to think that people claiming that BNP voters aren't racists are being disingenuous?

I don't get the argument "that these people aren't racist, but they vote just BNP".

For me, If you vote BNP, you are a racist. I know this is guilt by association but I think it's fair. What's more, making excuses for those who choose to support these hatemongers makes it more acceptable for them to do so.

I know I wouldn't vote for a party when I didn't know their policies and if I did, I'd feel pretty ashamed that I voted without bothering to find out. To be honest, anyone who votes for the BNP and claims that didn't realise they'd just cosied up to facists needs to give up voting for good.

My ds has been in all the xmas plays etc easter festivals blah blah and I am an atheist but it is not up to me to choose who does what.I like all the different cultures mixing How else can we learn.I was brought up in Northern ireland so have seen racism and bigotry first hand but my family wouldn't have any of it and we were taught to treat everyone equally. It isn't that hard if you look at the BIG PICTURE and live and let live

thedollyridesout · 25/10/2009 20:25

bodycolder - same here. My family wouldn't have any of it either. But it wasn't easy.

moffat · 25/10/2009 20:37

bodycolder has hit the nail on the head - lack of education and integration, perhaps rooted in insecurity and very low self-esteem.

Was interesting that when asked on QT NG said he had travelled to the US (presumably on KKK business) and Libya (begging for funds from those abhorrent Muslims) - there is a certain type of person who is just so unimaginative that other cultures hold no interest for them, they feel no connection to the world/humanity, they live in their tiny little world wanting things to just carry on the same for ever. It is a very sad and ignorant way to live.

daftpunk · 25/10/2009 20:45

moffat...are you saying it's just white British people who are like that..?

don't really understand your post..

moffat · 25/10/2009 20:50

I didn't expect you to

daftpunk · 25/10/2009 20:54

explain it to me then..

moffat · 25/10/2009 20:55

is there any point?

duelingFANGo · 25/10/2009 20:55

DP - you are silly. Though the headline says 'banning' the council haven't banned teh word Christmas at all. They have changed the name of their winter festival, not banned the word Cristmas. You silly thing you.

moffat · 25/10/2009 20:57

your views seem very entrenched and narrow-minded, do you think you are able to see anyone else's point of view?

pithyslicker · 25/10/2009 20:58

Moffat- I think you should answer the question, DP is getting stick for not answering questions,it only seems fair.

Tortington · 25/10/2009 21:00

banning the word 'Xmas'

Dp if you can provide some research it might help

becuase i have an inclination it stupid WHITE councillors who have done shit all research and who themselves are Ignorant of religeon.

i bet my dogs left leg, that there hasn't been ONe ethnic minority petition to make a council change christmas to 'winterfest'

daftpunk · 25/10/2009 21:00

i'm trying moffat...i just want you to explain to me what group of people you are refering to in your post..?

Tortington · 25/10/2009 21:01

plithy - moffat is doiing what dp is doing to the rest of us i suspect as a matter of making a point.

moffat it's made me chuckle

duelingFANGo · 25/10/2009 21:01

DAftpunk - when you said "1 in 5 people have admitted they are considering voting BNP" can you provide the statistics for this other than the manipulated Yougov poll?

daftpunk · 25/10/2009 21:02

i said earlier it was white middle class idiots custy

bodycolder · 25/10/2009 21:05

I think moffat is referring to people who have failed to look beyond the end of their noses at the change in society and have never taken the opportunity to get to know their neighbours because it would involve opening their minds to a whole variety of new things religion food ideas languages colour customs and so rather than go there they decide to just say no and let tension build.

Tortington · 25/10/2009 21:07

yes dp - so whats the point of the winterfest thing? apart from a demonstration of council stupidity

i don't think your telling anyone anythng they don' already know

daftpunk · 25/10/2009 21:08

oh i see...so it's only white people then..

isn't that a rascist comment..?

duelingFANGo · 25/10/2009 21:09

Did Moffat even mention skin colour?

pithyslicker · 25/10/2009 21:09

I thought this winter festival stuff was an urban myth?

duelingFANGo · 25/10/2009 21:12

Pithyslicker - you thought right

bodycolder · 25/10/2009 21:13

Where does white come into it?

daftpunk · 25/10/2009 21:14

DF; no she didn't...she hasn't really answered me, but bc said she's refering to people who wont accept a change in society...so i'm taking that as meaning white British people...

VulpusinaWilfsuit · 25/10/2009 21:15

I cannot be bothered anymore.

Except to say, it is Oxford FFS. What do you think the motivation was for a Winter Lights festival? In fecking Oxford? I bet you about a million quid house in Chiswick that it had fuck all to do with 'banning Christmas' and everything to do with some attempt to have all kinds of nonsense edgy art projects.

It is a news report. In a newspaper. Even the Grauniad version doesn't report ANY comments from anyone involved in the Festival. Does that not ring ANY bells in your head DP? That perhaps it might be an 'angle'...?

I'm off from these threads for a bit. I've had enough of banging my head on the wall and being sneered at by right-wingers; and of you DP, much as I appreciate the tiny bits of debate, it is tiring.
