to think that people claiming that BNP voters aren't racists are being disingenuous?

I don't get the argument "that these people aren't racist, but they vote just BNP".

For me, If you vote BNP, you are a racist. I know this is guilt by association but I think it's fair. What's more, making excuses for those who choose to support these hatemongers makes it more acceptable for them to do so.

I know I wouldn't vote for a party when I didn't know their policies and if I did, I'd feel pretty ashamed that I voted without bothering to find out. To be honest, anyone who votes for the BNP and claims that didn't realise they'd just cosied up to facists needs to give up voting for good.

chicky, I have waded through the tripe on their website many a time. I am also privy to their delightful leaflets on policy which they insist on putting through my letterbox.

Tortington · 23/10/2009 12:52

immigration has to be controlled too many people and we end up with too few resources and too many tax £s being spent.

too few and the country wouldn't be able to function anf tax £'s wouldnt be able to be collected

it's not racist to control immigration

VulpusinaWilfsuit · 23/10/2009 12:54

No time to read rest of thread [damn that work thing preventing me from doing politics] but just to let you know I prodded and probed and asked DP all these questions yesterday. She won't answer them. I don't think she can.

Yes they are disingenuous. That is, disingenuous in the sense of stupid.

VulpusinaWilfsuit · 23/10/2009 12:56

Which policies chickydee? Because I've read ALL of the 'cleaned up version on the website, the ones dug up over time to show how slippery they can be, highlighting Griffin's pathetic attempt to respectablise the racist nonsense (in order to win votes, mind, not with any actual principles behind it...) AND the ones that come through my door on a regular basis with blatant lies and filth printed all over them.

Have you? Which ones would you like to defend?

GrimmaTheNome · 23/10/2009 12:57

The fact that we now have to accept parts of Sharia law as OUR law

Sorry, what? I missed that one. What part of Sharia law is our law now?

daftpunk · 23/10/2009 12:59

VW.....i'm pretty sure i answered every question you asked me.....?

but tbh,...i find it almost impossible to talk to you...you are so left-wing....you will never understand me.

let's agree we are coming from totally different directions politically.....we both think we're right.

MrsSpider · 23/10/2009 12:59

Chicky, which parts of Sharia law are we expected to accept as law?

I was completely unaware that this had happened, and let's face it, given the prominence of people like Griffin, there would have been an almighty hoo-ha about it.

BobbingForPeachys · 23/10/2009 13:00

'How many of you have read and understand the BNP policies'

Well I have quopted from it twice so.....

It's also teh ase that last night NG was quoted (from film not print so definitely him) as saying that you aim widely then go for the jugular later on WRT racial stuff

Stopping being friends with someone based on their BNP support is narrow minded?really? Just, I am not sure I want friends who so patently disagree with pretty muche verything I satnd for (I specifically went to Uni to study a subject becuase of anti racist beleifs, and covered transatlantic slavery for my diss.) How can you be friends when a core beleief of theirs disgusts you?

Tortington · 23/10/2009 13:00

"Some people join purely because they want this country to become ours again, and for the idiocy to stop. The fact that we now have to accept parts of Sharia law as OUR law, for THIS country is only one of many many points that the BNP would fight against."

country to become ours again?

ours...who?

please can someone explain the sharia law reference to me and where we have sharia in our law system

thanks

bacon · 23/10/2009 13:01

I think the BNP stands for a lot of the opinions of the population who are too scared to speak up. And whether you like it or not many people have opinions and rant and rave about this country in the privacy of their homes.

What makes me sick is the freedom of speech - in this country only certain people are allowed to speak up - if you disagree then the racist card is flagged up.

The way I see it, Britain will get more racist in the future because if this population explosion happens with all this immegration without policing.

The BNP only exists due to its popularity. I think a lot of people are racist (within their own home)more than you think.

DP, you still haven't answered my question. So 'define British'? Who is British in your eyes?

Tortington · 23/10/2009 13:03

bacon = freedon of speech makes you sick?

MrsSpider · 23/10/2009 13:04

Bacon, to my mind, people can spout as much bile and rubbish as they like. In an ideal world people would see it for the small minded waste of time it is.

What I object to is the sanitisation engaged in by the BNP etc who dress up hatred in the guise of national pride.

The sahri'a thing

that was widely misreported (I did study it a bit, at that time I was in third year of religions degree)

It was about allowing Shari'a alongside our law and only when compatible with UK law-
here

BobbingForPeachys · 23/10/2009 13:08

Bacon

racism isn't a card, it's a description of a set of peopleespousing (though often under claims of 'I'm not rcistbut...') a set of beleifs

MrsSpider · 23/10/2009 13:09

So not having to accept Sharia law as law in this country at all then - we're looking at the possibility of Sharia law being applied in cases where it is not inconsistent with UK law, and with the agreement of all parties.

A slightly less inflammatory situation than having UK-wide laws changed.

Tortington · 23/10/2009 13:09

thank you peachy. so to clarify sharia is not currently part of our law system.

alana39 · 23/10/2009 13:11

Just seen NG complain on the BBC website that it was unfair he faced a London audience as levels of immigation mean it is not a British city anymore. When has it ever been any different?

Where should he be invited next time?

Looking forward to the definition of British when I come back later.

MrsSpider · 23/10/2009 13:12

I'm not from London and I'm sure I would have been just as 'unfair'!
