No, that's not what I said at all.
It was suggested that Joe Public is not able to sue newspapers - I'm saying that they can and do.

Except you can't complain through the PCC if you're also suing.

And I use the phrase 'That was a bit naughty' as an example of the ultimate sanction threatened by the PCC. Technically, 'That was a bit naughty, would you mind printing a tiny correction at the bottom of page 96?'

Thesecondcoming, you also can't complain to the PCC as a 'third party'; the article has to be about you personally. So yes, the DM/Express can twist and distort their immigration/working mothers story as much as they like, because there's no named individual to complain or sue for libel.

Why I don't like the DM

It's right-wing, racist, anti-women. Its demographic is the uneducated, bigoted, middle-aged+ market. I am only one of those things therefore it just doesn't suit me.

Nancy66 · 12/09/2009 10:55

Heather - that is inaccurate. You just can't do both at the same time.

curiositykilled · 12/09/2009 17:28

Telling lies is different to exaggerating, spinning, embellishing, editing e.t.c.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 13/09/2009 18:19

And given that the PCC won't accept complaints made more than 2 months after publication... what are the odds of your libel case being done and dusted in two months?

You're trying to make out that journos quake in their boots at the thought of the fearsome PCC. Not only do I not believe that, I don't even believe that you believe it!

The libel comes afterwards
