MillyR - in the grammar school I teach in the standard of education is exactly the same as the private girls school i went to in the 1980's (in fact the resources are better too) The only thing different to an indie I would say to day is probably the massive sports field or smaller classes. I frequently tell my pupils they are lucky to receive a private type education for the cost of school fund (when they moan about paying 30 or 40 quid a year into school fund).

Haha - poof and it was gone. Must have lasted all of 3 mins!

animula · 09/03/2010 20:51

Please don't be mean.

Seriously. It's run on a shoestring, it's not as big as mn; you really will make it difficult for them if they have to do lots of moderating.

And it really is there to help people who can't afford to hire tutors.

A little love, everyone.

Tolerance on the internet, and all.

[Killjoy emoticon.]

Hardys · 09/03/2010 21:04

animula - they deleted the whole thread, not just my post and i copied and pasted what i had said in my last post here, which you have to agree was nothing compared to 4 pages of them slagging off mumsnet.

Their mods were straight onto it, but were happy to leave their thread running until just now.

They know they were in the wrong for leaving it all there, otherwise they would have just deleted my thread.

Hardys · 09/03/2010 21:05

my post i mean not my thread.

squilly · 09/03/2010 21:19

I'm just off to bed, but am posting just to keep this in my active list.

I'm helping a friends boy out with 11+ type tutoring. His mum is keen for him to go to the local private school, but he needs to pass the entrance exam which is similar to the 11+ Bond Papers.

He speaks English as a second language and goes to a lovely local school that's great on the pastoral/caring side, but not really very pushy on the educational side. She just wants him to have a real chance at getting through the entrance exam and then, hopefully, a scholarship.

He's bright, keen and very smart, but English grammar, in particular, is tricky for him. He doesn't know proverbs, or unusual/old fashioned words, so I'm just helping him build up his verbal skills.

I'm hoping to read this through tomorrow...for now, I've got to iron and then I'm off to bed. School tripping in the morning!

ShellingPeas · 09/03/2010 21:26

Oh FFS, does it really matter? Seriously, grow up.

Some people have different interests to others and not all people who use or post on the 11+ forum are complete and total nutters and obsessed with their children getting into grammar schools.

It is a useful source of information if you are looking at going down that route, and for some people, in some counties, there is no other way if you want a decent education.

Yes, there may well be some oddballs on there, but are there any less on here?

And it is a tiny site compared to MN, without the huge financial backup due to advertising that MN has.

Meh to you all.

rainbowinthesky · 09/03/2010 21:27

Mumsnet at it's worst here.

rainbowinthesky · 09/03/2010 21:29

its

rainbowinthesky · 09/03/2010 21:30

or is it it's? [thick emoticon]

ShellingPeas · 09/03/2010 21:33

I think it's its. As in Shellingpeas at her worst. But I could be wrong, and I'm sure some pedant will be along shortly to correct me.

ShellingPeas · 09/03/2010 21:39

And another thing... although almost everyone is BU I would say that this recent kerfuffle is partly caused by several numpties on the 11plus site stirring up an old thread which would have otherwise died a deservedly dull death.

(Check out the alliteration there. I am definitely worthy of an 11+ pass.)

Actually Ed, not everyone on the 11plus thread slagged off NM. Some people did defend it (well, one lone voice in the wilderness).

Pigghills · 09/03/2010 21:59

Oh dear, if only you could all hear yourselves.

You really do sound very bitter.

Be glad for what you have and leave them to get on with their own lives.

A lot has been said in the media recently about this site and I've had a good look around, if this is the standard (swearing and bitching) then thanks, but no thanks. You lie with dogs, you smell like a dog!

Bye bye bitches.
