AIBU?

to say no to porn

FrameyMcFrame · 26/10/2009 12:57

I have unilaterally banned porn of all kinds in our house. I don't like it and I don't ever want to discover any.
I'm sure this has been done to death on mumsnet but I would like to know if I am being unreasonable. Please tell me!

No, YANBU, porn has been the cause of great grief in our house and has been banned forever.

Probably. Not really up to you to decide what other adults view. Unless you are single, and you are talking about children. Then YANBU.

How would you feel if someone unilaterally decided to ban something from the house that you enjoyed?

I think YABU.

Yes I think YABU. It's not your decision to make, unless you are talking about children under 18. Anyone over 18 in the house should be able to make up their own minds.

yeah but porn though. it's not like I am banning cake.

Depends who your household consists of really. I wouldn't be impressed if my DH started dictating what I could and couldn't look at for example.

Personally, I think YABU. I assume you actually mean you are banning your DH/DP, rather than your DC?

Unless your DP has a history of spending hours on the internet looking at porn, ignoring you & the children, then really it is down to him to decide whether or not he should view it. If you really hate it, then one would hope that he would respect your views, but really as a grown up, it is his decision to make.

What are your issues with porn?

porn is probably better than cake in your Dhs eyes.

so who have you banned from porn - who else lives in your house that you have taken freedom of choice away from?

Report
ILoveStripeySocks · 26/10/2009 13:14

I like porn better than cake.

YABU if your ban extends to other adults in the house.

It is not up to you to make rules for other adutls, no matter what marital vows you've taken or how often you shag them.

Watching porn while eating cake, now there's a fantastic way to spend an evening

Fair enough if you don't like porn, but it is not fair to force your views on to other adults in your house.

If you don't like it, don't watch it. It's that simple.

[drool] porn and cake!! Ohhh.... [drool]

What's wrong with it? If both sides enjoy watching then where's the harm? It's better to be open about these things.

As long as it's not left lying around so children can find it then I think YAB abit U.
Just tell DP/DH your opinion on it and ask him to make sure if he does look at it, it's not anywhere that you or DCs could come across it (no pun intended)
Stripey - don't htink I oculd go quite that far - I like both but I think cake has to win out!
OMDB - wow that would be a great evening! you forgot the glass of wine though - a nice sweet white to complement the cake just right

Cake is banned in our house actually - trying to lose weight. Porn doesn't have any calories so is OK!

I loathe porn, and would not be hugely impressed if I discovered that DP was using it. I don't believe he is, as he never uses the laptop and always looks perplexed when using the Playstation to watch DVDs.

But outright banning of it - I don't think that's the best way of dealing with the issue tbh.

Banned all porn, how do you do that, then?

Doesn´t your husband have access to a computer?
