To want to broadcast the video of the birth at my dd's christening?

We tried to have a child for a long time and so when I became pregnant I was thrilled. My husband and I did a kind of video diary charting the pregnancy as it went along and obviously he videoed the birth too, which was a wonderful experience that my husband participated in.

We are to hold my daughter's christening in a few weeks and during the ceremony I'd like the video to be screened as a celebration of all we went through and experienced to get to that day.

But my husband's mother heard about our plans and now his family are threatening to boycott the ceremony, calling me a "freak" and saying it would be distasteful. How can a birth be distasteful?

Eew, eew and thrice eew !

'Arty' or not, I would not want to see someone else's birth video, no matter how natural childbirth is.

I say again, eeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwww!

piscesmoon · 05/10/2009 19:04

It just proves you should read-I didn't realise it was a wind up!

artlesschaos · 05/10/2009 19:06

This has got to be a wind up, right? Please OP, say yes!

thebody · 05/10/2009 19:06

please please please dont extend this dotty idea to your childs 18th birthday. Your childs birth is special to you and your DP to everyone else it would be excrutiatingly embaressing and frankly quite disgusting, you must be mad..

an angry fanny on wide screen.. yeuk..

pigletmania · 05/10/2009 19:09

No no no never, the birth video should be private and for just you and your dh and mabey extremely close family. A Christiening is when the baby is welcomed into the Christian community this bears no relevance. Why not have a slide show of pictures of your daughter(not the birth)

Jux · 05/10/2009 19:18

I think you should broadcast the conception video first. If you haven't got one, then I'm sure no one would notice if you did a 'remake'.

cleaningsucks · 05/10/2009 19:19

this is utterly, utterly bonkers.

Katisha · 05/10/2009 19:24

No no no no no

It's NOT what a Christening is for. It is welcoming the child into the church.

It is NOT about your pregnancy and birth, however tasteful.

Katisha · 05/10/2009 19:24

Oh god it's a wind-up.

Longtalljosie · 05/10/2009 19:29

It must be a wind-up.

But in case it isn't...

Do

Not

Do

It

Oh how marvellous Rhubarb! Very flattered to be thought the culprit, but I'm afraid even my fevered imaginings would not have immediately stretched to a Big Ben toilet roll holder

Great giggle- much-needed!

funtimewincies · 05/10/2009 19:43

It may be a wind-up but there must be someone who has already done it, I'm sure!

motheringfrights · 05/10/2009 19:51

If only it weren't a wind up. Think of the thematic opportunity.

You'd have to serve vagina cupcakes, though they're really vulvas.

yum

motheringfrights · 05/10/2009 19:53

Or fondant fanjos, as I prefer to think of them.

funtimewincies · 05/10/2009 19:57

Ahh, if only you'd thought to save the placenta.

'an angry fanny on wide screen' ROFL

IWantCleanCarpets · 05/10/2009 20:06

Please tell me this is a joke!

MissMoopy · 05/10/2009 20:19

Are you crazy? If people wanted to see the birth video they would ask. I am sure it was an amazing experience but do you really think anyone wants to watch it? Please don't do it and forever be remembered as the crazy lady who subjected her family to this!

sparklycheerymummy · 05/10/2009 20:41

I cannot imagine a single friend of mine who would want to see my bits and what happened during my dds birth! Its private and you just look slightly batty all that goo and grunting etc .... were you stitched up and cut???? did you throw up???? did you poo???? did you swear????? or was it all clean and nice. This has made me chuckle thanks!!!

sparklycheerymummy · 05/10/2009 20:46

AM I BEING THICK THEN........... WAS THIS REALLY A WIND UP ???

Kaylo · 05/10/2009 20:48

How about just showing a few bits from the pregnancy showing your building excitement and maybe a bit where you're in labour/travelling to hospital, then flip to a shot of your beautiful dd - like the build up to end result, kinda. That might catch peoples interest a little better.

I think to show the actual birth is a bit too personal an event to show to everyone - I wouldn't like to be a guest at a Christening where the birth of that child was being shown.

Plus - the people who attend may then remind your dd when she is older "Oh you won't remember this but at your Christening your mum and dad showed everyone the video of when you were born"

xx
