AIBU to be annoyed when I make a really good point on a thread

and then it's ignored, and either I have to repeat it, or then someone else comes and makes exactly the same point and everyone goes "oh yes, that's quite clever" "what a good and inciteful point" and so on. Maybe I should just type in caps?
So, AIBU?

Some children are, in my professional opinion, little shits.

Hullygully · 07/12/2009 17:14

Yep, they are. It is v upsetting to see. Poor DS. (Both my dc have had all this at different stages). Best friend usually goes along with it to avoid being target self. Have you spoken to teacher?

I personally (and this is not the done thing AT ALL) like to take the bully to one side and explain things in no uncertain terms. Just so we're all clear.

Hullygully · 07/12/2009 17:16

And fuck the extenuating circs.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 07/12/2009 17:41

Hully - I can definitely see it from friend's point of view. The bully is superficially charming and funny, a real Alpha male, and literally elbows DS out the way to get to his friend. I know friend finds him a bit much and has complained to his mum that this boy hurts him. But at school I just think it's not cool to be too friendly to my DS.

Re: talking to the bully. I did have to tell him off a couple of times today (once on the bus when he imitated an elderly Asian lady who was trying to get off the bus shouted to the driver to open the doors, and later when he basically went round the lunch table trying to take the piss out of nearly everyone - I said "have you ever got anything nice to say to anyone ?" He replied "Sometimes" - so I said "I look forward to hearing that then, I'll be listening out".

I don't think he can be in any doubt I've got his number. Was wondering if this will make things worse for DS ....

I think I will talk to teacher - in some ways seeing it myself was reassuring, in that I know it is not only my son the boy will do it to .....

Jamieandhismagictorch · 07/12/2009 17:46

tethersend :

What about

tethersendXmascardsNowincaseofmoreRoyalMailstrikes?

Trips off the tongue, don't it ?

Hullygully · 07/12/2009 17:49

Good for you. I don't think it makes it worse if they know you're on to them, especially at that age. I would definitely speak to the teacher as well, he needs to be stopped right now.

And if it helps - they all go through it, and it does pass, it's just v grim while it lasts. Stay on the case until the little shit is quashed.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 07/12/2009 17:52

Hurrah ! It's the first time we've faced it, and it is a job to not feel helpless in the face of it - or horribly angry. In a way though, it's good practice to get ourselves as bully-proofed as possible.

Hullygully · 07/12/2009 17:54

Yes, we did role plays and all sorts. And I drove the school mad with terribly loving polite and very very persistent insistence on its being dealt with. And I felt sick for the whole time it lasted...

Spectroscopy · 07/12/2009 18:08

Mostly I just like to get things off my chest, so I'm not that bothered if I don't get a response (especially in big threads).

It is very annoying when the OP doesn't acknowledge a reply in a small thread where all the replies are trying to help them though. GRRRR!

Hullygully · 07/12/2009 18:09

great ideas notwithstanding

CheerfulYank · 07/12/2009 18:12

In my professional opinion, it really does help to let children know that you're on to them. He does sound like a nasty 'un, and I know from nasty children.

I'm in Minnesota to whoever asked, and no 10:40 wouldn't necessarily be to early for a knock, but I am surrounded by 6 year olds. Sigh...

tethersend · 07/12/2009 18:34

Are you a teacher too, cheerfulyank?

Hullygully · 07/12/2009 18:44

if she isn't, it's really rather worrying.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 07/12/2009 18:52

Thanks all - just had a nice chat with DS1. I feel I am much clearer on what's going on now I've seen it with mine own eyes (and he has a brilliantly insightful assessment of the situation, being the son of an exceptionally clever and empathic mum )

(Was just about to comment on Spectroscopy's off-topic interjection, until I remembered that the last approx 13 pages have been one big hijack, with some little ones added)

Jamieandhismagictorch · 07/12/2009 19:00

Spectroscopy We all agree with you. And so does bran

Hullygully · 07/12/2009 19:18

Chatting is good. Glad you feel better.

Pag doesn't agree with anyone.

tethersend · 07/12/2009 19:20

I agree, neither do I.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 07/12/2009 19:23

What about my name suggestion tethersend ?

tethersend · 07/12/2009 19:28

Oooh, almost forgot, sorry Jamie.

It's very good- but I'm a bit militantly pro-postal strike and don't want to seem like a scab.

It is quite possible I'm reading far too much into this, though.

Thank you.

pagwatch · 07/12/2009 19:33

I agree with Pag
and I agree with Jamies DS

TethertheAssandSendPagaPresent

Can't chitter girls. Have millions of documents to fill in for DS2. BTW he has to play a girl in his christmas play - wtf is that all about. He does not understand imaginative play so he just thinks he is cross dressing
So now christmas for paglet is getting a nice new frock... and

See you loveleies

pagwatch · 07/12/2009 19:51

oooeeer

That was tether the ass as in you should tether the donkey. Not tether is an ass.

Logged back on because I was worried about that

tethersend · 07/12/2009 20:00

That's a relief, Pag...

Jamieandhismagictorch · 07/12/2009 20:02

tether not a comment on the strikes (I am somewhat of a Bennite myself). Just trying to think of something with SEND and Christmas theme.

Ass works too though .....

Jamieandhismagictorch · 07/12/2009 20:06

pag I know you are not there, but is your DS playing Mary ? If so, am v. v. . I was only ever the Narrator, and once an Angel.

Silly me though, It's Christmas - it'll be a play about some pirates or summat, won't it

tethersend · 07/12/2009 20:17

I know, I picked a really shit name.

Thanks for trying!

Perhaps I need to focus on the 'end' bit....?
