DS1 started secondary yesterday. He wants me to let him come home alone tomorrow.....I am scared shitless (putting it bluntly) he has only ever travelled alone once before!

Mornings are sorted....one of the teachers travels on the same bus and she has said she will watch out for him in the mornings.

I want him to stay my babyyyyyyyyyyy

DD has left for the bus, wearing so much black polyester I suspect she'll slide off the seat. Hope it's gone well, Evenstar.

I am back from bus stop and am panicking, I put him on the bus minus teacher as she was late lol. made him sit at front gave him clear instructions on where to get off and to call me when he gets to school gates. Have told him where to cross on way home and to call me to let me know what bus he is on.

Pyro...lets not go there!!! This has made me think about when ds2 needs to go to school. I was considering nursery 1 day a week but don't think I could even cope with it lol.

well done LE.

I let DS get the school transport bus this morning too.
He was all excited and skipped off merrily whilst i stood there, heart pounding with nerves desperatly trying not to let my eye's sweat.

Im rewarding myself with tea and biscuits now. lord knows how im going to cope this afternoon waiting for him to arrive home.

Mamazon thats my worry now lol. I managed the morning but this afternoon? when all the schools are out and he is so little among a crowd of big kids...plus i don't live in a very nice area. And some little shit kid has already stolen his p.e shorts yesterday from his bag.

yeah we live in a horrible area (just see my other thread) Im worried that the transport people will forget him as he's new.
they might not put him on the bus and i'll be here waiting for the bus and when it arrives and he's not on it.
god i need to stop or i'll end up driving to the school to check he's ok.

It seems I am very late to the party here! TLES - I'm glad that he is safely at school - for my money, letting them go to school on their own is scarier than letting them come home on their own - with the latter, you know they've arrived, with the former, you have to take it on trust unless they phone you like Ds1 did.

Is there going to be hand-holding this afternoon as you wait for them to get home? I'll come along and provide tea and buns, if you like. Or perhaps gin and valium - lol!

TheLadyEvenstar · 09/09/2009 09:42

Yes lots of hand holding will be needed!! I do live in a really bad area and that makes me worry more!

Vodka and Valium please hunni!!!

Hi LES (and everyone else). Well done.

I'm four days (+ 5 days, if we count the school holidays trial run!) into this and almost feel like an old hand!

I know it sounds very 50s housewife but ... I coped with the first couple of unsupervised school journeys by cooking something complicated for dinner. (I can almost feel other mothers on here arching their eyebrows!)

Somehow, it made me feel like I was doing "looking after", whilst at the same time, it made me focus on something different. And it had to coincide with the arrival home (ds gets in a bit before 5).

Anyway, thinking of you all.

Are we needing valium and gin yet?

Well - I am poised to offer support. In fact I should be taking the dog for a walk, but am going to make one of the boys do it instead, so that I can be here to wait with you for the return of the intrepid offspring.

We could link hands and sing Kumbayah whilst we wait - but I'd look a bit silly doing that on my own!

I am in more need of valium than ever I am really panicking as his phone is off.

You'll be fine, hun. This was me this time last year. I couldn't even think about my son going to and from school on his own without getting palpitations. We had a system whereby he would text when he was on the bus in the mornings and the afternoon. That lasted about 3 months because it wasn't cool! I look back now and smile at how far we have both come.

Would he not have to switch it off in school? He has probably forgotten to switch it on again.

Have some chocolate until Shabster gets here with the Gin.

He's had to switch it off in school and has forgotten to turn it on again, TLES - LuvLee is spot on. He'll mooch in through the door and won't have the first idea why you were so worried.
