to think that people claiming that BNP voters aren't racists are being disingenuous?

I don't get the argument "that these people aren't racist, but they vote just BNP".

For me, If you vote BNP, you are a racist. I know this is guilt by association but I think it's fair. What's more, making excuses for those who choose to support these hatemongers makes it more acceptable for them to do so.

I know I wouldn't vote for a party when I didn't know their policies and if I did, I'd feel pretty ashamed that I voted without bothering to find out. To be honest, anyone who votes for the BNP and claims that didn't realise they'd just cosied up to facists needs to give up voting for good.

My stick did have a placard attached to it...

BobbingForPeachys · 24/10/2009 14:30

That, my dear, is a sign LOL

Which I wholeheartedly support.Up the sign-bearers!

brightongirldownunder · 24/10/2009 14:31

Yes but I was still offensive....those dungarees...

Blu · 24/10/2009 14:32

I have no doubt that some people who vote - or intend to vote - for the BNP are not ostensibly racist. That is a big shame, because they are beig duped into voting for a party whose stated policies and covert intentions are racist.

brightongirldownunder · 24/10/2009 14:34

Exactly Blu - just wish DP could see that as an intelligent woman.

Exactly Blu - just wish DP, as an intelligent woman, could see that...

brightongirldownunder · 24/10/2009 14:37

Lordy, that'll teach me to preview my message in future

electra · 24/10/2009 14:38

blu - what a great post, I completely agree.

daftpunk - I think you and many other BNP supporters seem unaware of a very sinister agenda the BNP would pull out of the bag if they ever (god forbid) got into power. At that point many of us might be living in fear - the lines of the 'policies' peddled by the BNP will necessarily end in crisis for humanity. It CANNOT be allowed to happen.

It is all about racism - it is NOT about concern for over crowding. Otherwise, why do they only scapegoat immigrants who are not white? It is about COLOUR. It is about them thinking they are of a superior race. It boils down to the kind of thinking behind what Hitler did, which is why people call the BNP nazis.

Furthermore, BNP supporters - from what I have seen ALWAYS fail to qualify their position - they jump on bandwagons, they obscure debate, they NEVER say anything that sounds remotely reasonable and that is because they are entirely unreasonable.

If you question a BNP supporter, instead of hearing a reasonable response you are derided, insulted and no attempt is made for the person to justify their position. This was apparent on BNP wives with the woman demonstrating against muslims practicing their faith - she was challenged by members of the public and her response was abusive. This happened the other day on another one of these threads where moondog started a completely unacceptable attack on another poster whose marriage had failed absolutely nothing to do with the debate - was borne out of pure nastiness.

If those of us who feel strongly about our children not growing up in a fascist society express our objections to it, we are called 'self-righteous lefties'. And that is because BNP policies are nonsensical and their premise is base prejudices only.

the BNP will never run this country....the fascists can't even get power in France... and that's saying something...

i really appreciate you talking to me (i am reading & taking in all posts)....i know alot of people on MN will never speak to me again, which is a shame...

we should talk openly about subjects like this....

policywonk · 24/10/2009 14:53

It's not true that immigrants are prioritised above UK citizens for social housing. It's a myth perpetrated by the BNP in seats it is targeting.

one of many reports of recent EHRC research

brightongirldownunder · 24/10/2009 14:56

But DP there is nothing wrong with you having an opinion - you've always been very brave to be so open in the past. I just think that the reaction you're getting is mostly because people are concerned about your reasoning.

smee · 24/10/2009 15:00

yeay pwonk! I wanted to say that but couldn't find the links amidst Saturday mayhem.

PeterAndresSkidmarks · 24/10/2009 15:02

Thanks for that link policywonk.

smallorange · 24/10/2009 15:02

I grew up in a white wc area of south east london where racism was endemic. TheBNP were active there as were the National Front before them. I have a horror of the BNP as the atmosphere changed so much when they were around. I remember feeling ashamed standing in our local corner shop, run by an Asian couple, as these skinheads, wearing bomber jackye and doc martens, marched up our high street. Every time I see nick griffin in his nice suit, I remember those days and feel sick.

I feel like shaking daftpunk. She is hopelessly naive.

I also feel like shaking the people telling us that it's understandable that wc people vote BNP and Us posting on mumsnet don't understand blah de blah.

Most wc people do not vote for facists. Most wc people are pretty decent, actually. And they would regard bNP voters as scum.

daftpunk · 24/10/2009 15:03

thanks brightongirl...

you know i thought i was pretty normal until i started posting on MN....i have said a few things about homosexuality because, as a catholic i don't agree with it....i am now a homophobic.....most religions don't agree with homosexuality....but liberals welcome and want all religions in this country... so is it ok for a muslim to say she doesn't like homosexuals but not a catholic...?

policywonk · 24/10/2009 15:04

all hail Google

Well said smallorange

Morosky · 24/10/2009 15:06

I don't get DP why you dn't just vote UKIP. If this was not about race you would vote that way.

I am astonished that you would be happy to vote for a party who would turn a blind eye to men raping your daughters just so they can get a council house.

Hear hear smallorange. DH saw the BNP and their thugs up close and personal in the 2001 election and it was not pretty.

PeterAndresSkidmarks · 24/10/2009 15:07

I'm a catholic DP and I think that the views that you have expressed previously on here about homosexuality have been homophobic. I was never taught that homosexuality is wrong and have spent my entire education in Catholic schools/colleges. Please don't link Catholicism with your views.

Morosky · 24/10/2009 15:09

I agree in part smallornage, this normal working class girl would never dream of voting BNP and neither would anyone in my family.

I do however come from a northern working class town and knew very few people there who were not racist in some way and lots of people would vote BNP.

brightongirldownunder · 24/10/2009 15:11

But DP you can say these things because our country is LIBERAL. Its what makes it so amazing.
You have to expect a reaction to your points of view, because they do err on the side of extremism in a liberal country.
What is your opinion on atheists or humanists? We could go on forever....
Best bet is to appreciate that the vast majoriety on MN really want you to see through the smokescreen of the BNP. Take it as a complement that they care enough to keep trying!

Georgimama · 24/10/2009 15:12

You see, these are kinds of comments I don't understand "most religions don't agree with homosexuality".

What don't they "agree" with about it? That it exists? That it should be legal? That it is a morally neutral manifestation of one's preferences? What do you think "don't agree with" means?

Who are these homosexuals you don't like - and what is it about them you "don't like"?

Can you be sure everyone you think is straight really is? There have been widely circulated rumours that Nick Griffin has had homosexual experiences - what do you think of that?

Morosky · 24/10/2009 15:12

As a Catholic PeterAndres I don't agree with DP on homosexuality but you must be viewing the catholic faith through rose tinted glasses if you have never been taught that that the church thinks homosexuality is wrong.
