to truly believe that there are too many people making living on benefits a lifestyle choice?

While I really do feel for people, who through no fault of their own, find themselves on benefits, struggling to bring up their children on a pittance, am I the only one who truly believes that for a large number of people, living on benefits is a lifestyle choice??

It may just be the people I know, but I have one friend who refuses to work - no children or partner, another friend who from leaving school decided she was going to have children, has had 2 children by unknown fathers so far, and all at the tax payers expense and is now planning her 3rd, to some unsuspecting man she hopes to meet on a night out, and another friend who is due her 4th baby anyday, by a man who pays her no child support whatsoever, even though he is a high earner working full time and who lives in the next town with his mum and dad. She believes he will move in one day, i think not and when he does stay with her, she makes it public knowledge that she is continuing to claim she is an unemployed single parent to continue getting all the benefits, even when he has stayed for months and all those mentioned have the opinion that they are entitled to live off of benefits for as long as they live.

They just feel so entitled it's untrue!!!!

I am beginning to believe that people who do not pay tax should not be entitled to vote, since why should these people who do not contribute a penny to the system, and possibly may never contribute a penny to the system, be able to have a say as to how the money the country generates is spent????

I also am of the belief that anybody who does not have dependents, is not elderly, sick or disabled should not receive any benefit unless it is contribution based benefit.

Am I really BU??

Am I the only one who gets so angry at these lazy people, who live off of their children for as long as they can, and in some cases, are swayed to have children because they do not want to work??

Prisoners already have their vote removed beast

"stop the rot". Oh FGS here we go again.

beast, what about people with mental illnesses? What about people who simply can't cope with the pressures of everyday life?

Not everyone is cut out to cope with the capitalist model within which we currently live.

You have to take care of those people.
As Gandhi said - you can judge a society on the way it treats its poorest members.

And that's not just poorest in terms of monetary value.

It's not that simple. Women raising children are contributing to society for a start. I wouldn't have done voluntary work with a baby and toddler, no. And criminals may well have contributed to society at any point in their lives, even work in prison is contributing to prison society.
Good quote from Gandhi there Dollius. We should remember that prejudice causes resentment, when I was stuck in a crappy hostel with little ones and not a pot to piss in I didn't give a toss about society, I was that stressed and angry.

It bugs me tho when there are some benefit claimants who take all they can an clearly do not need it.

Eg: Fall pregnant, claim council house as on own and no support, rent/council tax and cash for food all given to her....reality was/is, boyfriend very much part of her life, living with her full time, high earner in IT, went on to have further 2 kids that go to private school because she "didn't want the kids mixing with them from council estates .

Eg: yet again have kids, council house etc, claim everthing they can because they cant work, but, earn extra money cash in hand on a daily basis by doing fly work. Takeaway meals 3 or 4 times a week at £20 a pop.

These are genuine cases I know of personally and there are many more like that I could tell you about.

I come from the same background as these people I am on about, I have worked since I left school, only claimed benefits for a breif period when due to illness I was unable to work (5months)

A VERY high percentage of my former class mates are in the benefits system and too many have also seen the inside of prison walls.

There are many people who do need help and I really feel for them, living in crap accommodation not knowing where the next meal is coming from especially if you have LOs must be so hard. The system is so wrong to allow cheats to get away with it. If they sorted it out there would ideally be more in the pot to help those in true hardship so that their children do not go without.
