To find putting a DC who could walk, in the shopping trolly with their shoes on, pretty disgusting?

There's loads of parents who put their DC, who wont fit into the seat at the front and who could be walking, into the shopping trolly where the food goes, with their shoes on.

I've seen how much dog shit is on the paths and roads, and I know most food is packaged in cellophane these days, but still...I put that food on my kitchen top when I get it home

I'm sure it's much easier putting the little monkey darlings in the trolly to stop them running riot around in the shop, but it is pretty nasty.

and Sainsbury's do have this policy, those of us who care ask them to get out, but unfortunately a lot of our staff had had replies such as 'are you telling me i dont know how to look after my own child?' or other ignorant abuse, so didnt bother and just let the parents make their own mistakes.

I always put DC in trolley in Sainbos, never been asked to remove her.

MsSpentYoof · 15/01/2010 02:12

I spin the trolley around with DS in it

nooka · 15/01/2010 06:00

I used to let ds push the trolley with dd in it when they were small. Very bad mother obviously. Now they are grown up and just stay at home mostly or bribery is involved. People are seriously over obsessed with hygiene. Much better to build up your resistance than try and live a sterile life (for those with ordinary immune systems). Overuse of antibacterial products is a serious issue and one of the reasons that there is such a problem with superbugs, they are totally unnecessary for normal households.

YANBU - I think it's absolutely disgusting that able-bodied children demand to be pushed around. I think the trolley hygiene thing is less of an issue...

I have no problem with this and have been known to let my 10 year old ge in the trolley

Annya · 15/01/2010 09:05

We always buy a big box of beer so DS can sit on that - much safer. Plus we bring his slippers.

weegiemum · 15/01/2010 09:09

My dd2 is disabled - she has a degenerative hip condition.

She is 6 and far too big to go in the trolley seat.

I put her in the trolley (or, if it is a big shop, get another trolley and dd1 (10) pushes her.

Only Tesco has trolleys which are specially for disabled children. When we go to our local Morrisons, I have no option but to put her in the trolley.

Don't judge too much! My dd2 "looks" totally normal and can walk. But if she does, she risks a hip replacement at age 30 and degenerative arthritis from her 20's.

So I will put her in the trolley if I want!

FimBOW · 15/01/2010 09:10

Haven't read all the thread but we used to do this on the odd occasion with ds, but he had to sit down and we would take his shoes off. Actually we used to do it in Ikea too, when he was too big for the proper child seat ones. Going round Ikea with a child is a hazzard in itself!.

BendyBob · 15/01/2010 09:10

Good lord you let your dc sit on a box of alcohol??! I expect there's a rule about that too somewhere

I think anyone who can get through a supermarket trip with young dc in tow deserves a blimmin medal. Put 'em in the trolley if it helps.

BendyBob · 15/01/2010 09:11

Going round Ikea with dh is a hazzard too.

FimBOW · 15/01/2010 09:13

Oh and we once had an incident in Morrisons where the trolley was so old that the fixing for the child seat had worn away and it collapsed with ds in it and he fell back into the trolley.

The manager did say the were waiting for replacement trolleys. Ds was giving a free packet of toy cars.

tiredemma · 15/01/2010 09:17

I can't say I have ever given this a second thought.

Are people really concerned by this????

Odd.

But I've seen rats running around on trolleys that are stacked up outside supermarkets. Kids shoes are the least of your hygiene issues with trolleys, believe me!

xkaylax · 15/01/2010 09:29

my ds will only do this at min i never thought it was a problem i find it better than him wandering off like he normally tries to do.

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 15/01/2010 09:30

Agree, smallorange, and I am a bit of a clean freak.

I do it with DD2 (4) when we are in Waitrose, usually just a weekend top up, so no worries about her being squashed, other than that it's online.

BendyBob · 15/01/2010 09:31

'I've seen rats running around on trolleys' Aaargh...

Shurely that wasn't Waitrose though?

joanne34 · 15/01/2010 09:48

Take DC's shoes off first ? Or are socks un-hygienic too !

MrsMattie · 15/01/2010 09:50

I give my 4 yr old a good spin in the trolley sometimes. And no, I don't get him to remove his shoes and then spritz every surface within a 20 foot radius with sanitiser either.

Honestly. Time on your hands?
