without any apparent recognition that it was their revered leader (Thatcher for anyone too young to remember) who was a major cause of the breakdown? I know it's an improvement on there is no such thing as society but it still annoys me.

what the expenses scandals illustrates, st, is that when people see unrestrained greed being allowed and even encouraged they join in. Some of those on benefit when they could work undoubtably look at the excesses of those who should know better and use that as an excuse. Those raised with privilege and a good education should, in my view, also lead in showing responsibility. There are people in all the political parties who should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves and some who should be prosecuted.

The duck island, however, illustrates not just greed but also incompetence since it would be obvious to anyone really interested in wildlife that the duck house was totally unsuitable for purpose. The ducks didn't use it.

I'm afraid that by your posts you have reminded me why I could never be "one of us". Too many of those in the Conservative party are arrogant, greedy and unscrupulous. If they have good manners they disappear quite rapidly if their view of the world is not accepted.

I don't see the parties as having the same aims. David Cameron puts on a good face but his efforts are rapidly undermined if you talk to other people in his party. Mostly they care only for those they see as part of the elite and can't be bothered to hide it.
