Sorry LDNM, me again, but I'm still reeling here.

As you wrote ...

:: session materials - downloaded free from the internet, cost of printer ink only
:: homework materials - £100 or so over 6 months
:: time for marking homework - while your DC marks time and is not actively tutored, of course
:: assessments - which are part of her job, and assessments invariably involve the tutor watching the child complete a test paper while they drink coffee
:: loan of relevant books to read to improve comprehension skills - available free from your local lending library
:: refreshments during tutoring session - suggest you provide a sandwich and a packet of juice, because it will be more nutritious than the Rich Tea biscuit and glass of tap water that the tutor will provide.

Hi LDNM

Sorry, we crossed posts while I was having a little rant to myself! Off on another one ...

The difference of 5 standardised marks (119 to 124 could be as little as two raw marks!! That is £1000 per mark. You could achieve that by putting your DC through a practice paper once a week for 50 minutes. Cost: £30, Stress: Zero.

I understand about super-selective, but I am not even sure that is what you really want for your DC anyway? (Careful dear LDNM, you are already getting sucked into the system. )

£45 is an awful lot - although if this is in London, I suppose it might be closer to the going rate. Our £20 included all materials/marking etc as well, so don't get conned in to thinking you are getting 'extras' thrown in for that price.
I would try looking closer to home - try shop windows, local magazines, googling it etc.

This thread is still going!?

Why?

You have the bloody 11+ forum, why do you need a whole thread here as well???

And it all started off so nicely.

LDNM

I am wondering if those scores are the tutor's assessment?

Where did the NVR 136 come from?

All the scores you quote are entirely of 11+ standard anyway - none of them are more than 2 -3 marks off the real thing.

I would be very concerned if any tutor suggested that they could predict a standardised score anyway. There are too many variables each year and in the cohort to be able to that.

OK, I'm going to hide this thread.

I've just come through the living hell that is the 11+, and while I never posted on the 11+ forum, I did lurk a bit. And some of the posts made me soooo (yes, I have ishoos, but really, the attitues of some of those parents! )

I've decided not to put myself my younger DC through the 11+, (I know we're very lucky to have other options). It was a case of either getting out the 6-7 yo Bond books now, or giving up completely. So this thread constantly popping up in active convos is recurring nightmare for me.

Good bye 11 plusers. Enjoy!
