i was in town yesterday in claires accessories and was appauled to see a mother sitting with her baby on her lap about to get the babys ears pierced !! it was visible the baby coulld not quite sit up by herself so im guessing she was around 6-7 month.
i moved away to the top of te shop and heard a high pitched scream... poor baby !!!
the mother needless to say was a bit of a "chav" and dripping in gold herself,
my 2 girls are 1 and 2 and i wouldnt dream of getting their ears pierced for a good more few year yet !
i think this is awfu that shops allow this sort of thing, aibu to think this !

YABU to put 'needless to say she was a bit of a chav'

southeastastra · 12/11/2009 08:25

what do you suggest to do then, make it illegal?

em83 · 12/11/2009 08:25

only speaking my mind !
i may be being a bit stereotypical but she looked the sort

OP posts:
southeastastra · 12/11/2009 08:27

what 'the sort' you disapprove of? maybe she feels the same about you

em83 · 12/11/2009 08:29

erm not illegal but maybe have an age minimum age limit on these things !!!!!!!!

OP posts:
ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 12/11/2009 08:30

'only speaking my mind'

that's ok then

You are a judgemental snob.

Only speaking my mind!

em83 · 12/11/2009 08:31

SNOB lmao ! ! !
love it !

Yes you could make it illegal in much the same way as it's illegal for under 18's to get a tatoo. Maybe if you draw the comparison would you be horrified to see a 6 month old baby getting a tatoo? Quite! I personally think that a child needs to be old enough a)to understand what is happening and b)to look after the darn things once they are in themselves. P.S let's not turn this into another discussion on the British class system ;)

ocdgirl · 12/11/2009 08:42

i think it should be illegal actually and i don't care if you all flame me and call me a snob !! having a babies ears pierced imo is cruel as it's not their choice and why the fecking hell does a baby need ear rings ? babies are not fashion accessories!!

DoingTheBestICan · 12/11/2009 08:43

I dont like to see earrings in young children but then some might say they dont like my ds's boden hair style.

Maybe there should be a minimum age.

Each to their own i say.

gingertoo · 12/11/2009 08:45

YANBU to feel sorry for the baby
YANBU to question whether it is necessary to have a young child's ears pierced...

NormaSknockers · 12/11/2009 08:45

I agree with hobnobs I think they're should be an age limit on it, I know it's each to their own & 'her baby, her choice' but it does make me really when I see little babies with pierced ears. That's just me though, I couldn't do it personally.

shockers · 12/11/2009 08:47

There's a world of difference between a hairstyle and piercing...

DoingTheBestICan · 12/11/2009 08:50

I know, the point i was trying to make was what one person finds horrible another finds acceptable.

I dont like earrings in babies, sil had dn ears done when she was about 6 mths & i hated it but i wouldnt say anything because she might find something i do with re my ds's style awful/Does that make any sense?

InterruptingKid · 12/11/2009 08:51

no bloody text speaks

shockers · 12/11/2009 08:56

I understand what you're saying doingthebest.., what I meant was that a hairstyle is personal taste but ear piercing is an invasive procedure that causes pain and possibly ongoing infection.
I hate it too!

Booyhoo · 12/11/2009 08:58

i would never put a hole in my baby, let them do it themseles when they are old enough. so in that respect YANBU.

BUT you are a snob. no need to mention that she was a 'chav'. your post has an air of snobbery to it.

southeastastra · 12/11/2009 09:01

so em how do you feel about circumcision for purposes other than medical?

Arsed · 12/11/2009 09:03

Rather be a snob than an idiot chav who thinks it's ok to let a ram a needle though their babys earlobe.

It should be completly outlawed, imo it's abuse.

GibbonInARibbon · 12/11/2009 09:05

There is many things I find unreasonable in this thread. Use of text speak in title, use of the word chav, thought of baby having it's ears pierced and the word boden in bold like anyone cares. Do they have boden hair and beauty salons then? Am I beind the times?

shockers · 12/11/2009 09:06

That's a difficult one because it's done in obedience to God ( I'm not Jewish by the way) rather than to accessorise a baby.

circumcision is completey different
as well as medical it is also performed for religious or cultural reasons therefore it is not cruel ! !
loving the fact im being called a snob

OP posts:
ImSoNotTelling · 12/11/2009 09:11

A lot of people get babys ears pierced for cultural reasons too.

Just thought I'd chuck that in

em83 · 12/11/2009 09:13

but in this case i dont think it was cultural .
