to be annoyed by a party talking about mending the society they broke?

without any apparent recognition that it was their revered leader (Thatcher for anyone too young to remember) who was a major cause of the breakdown? I know it's an improvement on there is no such thing as society but it still annoys me.

Who's said that all Tories are 'rich, privately educated Trustafarians?' There hasn't been any bashing of voters here. I know plenty of working/middle class Tories, don't agree with them, but doesn't make them bad people. We're talking parties and policies here, not individuals.

MissM · 07/10/2009 11:07

Absolutely dollshouse.

skihorse · 07/10/2009 11:08

haha I don't give a shit if you're offended by the comment I made about GB. It's a fact, it's not a dirty, sodden rumour such as the ones he specialises in... c.f., him alluding to the fact that DC had an STI.

Or when DC's child sadly passed away this summer that GB jumped in with the "my baby died too".

Riven Are you still smarting from the other day?

skihorse · 07/10/2009 11:09

GhostWriter So you couldn't read my post because you read the last 3 words first? How queer!

hullygully · 07/10/2009 11:10

Has he only got one eye?

Why would anyone vote Tory unless they were all for inequality?

MillyMollyMoo · 07/10/2009 11:10

FFS everyone jokes about Gordon keeping his eye on the economy unfortunately it's the one that doesn't work. CNUT is quite accurate though, who sends their wife out to give a speech about his character before addressing a confrence, could you ever imagine Michelle doing that, or Hilary Clinton, what a wally he looked that day.

As for David Cameron, honmestly if a twit with a 2.1 in HIstory is the best we have to run the country we should be ashamed, I say we get out there and run as independants at the next election, seriously MumsRus or something.

hullygully · 07/10/2009 11:11

Oh, just seen the bit about the aristocracy looking after the poor...hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah ahahah. Up the fucking revolution and behead all the Tory cunts.

Skihorse, how do you feel if a poster with a sight disability reads your comment and is offended? Do you not give a shit about that either?

There are lots of valid reasons for despising GB, the fact that he has a disability isn't one of them.

Bucharest · 07/10/2009 11:12

WTF?
Started reading this thread as the issues are important and I find it's already descended into yet another attack-sesh-fest.

I'll go and listen to Gordon's speech instead.

Skihorse- maybe Gordon was saying that about Ivan Cameron to show empathy? That he understood how the Cameron's might be feeling?

skihorse · 07/10/2009 11:12

hully Yes, he has only one eye.

Milly the worst of that imv was him talking to Andrew Marr and then saying "well it was her choice, I didn't make her do it". Ugh, put the knife in your own wife's back eh?

Prunerz · 07/10/2009 11:13

skihorse there was a very dignified and compassionate response from all sides to the death of DC's child.
Anyone would bring up how they identify with such a loss.

I really think you are scraping the barrel here!!
In that GB has done plenty that is debatable: why not get your teeth into that?!

skihorse · 07/10/2009 11:13

thedollshouse It would I suppose depend on whether the person in question was a cunt, a member of the Labour party and a deluded liar. Do we have many of those around here?

GhostWriter · 07/10/2009 11:13

Yes skihorse, when you're scrolling up through posts, you do tend to see the tail end first and when I notice somebody unnecessarily referring to a disability in a personal attack I do form an opinion.

Why isn't it possible to have an interesting and intelligent discussion (whatever side of the political fence you might be on) without someone highjacking it and turning it into something offensive and unpleasant? Was enjoying myself up until then and finding it fascinating. Will join you Bucharest.

Slike war, innit? Why countries just agree to disagree? Why do they have to get their nasty old weapons out and start annexing?

thedollshouse · 07/10/2009 11:16

Oh you really are something else aren't you? If you want to educate yourself go and read up on the Disability Discrimination Act.

I really hope that in real life you are not in a position of authority as people with such bigoted views deeply concern me.

MillyMollyMoo · 07/10/2009 11:18

Or give free fruit shoots and sausage rolls out in shopping centre's with our manifesto

It is hard because we do need change the labour party do seem to think they've taken over the role of God at the moment.
I do believe 3 terms should be the maximum any party should serve.

Personally I think it's the Lib Dems turn, they couldn't do a worse job and if we're delving into history Galdstone and Disrali were good eggs I seem to remember.

Did someone really just call for all the Toris to be beheaded?Lovely.
With people like that voting we are sure to get a soundly judged and reasoned result.

hullygully · 07/10/2009 11:20

It's disgusting. There is no need for it at all. Off with their heads.

WhereYouLeftIt · 07/10/2009 11:31

The global credit crunch could not have happened without the nonexistent 'light touch' regulation favoured by our (and the US's) governments, but it should be remembered (as per the OP) that this could not have happened without the deregulation started by Thatcherism and Reaganomics.

Thatcher is at the root of our current situation. T'was then that the financial markets were de-regulated in the interest of the jungle free market. T'was then that the utilities - water, power, phones - were privatised. T'was then that the cult of personality (hers) overrode government by cabinet, giving us the abomination Blair and our current Brown who, alas, does not have the type of personality to sustain the cult - nor the experience of true cabinet government.

edam · 07/10/2009 12:17

Nothing wrong with public school boys or girls as such - but there is something wrong with a society that thinks they are the only people qualified to run the country.

There's some merit in the idea that governments do run out of steam after two or three terms... but that line just ends up gifting the next election to the Tories, which is hardly democratic.
