to expect people not to smoke cannabis around children?

I went to a bbq yesterday with some new friends and although I sort of knew that they all smoked a bit, I was surprised they did it quite openly.

My kids were totally oblivious to it and none of the others noticed either. Is this normal? Am I just a complete prude and out of touch?

a bit out of touch possibly, but i wouldn't want anyone smoking it around my dc.

In some circles it is completely normal.
What kids grow up with is normal to them.

tbh my Uncle and Father both smoked openly..I didn't think it was bad just knew it was for adults..just like cigarettes

YANBU, I would be surprised by this too. I have a friend who is a dope fiend and even she doesn't smoke in front of her DC.

I am going to sound like Mary Whitehouse here, but we were invited to a BBQ with some of DHs work mates (none of whom I had met before) and I was that they were openly smoking joints around children. I quietly left with DS (who was 2 at the time) without making a fuss. Lots of people there, so no one noticed that we had gone.

I worked in the music industry from a young age so I am not naive about drugs at all, I once worked with a boss who smoked joints back to back like cigerettes, so I have seen what it does to people.

I wouldn't be openly judgey about anyone who did drugs, I don't care what other people do, but I don't want my child exposed to drugs.

i think i was surprised more than anything. I smoke and i try not to do that in front of the kids, i can't imagine i'd ever have a joint in front of them.

Agree with thesecondcoming, I would be fine with people smoking outdoors at a bbq with dd there, it would go over her head completely.
Building a spliff in front of her would piss me off though, as she would likely want to know what it was, or worse, imagine it was some kind of arts and crafts activity and try to join in.

I had friends who smoked cannabis all the time in front of their kids. Too stoned to be good parents.
And if you got stoned/drunk at a BBQ, how do you get your kids home safely?
