garrrr

GRRRR. Parking outside schools, actually parking in general is a topic that really gets on my wick. Why is it that people have to park right on top of wherever it is they're going? Why can't people park up the road or round the corner and WALK 150 yards to get to where they're going?

OP YANBU - drivers need to put pedestrians needs before their own and then perhaps this world would be a smidge lovelier.

WouldYouCouldYouWithaGoat · 23/11/2009 11:23

i am going to need a 4x4 to transport my high horses around with me.

MintyCane · 23/11/2009 11:23

"Well if you live on a farm and you only have a 4x4 " But they don't live on farms, usually they live in large houses in the city. Those Joules wellies they turn up to school in have never seen an inch of mud.

WouldYouCouldYouWithaGoat · 23/11/2009 11:24

all you 4x4 drivers need to go and help this woman

stoppingat3 · 23/11/2009 11:24

Well I live in the country, actual woods outside my house, I needed a 4x4 to haul all the kits and children around. I got fed up with the fuel and swopped to a large estate which I absolutely HATE.
I have 3dc, my 10 year old is massive - size8 feet etc. He hates having to sit in the middle between two cars seats when we all go out together. But thats his problem and not a major one.
At the end of the day its a free country and its everyone's choice. Those that drive 4x4's pay through the nose to do so.

MintyCane · 23/11/2009 11:25

You are going to need a gilet and wellies as well Goat darling.

ImSoNotTelling · 23/11/2009 11:26

I think people are riled by some appalling driving by people with massive cars with blacked out windows.

The private school thing is, I guess, as people are more likely to drive 4x4 if they have privately educated children due to ££££.

FWIW round here loads of 4x4 for all types of school, many driven scarily.

fannybanjo · 23/11/2009 11:28

Didn't answer my question though Goat! Why do you despise them so much? I can think of worse things to get annoyed about.

stoppingat3 · 23/11/2009 11:28

Gillet? wellies? oh dear God, its Barbours and Hunters dontcha know

mumoverseas · 23/11/2009 11:29

'we need to get back to the good old days of private education where they simply packed the children off once a term on a train with an enormous trunk full of tuck [too much enid blyton emoticon]'

Thats what I do now, I packed my eldest two DC off to boarding school so I don't have to keep driving my 4 x 4 down little country lanes twice a day and offending the residents

MintyCane · 23/11/2009 11:30

"cars with blacked out windows." There seems to be a trend of these around here. Why any grown woman would want to be seen driving an A team van is beyond me.

pagwatch · 23/11/2009 11:31

I don't have a 4x4 and i walk my DD to school. DS2 is collected in his school taxi , which is frequently blocked bythe parents trying to park on the double yellow lines outside my house to drop their children at the state school opposite.

I just hate the double standards on here. If someone posted about chavvy state school drivers double parking in their second hand skoda then there would rightly be outrage. People would point out that stereotyping in a prejorative way is biggotted and stupid. But do it about private school parents and its suddenly ok. And it always involves sneering at the children who are mocked because they are children of people it is ok to hate because they are percieved to have money. I hate that a parenting forum sneers at kids

brightongirldownunder · 23/11/2009 11:34

Sorry but 4 x 4's in the city are totally pointless. There are hundreds here in Sydney - far more than the UK. Mostly are driven by fake tanned yuppies with only one child. I have had more near misses with them whilst crossing the road with DD than with any fiesta/golf/micra probably because they're so high up they actually don't see us.
And relax.......

luckyblackcat · 23/11/2009 11:34
SlartyBartFast · 23/11/2009 11:34

she shoudl have parked responsibly and let her precious child walk

WouldYouCouldYouWithaGoat · 23/11/2009 11:34

are second hand skods's considered chavy?

MintyCane · 23/11/2009 11:35

Around here the 4x4s and A team vans are equally distributed between the private and state schools.

I don't think the school is relevant but I don't get the 4x4 thing at all.

Poledra · 23/11/2009 11:35

Minty, sometimes you don't have a choice - the best MPV for my needs came with 'privacy glass' in the back as standard. DH immediately christened it the Crew Bus

brightongirldownunder · 23/11/2009 11:35

Haha @ A-Team van...

WouldYouCouldYouWithaGoat · 23/11/2009 11:36

can't believe i even used teh word chavy

brightongirldownunder · 23/11/2009 11:36

Collapses in gurning laughter @ "Privacy Glass"

pagwatch · 23/11/2009 11:37

Goat
I have no idea.
I don't know much about cars and I am never sure what chavvy means..... Skoda was the only thing that came to mind

MintyCane · 23/11/2009 11:37

what are you doing in there ? I always wonder that when i see them

Poledra · 23/11/2009 11:38

Fab, isn't it? No-one can see the DDs picking their noses in there.

MintyCane · 23/11/2009 11:40

Shame, I thought the kids were actually spies or something exciting and now I know they are just all picking their nosed like the state school kids after all
