netball team (yet), but the same ones do get chosen to represent the school at any given opportunity.

i never had anything other than a background role in any play i was in at school, and so far, so have the dc's. am sensing a pattern here

Flightattendant · 09/12/2009 16:41

Never Mary, i was a cat, then a clockwork doll,

played GD but only under duress

I like the bit in Harriet the Spy where she has to be an onion.

TheCrackFox · 09/12/2009 16:42

Do you think girls who are Mary, Centre and Head Girl go on to have amazing lives or do you think they peak too early?

grenadine · 09/12/2009 16:44

At our primary school the marys tend to be shy children not the confident future head girl types..they play the Angel gabriel!

Dumbledoresgirl · 09/12/2009 16:44

Never Mary - I don't actually remember ever being in a nativity.

Never even made the netball club let alone team. In lessons I wanted to play centre because my theory was I would at least get to hold the ball once in the game.

So, bad at acting, worse at sports.... my talents lie elsewhere

ReneRusso · 09/12/2009 16:44

I was an angel I seem to remember (not Gabriel, just any old angel making up numbers). And I peed on the altar in the church. Was usually wing attack / wing defence.

sherby · 09/12/2009 16:44

no

see my description of our centre today

CrapSuzette · 09/12/2009 16:46

I was Mary. Twice. Probably because I had long dark hair.
First time I was four years old. I held The Baby Jesus upside down throughout, while staring lovingly at his feet.
Second time I was 11, but can't remember much about it. Only that I fancied one of the Three Wise Men like mad.
Was rubbish at netball. Usually WD I think.
In my experience, it was always the Angel Gabriel who went on to be Queen Bee/Alpha Female.

CaptainUnderpants · 09/12/2009 16:47

I was once a sheep and I never got into the netball team - I now know why

LindenAvery · 09/12/2009 16:49

Narrator

Centre

RI Or RW

Head Girl

Shodan · 09/12/2009 16:52

I was always bloddy Joseph.

And GK.

And right or left back in hockey.

Tall girl in single sex school.

Gah.

(But I was always the soloist in carol concerts too.)

Fennel · 09/12/2009 16:52

What about Angel 5? what do those girls go on to be (2 of my 3 dds are Angel 5s). I suspect Angel 5s turn into the quirky arty girls who never join a sports team or have any leadership role.

My other dd was a Mary, she is a prefect type (bossy, very confident), possibly a head girl, definitely the type to do the registers, but not a Centre at netball.

Kathyis12feethighandbites · 09/12/2009 16:53

My little brother was Second Donkey. He was brilliant. He spent ages in the field with the donkeys beforehand learning how to behave like them.

cornflakemum · 09/12/2009 16:53

Mary
GA (but hated netball)
Rotary Rose Bowl for Public Speaking in 6th Form
3 x lead female part in school musicals

Does that help or hinder your theory???

SerenityNowAKABleh · 09/12/2009 16:55

I was Angel Gabriel (but when really young, so doesn't really count) and then various random completely made up parts. When I was forced against my will played netball, I was usually something that didn't require much effort/involvement, like Goal Defense for the winning team (so just sort of farted about and sunbathed at my end of the court). Left the school before the hard girl/prefect era, but I could seem them starting to panic when they realised they would have had to have given me something. The Head Teacher was quite relieved when I left.

Girls who were centre were always popular and had flippy hair.

nearlybeans · 09/12/2009 16:56

Mary. Goal Defence - largely due to unwillingness to run. Managed to be in goal for hockey - even less running

To this day I am remarkably proficient at balancing an upside-down hockey stick on my palm.

WeThreeNinks · 09/12/2009 17:01

This thread is strangely hilarious

at Second Donkey method acting!

saintnickelas · 09/12/2009 17:04

very interesting theory.

i was in the recorder group and played wing defence.
but i was crap at acting and crap at sport (but i could just about blow a tune)

Never anything of any consequence in a school play.

Loved netball though. GK

saintnickelas · 09/12/2009 17:08

oh, i didn't realise you'd gone onto hockey etc!
only read a page and a half...

i was RB in hockey and pretty bloody unpopular in every sphere of school life.
but i never had my towel flushed down the toilet, so that's a good thing i suppose!

Fennel · 09/12/2009 17:09

I was Narrator. (Sensible and a good reader but no good at acting)
And Left Back in hockey (a position for the reliable, keen but not at all sporty girl).

SerenityNowAKABleh · 09/12/2009 17:10

Well, DB was donkey in one play. His wife was a donkey too. I wonder if there's anything in that.
