To come out with the old chestnut 'If the child is clever they will need little to no tutoring' is either born of naivety, wealth or having a genius child. Do top sports personalities succeed with little or no training?
Having been to a private school where for example looking at the wall displays you see primary aged children capable of writing letters in fluent french; then go to see the displays at the local primary where they have words only vocab like 'un', 'deux', trois' displayed by the teachers puts it into perspective. Does that make private education pushy/intensive? Is that what the wealthy or smarter parents pay for?
The education provided at a private, top or even average state school vary greatly.
Where many private schools tutor for the 11+ and 13+ entry from yr4, whilst the majority of state primary schools do zero prep. Does that make private education pushy/intensive? Is that what the wealthy or smarter parents pay for? A better postcode, a private school?
Why do private schools get on average 60%+ of students into the local grammar, whilst the majority of state schools may get 1%-3% through. Are all private school children born brighter than our poor state school children???? Is that what the wealthy or smarter parents pay for?
Why do parents start children in private education then move them over to grammar at secondary level? What were they paying for? If your child was educated in a private school or one of the best state schools where could that education take them? I remember overhearing the head at my old school tell the chair of governors, whilst blithely smiling over at his A+ daughter say 'they all can't be managers'.
Even the refugee fleeing a war torn country with nothing but the clothes on his back can tell you that they may of lost all their worldly goods but no-one can take away their education. The basis upon which they will need to build a new life for their families and themselves.
IMHO Whilst this thread was a grudge obviously started to be antagonistic towards another site, that site provides a valuable service and eye opener to reality. Helpful posters/posts, and a place where defamatory remarks are not tolerated and rules are followed. Help/knowledge for the less wealthy and less smarter parent.
Having worked in secondary schools, my experience tells me that it's the schools where the rules are implemented and followed that are always the academically successful ones.
Rant over! (you're even allowed to have a rant on the other site )
