Okay I'll start

I'm not a perfect mother because

I lose my temper
I let them watch x factor and the cube on a Saturday night, and don't even read them a bedtime story after
I've taken them out of school for holidays

i think people post stuff on here, hear the disapproval and then start theads like this - its exactly what welliemum says - reverse snobbery.
there was a thread on here last night, (i cant find it now,) from a poster who had totally lost it with her child, she had a totally OTT reaction to something and there were (negative) responses on it, from people who said it was OTT, and then THOSE posters got responses from other posters along the lines of "it must be nice to be perfect" etc etc

i think thats why threads like this get started. its folks who read that and go "well if your so perfect...blah blah blah" because it shows people their own shortcomings. its not a 'solidarity' thread imo, i thought it was started to massage peoples egos, but i could be wrong of course.

if i do something wrong i appreciate people saying it, not just rubbing my bruised ego and saying 'there there' or ' i can go one better than that!'

i may be totally wrong but i felt this thread was started in response to the disapproving tone on another thread.

am i making the slightest bit of sense?

we all make mistakes - but id hope if i called my kids names or did something unreasonable that people would be able to say it, thats not perfection - its honesty.

pingapengin · 13/09/2009 22:44

There are plenty of things in RL i condone and if i saw a mum giving her kid a good beating with a strap at tescos, i would be the first to start a thread to judge and condone her.

But this is a "im an imperfect parent thread" and every nutter on the internet can post so i guess i expect some not so acceptable posts.

Please dont think i defend some behaviours on here, because i dont.

I often take the DC's for cake when I'm too tired or uninspired to be creative in the home or go to the park.

I say ooh marvellous when DD shows me her 19th scribble drawing but don't tell her I actually can't see it when she's holding it up to face herself.

I lie sometimes tha the shops being shut rather than get into one with her about why she can't have the particular thing she wants right then at that very moment.

I have also told her that we don't have a burglar alarm because DH is so big and strong and scary that all burglars are too afraid to come to our house. This is, quite patently, a lie

But, swearing is only done in my head.
I often count to ten before I open my mouth. I sometimes just walk upstairs and pretend to go to the loo instead of dealing badly with the latest DC/DD squabble.
When it's really tough I have been known to insist, at some volume, that "I am a person too you know, not just a mummy!!!!"
In case you are wondering, it is too existential a concept for a 2 and 4 year old to understand.

I like being marvellous with little hats. It is much better than being marvellous in italics

On my way now (this could be a late one!)

Sycamoretreeisvile · 13/09/2009 23:19

Shiney - you can't ask her to do that at this time of night - poor women will be up until her DC's wake up

MermaidSpam · 13/09/2009 23:21

Shiney - didn't realise that was you! Ha ha! Loved that thread, did you ever hear from him again?

(Sorry for hijack OP!)

emkana · 13/09/2009 23:27

Yes I was on that thread, but it wasn't an aibu one, which was one of the reasons why I thought some of the responses were totally uncalled for.

But yes this thread was meant as a lighthearted one, which went totally wrong... When talking about being imperfect I didn't have swearing at your children or not taking them to school due to being hungover in mind... there have been threads like this in the distant past and they were funny. I try not to say this on here but boy MN has changed [sigh], which I see on this thread but also on the one that inspired me to start this one.

If I wasn't so used to this place I would really feel very very VERY inclined to leave.
